If the linux adoption continues to grow, companies will be forced to make the changes. The balls in our court people. We have a chance to change how certain aspects of industry (the world) operation. And perhaps its not fair to dictate in this manner, but if it does end consumers the world of good, then it can't be bad can it?
Lets keep doing what we're currently doing. Lets change the world!
Perhaps these kids do not derail? Perhaps they just come to a more profound understanding of the Universe then most men... If that was so, it take an active role in this physical world would be very pointless to them. It's not so hard to imagine.
I remember watching CNBC, a business channel in Asian and broadcast to Australia via Foxtel/Austar (and perhaps other providers), that at one point, several years ago, showed a 3 year old or 2 or something, that could read e-mail. They made a big deal about it, but didn't impress me too much. But i was wondering if this is the same kid?
So does that mean if i ever decide to get rid of my 3310... or whatever it is, I'll have a noce portable storage device, camera etc that can be used with my linux desktop?
Could this move see corporate organisations in the future controlling open source software? For example, pretty much now Linus says whats goes in the kernel right? Although i would assume there are plenty of people to set him straight every once and a while...
With google hiring people, if these people work their way up within an OSS project and eventual gain some sort of elite nature in that project these people, Or google, could have the final say in how projects are run or what is included... Is it a possibility?
I think they normaly require PHDs and are at the more interesting scale of computer science, rather then your average php, apache administration jobs. I think i classify as worker burnout, or hwoever you put it. I'm due to graduate soon and i dont wanna end up working for the man! I want to do something on my own. I want to continue to edit wikipedia. And i want to maybe work on some open source projects. But how do i do all this with out a cash stream? Does anyone? I'd like to know how they survive or at least my chances of surviving if i take the care free road to wikipedia and open source software.
When studying, software engineering was commonly compared to other engineering disiplins, such as civil, to show the contrasts.
Software engineering faces many more problems. When a bridge or building is build, it is rarley attacked or vandalised. When it is it falls. Just like software. The problem is, software is targeted much much more then any other engineering feat.
I dont use libraries a lot, although i did recently, and i just realised i forgot about my overdue book again!!! DOH!
Could this technology make libraries obsolete, or at least, get rid of any lines? Why bother actualy borowing a book now, when you can scan just the pages you want, instead of photocopying them and be done with it! Great idea! Saves the tree's too!
Unfortunatly most computer science students end up coding in software teams, for commercial organisations. But there are other fields, such as research and development that make greater use of CS skills. For exmpale, I did Theory of Computation last semester. Hard subject, but i thought it was great. It gave me a back ground on computers in general, the P vs NP problem etc. But is also went into completeness, analysing problems etc. A very important subject from a computer science point of view, but maybe not from a coders point of view, which is what most CS students end up doing.
I dont mind giving up my privacy if it means i'm going to be watching an interesting advertisment, rather then on i'm not going to like. That is, we're gunna get the advertisments anyway, so what if they're more suited to us? We're more likly to take notice. Its a benefit for consumers and the service providers.
This system is great... but i do hav to use my flate mate computers to be able to use the software...
Hold on... did someone say its web based? Last years wasnt... i think they did have a web based one... But not even that is linux friendly? Fark!!! I'm singing!!!
You have to give the GPL A lot of credit. Linux succeeded where BSD have not. Or rather, Linux seems to be more successful then the BSD despite being much younger. The requirement for people to add modify code and keep it open is the reason for linux's success. It is my opinion this allowed it to grow more quickly, not allowing people who may be greedy to take advantage of it.
The statement that we or it doesnt need the GPL any more is interesting. I dont know if this has any relation to the article, because i'm not going to read it. But if Linux was to adopt the BSD or MIT licence, it would be damn interesting to find out where linux makes it in the future. If there was a BSD/MIT version of linux, i think there would be a community behind it, just is now, only, there will be a lot more companies considering it for their products. This could only be good.
For example. TCP => BSD. TCP is a standard these days. If linux was to go BSD/MIT, could all operating systems of the future use the Linux kernel at a standard?
If thats the same dolphin water vehical invented by a NZer, i'm impressed. NZ do it again... Buggers!!! These things look fantastic, imagine jetski*submarine. Its a lesure vechical that can go under water... sweet stuff!:)
I've always assumed it had something to do with the angle the light is entering the atmosphere and the angle at which we're perceiving it. That is, maybe like shining light through glass it bends and twists... But then again, light always comes out the same size when passed through glass. But maybe its something similar? The particals in the air, somehow pick up the light and illuminate it at different angles?
I've always felt it would be something to do with the atmosphere, rather then an illusian as described.
It may sound bad, but like there are bad areas of one city, where the general population earns a lot less then those other areas of the city and crime rate is high.
Could Apple be filtering who exactly get access to their machines because of the higher price on hardware? I guess the flaw in this argument is that a "bad" computer user may not be neccessarily poor, infact they could be quite rich.
So now the school system is steeping in where parents have failed? This screams fucking ridiculous to me! What schools should be done is providing more physical activity and probably putting the fatter kids into more physical activity. That is if they are so concerned about children's health.
This latest method sounds like we're treating our kids like dogs. Sounds like their spoiling the kids. Need i ask, just what type of students attend this school? That is, students with rich or poor parents????
I'm one of those people who must find the right way to do everything and do it in a clean, efficient way. This bill seems like added bulk to me. I'm certain there must be another way around these problems, rather then just rehacking legislation.
With all the new bills and laws being added, does this have some effect on the effectiveness of the justice system? It seems governments these days are in competition with Microsoft to see how many patches/hacks they can add to an already bloated system.
Well if a recently survey that had been conducted was right, and most people/organisation use OSS because there is less dependancy on commercial software providers. I dont think we'll have much to worry about.
Slowing down doesn't mean stoping... Somtimes:) But not always.
I believe your right. The internet is bringing people together for the common good. In this instance, to provide the world with a wealth of information.
Who knows, maybe future global projects on space travel will be based upon "Open Source Research"?
What i've been thinking of recently is a forum, much like slashdot where people can talk present research and even colaborate together on some of the toughest problems known to human kinda. The hope is that this information will be freely available so that government or commercial organisation can pick up the research and further it or provide applications that make use of the research. Possibly even contributing back to the community.
Know we get into the argument of MIT/BSD vs GPL. So i wont go there. But this is absolutly wonderful news. Bring on utopia!

I hate these people :| .. ok.. i'm just jealous... but they really irk me :|
So does that mean if i ever decide to get rid of my 3310... or whatever it is, I'll have a noce portable storage device, camera etc that can be used with my linux desktop?
Sounds like a step in the right direction!

wow *surprised*
(not a sarcastic post)
They prefer to be called 'little people'!
Could one be more correct in saying he drank it? Which is what he said on news reports here in Australia. Unless i'm totaly off my tree :|

slashdot should have been on that list?
