    I type a lot on mine and have no problems with it at all. I don't see why hitting it while typing would hurt. Either you're typing way too hard and/or have an extremely low pain threshold. I don't know why women like long nails, especially the freakish ones that stick out more than 3/8". Those IBMers should have wised up and cut their nails back to a sane length.

    most firearm owners don't have machine guns either. If you want to make the effort to get a class III license from the BATF and follow their rules, you can own one though. But I doubt anyone seriously uses an assault rifle for hunting. A semi-auto look-a-like, sure...but a real selective fire assault rifle?

    In order to do that they have to pass temporary spending measures to keep programs at fy08 levels until the real budget can be passed. For the supporters of many programs that's the same as a cut. IMHO, a spending freeze would be helpful.

    lol! forking over $$$ for child support & working most of the time will eliminate most of that urge and being a fat, ugly geek will insure what remains will never be utilized. 7-14 months is nothing. Try 5-7+ years at a time as an adult.

    What turned me off from going into a career as a research scientist was that the scientists I knew spent about half their time begging for money from various agencies, foundations, etc. Maybe that's what he was referring to with "money grubbing".

    That's what I originally liked about galeon. I haven't tried either versions after one of the galeon developers left and started epiphany.

    Not to mention that the 1953 intervention into Iranian politics by the CIA was done at the request of the UK. Nationalization of Iranian oil would have meant a great loss of revenue for the company that eventually became BP. Throw in the Cold War "soft on Communism" tag and Ike was happy to put an ally back in power.

    no, oil is better for us if we drill it and use it to make useful things like plastics. IIRC, the last Shah of Iran thought that burning oil for fuel was one of the dumbest things to do with it.

    Sensible liberals just think that trying to blow them all to smithereens, or countering fundamentalist Islam with fundamentalist Christianity, is the wrong way to address the problem.
    What is the right way to address the problem? The only other response the West has given to these nutjobs is to pander to them.

    I'm just glad that I stay at that lonely place for perhaps 2 to 3 weeks a year during the holidays.
    It's a part of their master plan to keep the kids from moving back home. I bet they love it.

    Nearly all my friends are hundreds of miles away and the people I've met via dating services aren't in the metro area that I'm in. I guess that's ok. I hate cities and would like to move out to the sticks when I'm able.

    Actually, I watched Jobs' Macworld introduction of it before I posted the above reply trying to see if apple had specifically mentioned a target market for this thing and other than the envelope thing, I didn't see anything about business travelers. Anyway, it doesn't really matter what a bunch of people on slashdot think, otherwise the ipod would have been a dud. Once they are available, if people like them, they'll buy 'em. I usually buy old stuff off ebay, so it will be a few years before I would ever actually get one. I do see the similarity between this and the Powerbook Duo laptops of the early 90s. They only had hard drives too and the user could get a dock they could slide the laptop into for desktop use. They were more expensive though. Now if they could come out with a version of TimeCapsule with an integrated DVD burner, that would be even better. It was surprising though how big the battery is in comparison to the rest of the guts of the machine.

    That's assuming that the target market is the "road warrior" type and not the "I'll just add it to my student loan" college kid. Or did everyone assume that it was aimed at business because of the inter-office memo envelope ad?

    or maybe they didn't want an ugly looking battery hatch with a few screws on the bottom of the machine in addition to the screw that removes the rest of it. I suppose it also gives them some flexibility to be able to move things around internally for minor revision changes too.
