    who has a 64 bit pci slot in a home pc, much less a hard drive that's a/v quality
    the quality looks better then divx but if most people cant even use the encoder I do not see it lasting long

    Poor standard indeed. I've YET to go in to a grocery store and mistakenly give the cashier a 50. I tend to look at the numbers printed all over the face or back of a bill before I let go of it.

    I used to work for target not to long ago and every time I was on the register at least two times an hour someone would hand me 20 instead of a 5 , or even a 100 instead of a one. It happens and it was not just morons ether , 9 out of 10 it was a yuppie who was not paying attention

    Before everyone jumps for joy over a window-less pc from wal-mart think about this who would buy a pc from wal-mart, I realy dought that anyone who buys PCs from wal-mart is going to install linux, I would immagin that wal-mart hopes that people who buy these PCs will most likly be surprised when they try to boot up and see an error messege insted of a WindowsXP welcome screen, and I would think there first response would be for them to call tech support and hear that they need to purchase " Windows XP Home ed." from there local wal-mart for 200$. Nothing like saving 50$ on a computer to be charged 200$ on an OS

    a 56k modem not using any compression can get up to 7kB/s how did I get this figure? 56k modems get 56kilobits you have to divide by 8 to get kilobytes of course this doesn't include things like line max speed or quality, or things like compression .From my exp. 5kB/s is about the average speed you can get downloading compressed files

    .net isn't going to use Java cause of MS loosing that lawsuit to sun a wile back, if I remember correctly, MS could use Java in existing products and support it up to 6 years but no more new products.

    AM I the only one who tired of people calling porn , pr0n. when I see pron, I think of seafood ,as in the little shrimp-like things. I think most people here are old enofe that they don't have to worry about that copy of "net nanny" their mom stuck on the family pc. and if your not old enofe you shood be able to figure out how to get around it by now.

    the ricochet modems they sell here in san diego act like standerd hayes compat. serial modems ether thrue a real serial cable or over USB , both methods work in linux, I can connect at 240k with the usb cable and 80k with the serial, to bad usb is a bitch to setup in linux(with this modem anyway) I gave up on setting up a usb connection and just set up a small home network useing windows as a server. People have claimed to have set it up over usb in the linux I just dont know that much about linux usb to do anything with it

    in my area, useing nearly any isp I get ping from 600 to infinity, with earthlink I can get 300 for 10min and unable to connect for 10min, ive lived in areas ware I could get 150 from a 33.6 modem I was also able to run 4 download streems, play an online radio and be in a chat room without any lag, (this was 3 years ago in another town) not bad for a 33.6 modem, now im lucky to get one download to compleate without stalling much less do anything else on a 56k modem@44k even on my connection I can still play q3 most of the time(assuming im not at 999ping and everyone else is also on dial-up)what Ive found interesting is when I play phantasy star online for the dreamcast even when im way laged I can still keep on playing and an almost seemless resync when im no longer laged. still cant wait till I move to San Diego and can get on cable modem, not just good for games ether, be nice to be able to download the latest ver of the linux kernal/kde/xfree without spending a few days connected or waiting for the next distrabution. sigh, I remember downloading linux slackware for the first time 3 years ago in just 4 hours on a 33.6 modem , full working distrabution gcc, xwindows everything, now I cant get less then 250megs not without loosing too many things

    I think chances are this thing will let you just copy mp3s(wavs or whatever) to just like mp3 players so the thing is what if you just dont set the copy protection bit, if the thing is truly a cd-r no ones going to buy it if they have to use thier software that will only let you d/l from a perticular site in some unknown format. If thier just a replacemnt for music cds (i.e. purchase in stores) whats the point of cdr. im sure its one of thoes things like windows media ware you can have copy protected/unprotected in the same format and the player realy doesnt care ware it came from. what im saying is chances are you'll be able to copy all your curent mp3s that are not copy protected to it and it will work just as well as any that you download that are protected, I could be compleatly wrong and the thing will only work with its format, if so its doomed for failure

    come on now, woohoo 32megs, thats what NS6, most 1.44 meg floppies cant even hold 1.44 megs for more then a few years. Id hate to see how well they do with 32megs. I used to have a zip drive and found 100megs just not enofe for a good backup. and with the cost of cdrw drives, seen them under 100$ now and cdrw disks for under 1$ and you can boot off them too if you wish. the only downside being you cant just copy to them like a floppy *yet* without useing some propritary software/filesystem.

    It is pritty cool that it can be done, but as far as usefullness, no 32megs isnt enofe to warent the cost of the drive. I only keep a floppy drive in my system to boot into beos to reinstall the bootmanager whenever I have to reinstall win9x

    ISA is not supperior to PCI it cost more couse they have to add functions to the MB to handle it , as far as uses for ISA, as it stands now ISA true modems are curently the best modems avilable, not only are they 99% of the time true modems (i.e. NOT winmodems) you can use them in ANY OS that supports a com port , includeing dos,win,linux,beos,os2 ect. they are also cheap. the modem im useing now cost me 20$ 2 years ago and outperformed expensive pci true modems that I have tried.

    I wasnt trying to ether I was messing around with real player and it started IE , IE popped up and started loading microsoft.com, all the buttons were messed up but the page loaded corectly , was able to click on links but couldnt enter urls by hand, wish I took a screen shot
