    Carmack is a programming genuis, but I'm afraid all this big talk about PLAYABLE unique, detailed outdoor scences and 32-64 player vast outdoor battles are really coming from a company and programmer that has never released an engine capable of these features.

    Carmack is continually pushing the envelope for textural detail and geometry, always at the price of map size. The numbers of online player for Doom3 and Quake 4 are proof of failed attempts on Ids last major releases.

    I'm very, very skeptical that ET: Quake Wars will be able to deliver cutting edge graphics and massive outdoor scenes.

    For multiplayer games, there is a short list of successful games that have delivered quality graphics and massive maps:
    Tribes 1-2
    BF1942
    BFV
    BF2

    Id is completely missing from the list.

    Linux has a decent FS driver for NTFS. Last time I checked, writing was experimental, but it has worked flawlessly for me. Does BSD not have a similar driver? Or is BSD code on OSX a pain in the ass?

    Do you really boot into OSX and open your Linux "toolbox"? Or are you left with a small handful of Linux code that actually runs on OSX?

    It's like the T-shirt made in the same Chinese factory, one half sent to Walmart to sell at $7 the other half sent to Designer store tagged at $50. It's hilarious to see these Apple fanatics rave about the quality and workmanship of their $5 shirts.

    How exactly is Adobe Photoshop and Premiere utter crap on Intel Duo running WinXP, but not on the same Intel Duo running OSX? Its the same hardware, shortcuts, speed, GUI. Where is the utter garbage? Where is your red herring fanboy!

    The fact is that Macs are starting to run identical hardware to PCs and 90% of those old tired, biased photoshop filter benchmarks, which are the real utter crap of platform comparisions, mean alsolutely nothing now. You're running our hardware now!

    Remember the slow hardware that was 10% slower running a len flare on that 2gb PSD? We'll you're running it now bitch! Funny how now that you're using our hardware, it's not so shitty anymore. So now it's the OS that makes these identical apps work so flawlessly?

    Give me a fucking break.
    Hire a company to clean out your windows systems every 2 months? The utter crap is spewing out of your mouth.

    But anyone who has any knowledge of business would realize that the money you spend on Dewalt, goes directly to the company owning the brand, Black and Decker. Which is directly related to the parents point that, buying Dewalt could be a protest of Walmarts control over Black and Decker. But since they are the EXACT SAME COMPANY financialy, every one of your Dewalt dollars dissapears into the Black and Decker finance soup, it is not earmarked for Dewalt.

    My point: Boycotting Black and Decker and buying Dewalt outside of Walmart does little to nothing to protest Black and Decker at Walmart!

    - Age 18 to 23, hardcore PC user and ambivalent mac spectator
    - Age 24-26, PC user and occasional Mac user (to help friends and family)
    - Age 26-28, iPod owner several times over, and fan of Mac OS X technology (still PC user)
    - Age 29, PowerMac G5 and Mac Mini user, and an Apple sticker on the back of my car.

    But its really sad to see the Slashdot community to go from a can do, toaster modding bunch of creative tech junkies, into an Apple teet sucking, iPod praising pussies, sucking up Apples marketing crap and pretending it just the natural, uncommercialized evolution from Linux to a solid GUI. And everyone using Windows and a non Apple Ipod is missing something.

    Please, please pull that giant Apple marketing dildo out of your collective asses.

    Windows is not broken, OSX is not infallable, and Ipods are ubertrendy.
    If you're going to be a whore, that's fine. But don't do it under the guise that it's the right thing, trying to rationalize your weakness to flutter into the mainstream.

    If you can't list 100 reasons why OSX is better than Windows and vice versa, another 20 why an Ipod is better than its -$100 counterpart and vice versa, you have lost all objectivity. You are now an ignorant whore, and you've lost the plot.

    The sky is not falling, Microsoft is not purposely making shitty code, the man is not stealing your hard earned dollars.
    The line between the weekend commando, dressing their kids up in cammo in the paranoia of pretecting themselves from democracy, and the M$ hater genuinely thinking that Bill is purposely ruining the world, is paper thin.

    Both MS and APPLE are here for one reason, increasing shareholder value. Whoever convinces the market that they aren't wins.

    Respect to Steve Jobs, for convincing some of what I thought were the most objective people on the internet, to think different.

    Apple was the vendor that really caused USB to take off...8 or 9 years ago.
    WTF are you talking about? Mac touted firewire as the hot swap connector of choice, they only introduced USB reluctantly after computer hardware makers said collectively "FUCK YOU APPLE, WERE ONLY MAKING PERIPHERALS IN USB".
    Then and only then did Macs come with USB, long after it was standard PC issue.

    To this day it's hard to find any use for firewire aside from external storage and DV transfers.

    The Macbook pro w/ 2.16ghz Duo ran a photoshop script in 1:10
    The Acer Duo w/ 2.0ghz Duo ran a photoshop script in 1:11

    The Mac Duo laptop with a 8% higher clocked CPU ran a benchmark 1.4% faster than the Acer Duo.
    If anything, this looks bad for the Mac Duo.
    Why is it seeing such a tiny improvement when it is 160mhz faster?
