    it costs 25c an hour to use the phone, it doesn't matter if you online or talking to a friend across town. free internet saves them the 20$ or whatever it costs there

    its called common tongue dumbass just as dumbass is a word as in aint and y'all depending on ware you live common tongue changes for example y'all is a word in Texas but not in new York. another example is for computer types , words like CPU,MB,UNIX,RAM are commonly used, ware as computer illiterates will rarely say such things

    Its totaly posible to write a virus/trojan that can modify gcc so that no matter what you compile has a trojan atached that monitors keyboard input and broadcasts possible usernames and passwords back to a server, of corse you would need permession to write to gcc but it could still be done, by the time you notice you system broadcasting it could be to late, if your super parinoid security type person it wont happen to you but most people are not , hell most people run win9x or xp in single user mode

    It's disappointing to see that a computer security paper written 30 years ago is still relevant today.

    well computers havnt changed much in 30 years, least on the hardware lvl anyway sure theres faster have more ram and hd, but on the most basic level they still run the same, they require software to be compiled with the need bootstraping code to get the program running, software tech has grown leaps and bounds, but how the software talks to the hardware hasnt changed much

    I know I could probably look this up myself , but im lazy ;)
    can the zaurus be mounted (i.e. can browse the files like a hd) under both windows and linux. one of the things I like most about my pocketpc is that I can easly browse , remove and add files from my windows desktop, I realy dont sync that oftin. in fact I can live without syncing at all, I would realy like to access my pda from linux in such a way( like thats ever going to happen) if it can I'll buy a zaurus next time

    I wish I had your luck with 3d and linux, I get all sorts of strange lock ups and reboots and every once in a while every 3d game I run is so choppy it unplayable I even tried killing X and everything that wont kill the system and it will still do it takes a reboot to fix it, its not a bad card ether works perfict in windows, Its a geforce4 ti 4200, useing the driver that my distro supplies (suse8.0 supposeably its an offical nvidia driver) I dont know maybe i'll figure it out someday

    just couse its running doesnt meen its running well, it could have all sorta of problems, mostly with sound and input I would think(ie moving from directsound&input) also could be crashing like mad, who knows, least they are working on it as we speak insted of waiting untill release

    unless ether one of 2 things happen

    1: I buy a car cd player that supports it, not going to happen (soon at least), for one nothing supports ogg and 2 I just spent 300$ on a rockford fosgate cd/mp3 player .

    2: software mp3 players and rippers start charging as it stands for now it costs me "nothing" to use mp3, ya I know it costs poor aol a few 100k a year to keep winamp running, but if they want to spend the money so I can have a free mp3 player its there problem.

    I know the problems with mp3 as in for small/oss developers cant make mp3 players ( and still be leagal) but I, and most people just dont care at this moment
    sorry for the bad spalling errors but its 8 am and dont feal like running a spell cheaker ;)

    actualy it is not clear they did anything with a delorean besides take a few pics none of the pics show the batteries or motors (inside the car not in a box) they are making lots of claims they cant back up with numbers or even the slightest hint on how a car running on batteries can go over 100 for long periods of time and still have a full charge. theres no stats , like it can go so many miles on a charge or whatever, there claiming an electric car that runs forever on one charge, the idea is just silly unless the thing has a cold fusion reactor on it

    how exactly is it going to save millions of dollars, I could understand saving a few thousand if they were new servers, but replacing windows 2000(which I assume is paid for) with linux seems more like a way to spend money on support problems

    The atari 2600 had lots of bugs like this, when you fliped the power switch over and over lots of games messed up, I remember dig dug would have the screen messed up with him being able to walk thrue walls.
    out of the 12 games I had about 8 would do something funky

    its the cost thats the problem not the standard , a genaric dvd burner runs around 264$(pricewatch)(400$ at my local comp usa) a lot more then most people are willing to spend when they rarely use more then a normal cdr. Its cheaper to buy a hard drive

    It's not so much that it has DRM as it supports DRM as in if you have any WMA files that are protected you can play them on this player. If it required DRM it would suck, but it doesnt as in the main format is MP3

    well MS is still mac friendly I wouldn't be surprised if ms only lets companies release full opengl drivers for windows or mac leaving linux and others to use mesa3d

    if you run nt like you run linux , as in not as "root" you'll have the same efect as getting a linux virus ,as in you'll only loose stuff in you "home" dir and the user part of the registry, The down side is that many old w95 apps that try to write to the windows dir will more then likly crap out as will many old games

    could someone explain how a serial device could be faster then parallel , I always assumed that serial would be significantly slower do to only having one channel ware as parallel can have at least 8 (or 16,32,64 whatever)

    if you goto the site with the trailer and select full screen you end up with a small window about 4"x5" with black space surounding it this is at
    1280x1024 on a 19" screen

    your right, I wasnt trying to say that opengl does not have its place, if a developer wants to make a visually stunning game such as doom3 or quake3 or whatever directx just wont do, however simpler games such as froger or games ware you want the largest share possible with minimal tech support problems such as everquest directx is a better choice

    as fun as it is to mock all things microsoft but directx has some very big advantages over opengl, most notably is the fact it works well with nearly every 3d card on the market from crappy SiS and trident to powerful nvidia and ati, dont forget that most pcs sold today come with some pretty crappy built in video cards that simply wont do opengl the only major disadvantage is its not portable to linux&mac but when you look at the numbers your more likely getting more pc customers by using directx then linux and mac users under opengl

    I'm sorry but quicktime sucks, not because you cant play movies under linux ether, *.mov files are almost twice the size of other popular formats such as mpg 1&2 and as much as 3 times the size of windows media the only real advantage of them is they look better compared to same res and bitrate of other formats
