    Do you have your browser set to report as IE ? That defeats the purpose and causes more harm than good. Makes it look like more people are IE then there really is.

    Look at it this way, you will have a bunch of people using standard compliant browsers who are generaly thought of last, and even blocked from using websites! This will make using the web with all non IE browsers so much better. One standard, one code, any browser!

    While I do consider aol one of the major evils (even more because of tw) they do have lots of very smart and good people working for them. (btw, pretty much the entire IT dept is anti ms, its all sun and sgi's, and maybe linux too)

    btw, I posted that aol was doing this on more than one occation, and everyone here said ya right.

    Is it really that hard to take cc sales over the net? I've never programed a cc transaction, but the rest is rather simple, encrypted page, database, etc. One to two days of work, pluss the time it takes to get the sales use of a credit card.

    Now /. choses to portray paypall as the evil it is. But what I don't get is why they insist on making them money, and to alienate us uses so much?

    Bah, now that is far from true. Coal is messy, releases more radioactive wastes too that people don't know about.

    Modern cars are actualy quite good as far polution level goes. Cars use up engery to burn up its waste more. Sure it loses a tiny bit of power, but its a lot cleaner. But I'm not done yet . .

    Now lets add in the fact how much power is lost just to get to your house. I wish i could find the link right now, but I think it was something about 50% of the engery makes it on average. Now, cars are cleaner.

    "Electric cars" is a wide spread. Battery, solara, etc. Electric is good, but depending on how that electricy is made, is whats hows it to be good.

    btw, I have read that coal powerplans are not very efficient in any way.

    I'm sorry, but if you haven't read a lot that goes on, but paypal is not a good way to do things, and many of us will not use such a service.

    Purhaps /. should have talked more fully on this subject.

    Why couldn't you set up encrypted pages to allow a direct pay with the cc?

    Also, might want ot think of things that are vaule added that would be worth buying.

    Like good fast encrypted web email with more than 10 megs of space.

    A vote for new features.

    The government is so wastefull on purpose. The more they spend, the more money thye need, it becaomes an endless cycle, with very little balance.

    Government spending toons of money is a good thing for most everyone, because it creates jobs, and recycles the money further. The more taxes they take, the more jobs they can create, the less enimployed people there are.

    See how it works? I don't like it one bit, but thats what happens. Your $0.78 is basicaly a welform program of sorts use to make thigns look good so they can be re-elected.

    It's all part of politics. Its ugly, wastefull, and even hurtfull.

    Remember, government spending 110% of its income makes the government look good to many.

    Corporate take over of the world. . . It isn't that far fetched. Check out who pays the politicans, and who they really listen too.

    Whats stopping the developers from representing themselves?

    I mean it when into complete detail describing the situation as un biasly as posible, and picked apart the letter, and the legality of it all.

    One would also think that many (ethical) law students would jump at the chance to do this. Or are there no ethical law students?

    They do charge radio stations for playing songs. But I agree, if they could charge each person for listening, they would. But the technology isn't there. . Yet. . .

    I know this apears to be slightly off topic. But it isn't.

    We, me, you, and anyone else who cares about our rights need to show it. Little by little our rights are windled down to little more than slaves so that big copperations can find new ways to make money off of us.

    We need to show the government that we have a voice. And that we will no longer tolerate this kind of behavior. I am tried of being a sheep, are you?

    So once again, I ask who else lives near the Washington DC Area?

    I got the same cut and past e-mail. But it didn't fully address my e-mail. So I don't think it was even read. Let alone thought about passed on to those that matter, or even counted.

    But I hope they are reciving a LOT of them from LOTS of people saying "bad blizzard, I wont buy any more of your games".

    I would love to view the results for many reason reguardless of out come.

    Will my comment be posted, was it thrown out as an "I hate MS"?

    What was others comments(pros/cons)?

    Which side had the most form letters?

    How much spam did they get? and what anti-spam actions did they take.

    How will they prevent spammers from getting peoples e-mails?

    But everything works well together w/o having to shell out toons of money for each peice. Yes the hardware cost a lot, but it is well worth it. Good hardware, backed with good support. Oh, and sun software plays well with others. So you don't have to use sun only things.

    They ended up making the OS free, only paying for costs. (shipping/midea) granted its still ~$70. but it comes with several CDs, and other little goodies.

    There is a problem with so many of the open source license that we use. They are tailored to "freeware". There needs to be more emphasis on creating new license that open up the code, yet insure that the person or company has a way to make money from it, and make money from making programs that shared libaries.

    This world is ran with money. People do need to eat. And there needs to be more emphasis on open source, and less on free software.

    Best buy has in the past, priced something low by accident, and rased the price not only on the page, but on peoples credit cards who have already made the low purchase.

    The incident I am thinking of was about 2-3 years back, and over a name brand 19" monitor, going for about 1/3 it's normal price. There may be others, as I usualy don't follow this kind of thing.

    So, the moral of this? be warry, check your cc bill.

    I will never ever touch anything .NET or related technologies that soul purpose is for marketing and generating income. And yes, I'm talking about Sun baby too, libertry I think its called.

    I don't care how related it would be, or how much it makes use of it. I, and I hope many others, would boycott any such technology. Open source or not.

    Camblemodems are able to run much faster than they currently do. They are told to run so slow for a few reasons.

    1. Cost them money to get the big pipe for the users
    2. Make you play well with others
    3. They tailor the service for people who would not be willing to pay more for more bandwith.
    4. They have a monopoly, so they can do what ever they want with very low risk of losing you to compitition.

    I've downloaded 700k a second, and uploaded over 500k a second on the old lancity cablemodems in fremont cali years ago. Sicne then they have pushed cablemodems that they can control the speeds on. And they do, they slow them down hugely.

    Err, yes they are. Didn't you follow the AOL/TW merger? They have to open up the aim.

    Since that was so long ago, I did a quick search for for this information:

    I can keep looking if you wish. Aim should be delt with the same way as email. Client peices shouldn't matter. All people want to do is comunicate in a manner they like.
