I agree that doom3 was a nice non frag a second change for ID, but Deus Ex (the first one) was far better game play and story line. Nice plot, story line, 3 different endings, you don't have to kill things. The method you use and the direction you go is up to you. So I wouldn't give id the credit for giving FPS an actual storyline, as there is already a very old game who did it better. id makes great engines. I've never been a fan of their art, as it all seams bland and the same.
And actually, now that I think about it, there are a lot of games that go v1 and are great, but when they go v2, they go way overboard on graphics and ugly UI that you can't navigate through. Often adding so much junk, where the original concept of the game that made it so wonderful is lost.
I really wish I knew how to program, or could find a good game that I can easily modify with out knowing to much of programing.

I'm still looking for a good multi player mod for NWN on PC.
Sure single great, but utterly sucks for multi (not enoug things to kill, plot breaks all over, no random monsters, not enough XP)
I wouldn't mind downloading the files with TV adds in them, other than it would double the size of the file I would download. But if it is free, and decent enough quality, I would accept it as a real leagle alt, and would pursue this over downloading ones w/o the comercials.
I like that, and I see a beautiful logic and wonderfull irony in this.
Would be nice to implament some kind of tiered login/password aproach to p2p for this. Where you and a group of friends set up a password for your group of p2p, then you log in with another source you trust enough, and like wise.
I mean, sure, they don't distribute all the work they do, but what they do is a trade secret, and not copywrited.
I think they need to strengthen the GPL more before adding more to it. I mean cisco and lots of other vendors sells products running GPL software (like linux) and there is no way to get the source code.
Anything that makes outsourcing mid-high end jobs to 3rd world countries a bad idea is good in my book.
I don't mind people coming here to get jobs, but competing with people who can live on 1 dollar a day for what was above average job is impossible to compete with here.
I hope a lot of noise is made about this, and things start coming back here, and things like tech support is no longer a high school job. And the level of the support given would be greater.
I don't seem to understand something about the legality of file sharing, and how *riaa is sueing those who share.
If I own a CD, wouldn't I be able to download the mp3's leagly? It wouldn't be much different than using a ripper to do it. So what is so illegle about that?
And they are sueing people who share the stuff, never have I seen anything for someone who is downloading. So what is wrong with sharing? It is part of the legle system to get MP3's for your CDs. There is just no way to tell who is leagle and ileagle on our ends.
I would love to share every CD/movie I have ever puchased, and somehow stick it to *iaa when they take me to court if I could.
Why can't there be something like this: Lawyer: You commited copyright infringement, you owe us 10k for 500$ worth of music. Me: I didn't commit copyright infringement, I paid for all my music. Lawyer: Well you owe us 20k for allowing others to pirate our music Me: What are you talking about, this is how the system works, and as far as I know, everone who has downloaded from me owns the music as well. Judge: Go away riaa, no case here.
" 2006 -- there's a network security problem in HL2. Since we're shipping HL3 now, we don't support HL2 anymore and can't update it, so we'll just have to remotely disable HL2 universally. If you want to continue playing HL, please consider purchasing an "upgrade" to HL3."
But you know what, that is exactly the kind of person linux needs to make happy next. Well not happy, but be able to work for them.
Any buy unifying a lot of linux stuff. (a single installer/package working on all(most) distros would do a long way of completing this.
Or having a unified kde/gnome/wm/etc plugin that allows manipulation of the OS. Like chaging the IP addy, adding new hardware, changing grub/lilo, changing resolutions/depth, nedd I really go on, with basic things in windows, that takes a bit more work in linux?
If the distros make it so the guys who know enough to install firefox, spybot, and know what the best video card is, then they can tip the balance. They are the are the 13-16 year olds of the music industry for us.
Now honestly, I couldn't care less if linux ever made it past 20% of the desktops. With just that much, companies wont ignore it. However, I do want greater than 50% of servers to be non windows.
Actually, the moving to a bigger city I did it, and things are not better off for the most part.
But here is some advice for those that do move. Get rid of everything! Well get rid of everything you can, even if it hurts. I had things in storage for over a year, for a 10x8 at say 45 a mont is $540, if you have a family, you will need more space. Then add the cost of the truck to the location, then again when you want to move the stuff out of storage. That gets up to $1000 easy. (and a lot of time)If it is vaulable, sell it!
Plan on a min of 3 months with no work. It takes about a month from sending a resume to someone to being hired by them.(most drag their feet longer, very few are quicker)
Also, some areas, are notibly over stocked with IT professionals(and wanna be professinals). So you will be competing for a job agaist 300-500 resumes. (utah salt lake city is like this)
Then some places, pay way low wages. The only reason why houses in slc are not as high as others. Where a good job is anything over $10 an hr.(Experanced Programming jobs at $10 hr! But people take those jobs)
" Ah yes, the American answer (and question) to everything: litigation."
Funny, we got it from the Brits. It is where our law comes from, heck even old Brit precedents are used in our court system once in a while. America just exploited it better. (and actually much of it originated from Rome/Greece)
" Don't: Sell your soul to a publisher that will suck the life out of you."
Even Bioware with it's weight of NWN and other games, still is at the complete mercy of the publishers.
Most gaming co's seam to be bought out by the people who are publishers.
I wish I could find out more about the relationship and duties between publisher and game companies.
My understanding is the publisher helps fund the game during production, and is in charge of distributing it, and makes most of the money per box sold. They also force requirements onto the game devs like copy protection.
But it is hard for me to find out, since I am not in the industry, and most people who do really know are not the programmers.(although they know more than I do) And the people that know can't or wont tell.
Ignoring the fact that the people bidding on an item with a finish date after the stores can sell the item. (idiots!)
There is a problem with pre-ordering, I pre-ordered doom3, got it nearly a week after I could have bought it in a walk in store. (and it was one of the retailers that linked off of the doom3 website)
It was not us, the citizens. It was the corporations that apposed it that made it happen.

Oh, mod that up!

Ok you say that, but I don't see anything that says that.
Could you enlighten us lazy people with how you came to that conclusion?
Not bashing you, but would be nice to have some facts.
Isn't this 7 days late?

it is called gearing.
You lose speed for str.
Tell that to the bnetd team, and other like projects that shut down due to legal pressure.
That must mean they have a max 1 gig of free space?
want to see a difference bewten versions?
check out the resources it uses.

"Attorney's don't make patent law. . . Who made the laws? Who can undo them?"
Most people in government have law backgrounds. So yes, those scum lawyers do make the laws.
the problem is being overlooked.
For them to get name they need to have proff that it is being stolen(or what ever you want to call it)
and to force them into givign the names, that is what the governemt should do, once the government has been shown proff.
It already exists a way for them to inforce it. What they want now is a way for them to enforce it and proffit from it.
Not only did Netscape give us javascript, it gave us frames, font, images, blinking, need I say more?

Shouldn't that read something more like 2010?

AmpZila
Winzilla should be reserved for an OS.
I second this, LDAP profiles are a must now days. Bookmarks, etc.
Also, a single place where they can auto force settings in a corp, like proxies, and other settings.

Got any links or information on this? (I am at work and am limited to what I can do)
Thanks
