SCO want's SGI to remove the entire XFS system code and even that may not be enough for SCO since everthing that has even the most remote connection to UNIX is a dervztive. I have a UNIX Primer book in the bookshelf next to me so this message is probably a UNIX derivative and anyone who reads it will need to pay a licensing fee to SCO.
Even though there are lots of old-timers that will want to keep things as they are there are many that would not mind to see it go. I have seen surveys that show some of the biggest supporters for getting rid of the morse code requirements are older and higher class hams. They, like me, think it is a remnant of a bygone era. I used to make CW contacts back when I had a novice ticket but when I passed my test for 13wpm (words per minute) to get my General class I never used morse code again.
I don't know if Redhat's filing has so much to do with the SCO vs IBM suit as it does with all the PR and claims SCO has been making about copyrighted code in Linux. This has put a cloud over Linux for some and this hurts Redhat. Instead of leaving these aligations floating out there Redhat is going to court to force SCO to put up or shut up. Also if there really is illegal code in Linux the sooner we find out just what that code is the sooner the developers can replace that code and move on.
Actually not all farmers plow up the whole fields now days with the various low tillage systems being used. My brother does what is called ridge tilling and only plows between the ridges where the corn or beens are planted. This reduces the amount of plowing and intern reduces the amount of soil erosion.
My brother, who farms in Iowa, has been using GPS for a couple of years now. One use of GPS is he when he harvests the combine uses the GPS to map out the yields in small areas of the field instead of just knowing the yield for the whole field. Using this info and soils tests he can determine what areas have good amounts of nutrients and what areas do not. The next summer when he plants he feeds this info into the equipment and with the GPS it automatically adjusts the amount of fertilizer that each part of the field needs. Modern farming involes more high tech then many people realize and one the main reasons US farmers out produce any other farmers in the world.
I noticed that comment in the article also. I think they are refering to the fact this is the first distributed project to get an article published in a scientific journal.
According to AT&T those with AT&T modems are not paying $10 more but those owning their own modems are getting a $10 discount. AT&T is reducing the discount to &3 so by their reasoning they are not charging more but giving back less.
I was think of doing the same thing since my wife and I both use POP3 access on Yahoo and it would cost me $40 the first year then $60/yr after that. Where can you register a domain for $8, I usually se them for about $15?
Are you say that the Democratic Mayor of Phillidehpia allowed Bush to use his police force to hoarse & abuse protestors? I am no fan of Bush either and am seriously thinking of voting for Harry Browne the Liberitarian.
I also thought this news story was about a Honda robot I had first seen over a year ago. After seeing a BBC news story today I see the P3 is a new improved version from Honda.
If you don't like KDE or Gnome then don't use them. Some of us like a desktop enviroment like KDE or Gnome running on a more robust OS. I think that is one of the biggest advantages to Linux is the flexability of configuring the system to be what you want.
If you don't want to waste your memory and cpu cycles on KDE then don't use it, no one is forcing you to run KDE on your system. If your happy with Star Office, Netscape and Window Maker then by all means use them, no one is stopping you.
Most of the devices mentioned use WWVB which I understand will continue to operate. It is the shortwave signal, WWV and WWVH that will be terminated.

This may be nit picking but technically Egghead was bought out by Onsale. Onsale then changed their name to Egghead.

Many people do seem to know that Bill Hewllett inveneted the variable audio oscillator. The was the product that started Hewlett-Packard.

I first read about this in a news item Feb 2 on ArsTechnica. So this news is kind of old.
