I don't mind the more expensive Apple iProducts because they get to run the latest iOS for 6-7 years since the original release date and they're significantly more secure. If I was a big-time drug dealer, tax evader, or a bitcoin fraudster, I'd make sure to get an apple phone because I suspect even the feds are going to have a hard time getting your data out of it. But for most other purposes, Android should suffice.

My current Honor 6X, I got for under 200USD, it has a great screen and camera, great battery life and SD card slot, gets security updates every other month, and runs pretty much the same apps that a 800 dollar Galaxy S9 runs, sans the bloatware (surprisingly, Huawei's Android is actually less bloated than Samsung or LG)
I recall very well what a fuckup the LG Nexus 5X was. Pretty much all of those phones boot-looped sooner or later. The Nexus 5X was the only American-market smartphone based on Snapdragon 808/810 SoC with only 2GB of RAM. (Meanwhile folks buying the Moto G4/G5 plus for under 250USD with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage could laugh all day at people who still thought 5X was a good value).
The screen on many 5X phones developed a yellowish tint and needed a settings option to correct it. This was the only phone I ever owned that had poor contacts in the 3.5mm audio jack. The battery life was horrendous. Every time you turned on the phone, you could literally see the charge going down by 5 percent just loading a web site or checking/writing messages.
Nexus 5X was absolutely the worst, half-assed attempt by google to make a mid-range phone. No wonder that less than one year since the 5X release, the still unsold stock of 32GB model was being unloaded for just 225USD in the following summer. I have never seen such horrendous depreciation, but it was more than justified.
These days, my go-to budget and affordable midrage phones are either Moto G series or Huawei's various Honor phones.
Not true. Whale oil was highly prized in the 19th century, and well into 20th, and had many applications. (as a side note, whale oil based additives used to be very important in vehicle transmissions)

Well, to my surprise the Honor 7x, the phone introduced early in 2018, never hit the shelves at our local Best Buy, and then they just dropped all of Huawei's products. The sectarian conflict is still simmering in Iraq, and the rise of ISIS in Syria was certainly helped by the civil war that went on in the neighboring Iraq.
Bush's decimation of Saddam Hussein also had one nasty surprise, the influence of Iran in the Gulf got stronger than ever (Iran's worst enemy regime got replaced with one that's friendly).
And yet, after all of this, the liberals still think that Trump is the worst president and they're even willing to rehabilitate GWB.
No folks, GWB was the real shame of this country. Despite his best efforts, Trump hasn't gotten there so far.
And how much thinner the Android phones should go? The Galaxy S8 is already about perfect size. It's only 8mm thin and it STILL HAS 3.5mm jack. Why would anyone need a thinner device?
Samsung is afraid of building an honest to god good 200-300 dollar smartphone that could compete with say the popular Moto G series because then the bubble of the 800-1000 dollar Galaxies and Notes will pop as people will realize that a cheap phone still can have a big screen, a quality build, and for most purposes it runs the same apps you need to use just fine.
I care about audio quality and comfort but you don't need to have a dedicated audio player for that. Case in point the well known Koss Porta Pro and Sennheiser PX100ii ranges of headphones. They are both affordable and designed to work well connected to a mobile device.
So we now need to buy a 700 dollar smartphone to have a headphone jack? And the A8 still costs hundreds of dollars. For the last few years, my go-to cheap android phones were Huawei Honor and Moto G series. I never paid more than 200 bucks, and they always came with a headphone jack.
It's preposterous to defend Samsung by saying they did this to save the costs of making this "budget" device.
Seriously? As if a headphone jack costs more than $0.50?
You are probably correct, but when they sell cellphones by many many millions of units, these costs savings will add put to a nice seven figure pile of cash which the chief executives will pay to themselves as an end of year "bonus" while the suckers they're calling their customers be asked to swallow this new "feature" as if it was an improvement.
I'm definitely on the side of TV manufacturers since they seem to be embracing new technology and pushing it forward - and working to deliver higher resolution video with better framerates.
You gotta be kidding. Watching a film recorded at high frame rate is one thing. But, this TV signal processing and interpolation makes all the surfaces look artificial, plastic, and digital, which is far far more real. It introduces a different kind of fake. It makes a motion picture look as fake as a video game. If _this_ is what some people like, it's simply a testament to having developed a bad taste and bad judgement.
You don't see motion blur in real life why do you want it in movies?
Because movies are not real life? What's next? Should be start telling painters to give up acrylic or oil painting because it doesn't look as real as a color photograph?
