Too bad the Feds won't blame what's really at fault - the insecure public telephone network. * is a a godsend for those of us who advocate Free Software and can't afford a "hard" PBX.
I'm wondering if other people will follow suit with a business model that goes something like:
1. Get a PRI line from Telco 2. Set up * to spoof callerid using PRI 3. Profit!
There are blocklists that you can load into iptables or azureus BT client. Obviously these lists do not work with the tracker, but only work to prevent someone on the blacklist from connecting to your machine.
Do these lists help at all, additionaly, does the owner of the copyright have to actually *connect* to your machine to see what you have for evidence or is just the fact that you are connected according to the tracker evidence enough?
The best way to protect your children and your PC is to spend quality time with them, teaching them the basics of PC protection and chat room safety.
IMHO, these things are better taught in person than with a book. The reviewer did not mention actually spending any time with your kids. I hope the book does, because too many people are using books and products like these as a substitute for teaching thier kids in person about computer safety.
Cool Distinction that I made from the article: One reason people make it is that, in open source, they don't see the revolutionary new versions magically appearing. In comparison, look at commercial closed systems. They make a new release every year or three to four years with a huge marketing splash. They make it look very different. But it's a circus to make it look like a sudden innovation.
In open source, you don't have a circus. You don't see a sudden explosion. It's not done that way. All development is very gradual -- whether commercial or open source. Even when you have a big thinker coming along with a new idea, actually getting it working takes a lot of sweat and tears.
Proprietary Vendors are like nitro dragsters, being the first ones off of the line with their brand new product. Trying to wow people and making a huge splash.
Open source is like a mile long freight train. Functional, slower to get started, but when the momentum gets going, its going to be much, much harder to stop than that nitro dragster.
I picked this one up at the local blockbuster on the way home from work about 10 years ago. It was BAD, but strangely I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
It has a little of everything- Exploding bums, Gang rape by the homeless, The severing of a bum's member then the subsequent game of keep away, A creep getting his ass kicked by a cop, then puked on after having his head stuffed in a urinal.
Christopher Lamparello, the guy on the other end of the Falwell suit, had it coming. Bad Karma so to speak.
He's a scammer of the first class. He ripped off a family member of mine with his book (should be called a pamphlet) "$1,000 a week for life", where basically he tells you to start a business. He doesn't tell you how, but he pontificates on very many other subjects besides money. $25 for a product that an 8th grader could have come up with.
He's a known Spammer too. Here's the whois for mailordergold.com Domain Name: MAILORDERGOLD.COM

I decided to go back to college to get away from the ass embly line. It's a dismal life, becuase I really don't like someone telling me what to do, then watching my every bathroom break.
If software engineering goes this route, I'll just find something t o do which gives me the freedom that I value and enjoy.
The webserver must be running on the beta model of the Swissmemory USB Webserver.
Swiss army knives traditionally used out in the wild on camouts, hiking, fishing trips, etc.
The concept of this gadget is cool, but could someone enlighten me to the uses of a USB flash drive out in the wild?
I'll be OK with it as long as you can't slap anyone with a large brown trout.

Great, now I can run that bigshot down the hall from me at the seniors home with the Racsal right out of the hallway.
I'm fact, I'll be the first one to the bingo table!
Was the Mini-Os Windows CE by any chance? I'd bet that's pretty obfuscated!
You can wire up a joystick and a few buttons to be used to interface an old keyboard into a MAME Machine's arcade control panel.
Put Doom3 or Halo in an IMAX and you won't have any trouble getting $50 out of my wallet.
Where were going we don't need.. roads.

A good way to tell if an album is released by an RIAA member is to use the RIAA Radar website.
It's a good way to boycott the RIAA while still being able to buy CDs.
If it's true, this will be a good opportunity for me to unplug. I'll Grab a nice book and catch up on some offline reading.

Aside from being a propreitary product, what does netscape bring to the table that Mozilla does not?

Good point. This one was personal to me, so I had trouble holding it in.
It was just good to see this guy taking a beating instead of giving one.

He also has 18 unresolved complaints against him per the Better Business Bureau of New York.
VOIP is becoming a big business. If you don't like one provider, try a different one. NuFone is a good one. It works extremely well with Asterisk too.
That's great and all, but lawmakers won't listen until MS or is using Bittorrent themselves to distribute updates.
My prediction is that MS will do the "embrace and extend" thing with bittorrent once they catch on to it.
Here's a fine guide on serial port programming from none other than the guys who brought us the cups printing system:

First Trojan for WinCE? Good! Now I won't have all of these little Pocket PCs running around!
True about SCO, but look at point #2 and tell me that SCO doesn't look silly and isn't the laughingstock of other tech corporations.
IBM wouldn't want to make themselves look that bad.
IBM cannot assert any of it's patents against linux, since they:
1. Contributed to the linux kernel
2. Would look very silly and incongruent for going against something it uses to make money
This is just counter-FUD to keep IBM's linux customers satisfied.
