But the expected daily rate of production from those fields would be the equivalent of what we import from Venezuela, so it wouldn't be insignificant. Personally, I'm surprised we don't do more oil extraction from tar sands like Canada does. Apparently we have a trillion or so barrels of crude locked up in tar sands under Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.
ADM might not like it, but the farmers that grow it wouldn't care. They usually rotate crops anyway and in many cases have been paid by the Feds to take crop land out of production and replant it with grass. If they can make money growing switchgrass, they will do it. It can be grown in more areas that corn too - in many cases it's the type of plant that was tilled up 100-150 years ago to make room for corn & wheat production.
I know a few people that heat their houses with a form of pellet furnaces that use corn. In many cases, they end up using the same basement chutes that 100 years ago were used for coal.
Hey, if he kept vetoing budget legislation that contains spending that doesn't relate to a specific power in the constitution, then we'd have a shutdown of all the 'non-essential' parts of the Federal Govt for a while. Depending on how long it lasted, most of the Federal workers would love it. The last time it happened, it was like a unscheduled vacation.
according to this ultra-low sulfur diesel has been available in the US for a while. Just about any article on Slashdot that refers to diesels, there will be a few posts about people complaining that it's hard to find stations with diesel and a few other misconceptions that been around due to GM's noisy diesel automobiles from the 70s. If the manufacturers view that the market has a dim view of diesel automobiles, they're not going to try to sell them in that market. Personally, I'd love to have a late model diesel VW, but I can't afford one at the moment.:(
I don't think it's been officially available for sale in the US until this year. They've been available for sale in Canada since 2004, but those can't be imported into the US. I've seen some for sale in the US on ebay, but I'm not sure how they were imported or if they can be legally registered in the US.
Yes. IBM started producing a different keyboard not long after the original release due to all the complaints. The original idea was that programs would ship templates that would fit on top of the keyboard that would show the commands performed by various key sequences. The "Happy Hacker" keyboard reminds me a lot of the improved PCjr keyboard
I liked my PCjr a lot. It was a real little workhorse for me in college. Thanks to PC Enterprises, mine had a 3.5" floppy, SCSI hard drive (80M I think), NEC V20 processor, 768K RAM, and a bunch of other add ons. I was still using it when it met its untimely demise in 1994.:(
If the Sugar interface is written in python, would there be a reason that it can't run on Windows? As far as I know, the "show source" button only displayed the source of the python script being run, not the underlying OS.
I guess you don't know anyone that records concerts and then distributes the audio & video with the musician's permission. BT is great for that - much better than trying to get on some overloaded FTP site or mailing blank media to someone.
Sorry. Your muggers, thieves, and members of various criminal gangs in Australia often do have large caliber semi-autos. If they aren't available, a knife, machette, or cricket bat more than likely is. The more I talk to older Australians, the more I feel for their disgust in how their country has become nothing but a bunch of pussies who demand that the govt take care of them.
Apple TV would have sold better if it had the ability to download content directly from iTMS instead of having to have another computer do that step first.
[blockquote]The way the welfare system is set up in the US, it's designed to keep people dependent.[/blockquote]ding! ding! ding! We have a winner! It's all about keeping people dependent on govt programs and the politicians that support those programs a locked in voting block.
Speaking of which, how useful is the OLPC to a child in an environment where there aren't any other similar machines? I was thinking about getting one to give to a friend's 5yr old child and was wondering how useful it would be. It would be that they would have the only one in the area, so the wireless mesh networking & chat wouldn't be used. They have a wireless network in the apartment, so they could use it to play games and browse some websites. But what else? Are there websites providing educational content just for these machines?
Burning coal also releases a lot of uranium into the environment, much more that what is used by the nuclear power industry. I'm not sure how they came up with the comparison that you cited, but denying people the proper amount of oxygen is what kills them. Plants, on the other hand, would like the CO2.
That's assuming that you don't get any more records. Going to stores or estate sales that have lots of old LPs, 45s, & 78s to scrounge around for stuff that will never be released on CD can be an interesting hobby.
On the other hand, pessimists are pessimists because they have a tendency to be anxious. They immediately foresee the risks of each situation (due to their personality, not a conscious decision) and therefore they map out alternatives to each bad outcome until they've relieved their stress by feeling confident that, no matter what happens, they have a plan for every eventuality. When things still go wrong, pessimists tend to ask themselves what they could have done differently to avoid the bad outcome (internalizing it).
So that's why I don't have a girlfriend and will probably never get laid in the future. I'm thinking about all the different things I could say to the woman to get her interested in me and her responses to them. By the time I make my move, she's gone (probably giving some optimist the time of his life). I need a captive audience that will stick around until I'm finished going through all the scenarios.

Let me know when someone has modded a Nano to use a turbo charged motor from a Civic. That ought to be interesting at the dragstrip.

maybe the machines rejected the Ron Paul votes because the voters didn't fill in the circles correctly?

The version that will be able to dual boot will more than likely have more RAM and a faster processor than the current production models.

What form factor do the current hard drive based iPods use? 1.8"? I can see Apple wanting a smaller version of this for their next gen devices.

no, you've probably just become accustomed to their insanity.
the only stable women are dead ones.
dumstruck due to spiraling thoughts. Yep. That's a good description of it.

Is the turntable since it would help in the process of converting old records into FLACs.
