There are three big problems I've noticed two stated by the original poster:

    1. Fragmentation. Do you release a tar.gz? Do you release an RPM? Do you Release a .deb?

And how do you support them all? What really should happen is one of two things. 1 Package manager for all distros.(Not going to happen any time soon). The other is a 2nd compatable package management system which is compatible/an add-on to the existing Package Management systems. This way as a corparate developer I can just make and maintain one package instead of three. List the library requirements and if your distro can't go up to the proper version you can try to force it (like if your distro back ports a feature/fix).

Store with each vote on the machine an encyrpted file with the photo and and an another encyrpted file which holds the voters name inside the first file.

So what you can do is unencrypt the photo and run it through a program looking for similarities such as the curtian is there, flagging all the ones that seem to similart (possible same photo), and also flagging the ones which seem to different(not a real photo). The encryption keys should be kept secert and a court order should release each seperately. This way the There is an electronic receict which is difficult to forge, trackable, and verifible numbers wise aslong as a paper copy of who went to voted is kept.

The point of them installing the service packs is not be vunerable to virus or worms. The problem is there are thousands of machines and most of them suck because the user can't maintain the machine.

With Linux all they have to do is follow normal procedures and are allowed on the network relatively quickly. same with macinstosh. And if any people are found with virus traffic they are shut off, informed, and offered an appointment with one of the staff to help clean the machine. So any computer inclinded person could figure out how to run knoppix if they REALLY didn't want to install sp1.

One word. DUH. If you even install sP1 on a spyware infested computer it can render it unbootable. I've run into atleast 10 machines this week that have had this same problem. I work at a university which is forcing students to install service pack 1. there are a lot of machines that can't even take the service pack because of the spyware the installs just hang or destroy the install on the computer. I feel bad for the students because they have to either format or pay to get thier comptuer fixed. It not thier fault or the universities fault. who would have thought forcing college students to update thier microsoft patches would be a bad idea.

Either hack the network. or hire a college spy who will get expelled because he'll be making money off his connection in the dorm. so private ips are the easiest way to save the universities and the net ops.
