Here's a full article at daemonnews about the history of postgresql.
It would be interesting if someone would benchmark these, noting the similarities and differences between the two now that ingres is open source. Also, maybe the pgsql development team could learn a thing or two by studying what CA did with ingres over the years. Maybe there is still some common code and design paradigms left between the two.
Voice your opinion by not watching network TV if you're fed up with what is censorship in your opinion. Watch HBO or any other pay media that is light on censorship.
What difference does this make anyway? 99% of TV watchers will continue to watch TV regardless of censorship issues. The people will watch the ads, revenue from ad agencies will still roll in, bills will get paid, and everybody in corporate america will be happy.
We've had the same problem on our network until we banned people from downloading microsoft executable and certain types of archive files using our network alltogther.
Our company firewall redirects all http traffic through a transparent squid, where we have a bunch of ACLs that allow and disallow certain things. All of the non standard HTTP(s) ports are blocked at the firewall.
We are a smallish shop of only ~50 users, and this all works out fine. No more spyware/crapware/malware headaches.
Now that JBoss has been out for quite some time and set itself up as the premiere Open Source J2EE server, how will Apache get people to try Geronimo out, especially seeing as the 1st milestone lacks many features?
Will it be Speed? Security? Ease of configuration?
Hopefully all 3. I can't wait to try it out.

A better way to do it would be to only veto oplocks on certain types of files with the veto oplock files option.
We had problems with dbase file locking until we vetoed oplocks on those files.
To do it, it looks like this: veto oplock files =/*.DBF/*.dbf/*.CDX/*.cdx/*.IDX/*.idx/*.fxp/*.FXP/*.prg/*.PRG/*.mmo/*.MMO/
This way, you're not using oplocks on only the types of files that are giving you hell, while getting the best performance possible from all other file types.
Why not just create a quarantine mailbox for the executable attachments and redirect all of them there for further processing instead of rejecting them outright?
Using the procmail MDA this is fairly trivial and keeps end users and customers happy.
This letter only serves the belief that Free Software is winning, technology is advancing faster than SCO can keep up, and there's nothing that Darl McBride can do to stop it.
Great Idea, but I have a hard time seeing how it will work. The DMCA was created by corporations, for corporations.
When an ISP gets a letter from Mr. Big at Very large media corporation, inc., they will notice. If an ISP gets a letter from joeslashdot@somedomain.com, they won't read it, and if they do, they'll think to themselves "I can't believe that this guy has the cojones to tell me that I should take this huge, good standing customer's website down", then the letter will end up in the trash.
Shouldn't that be GNU/Penguin?

The Linux version of the popcorn maker uses a much better kernel than the windows version.

Yes, but don't forget to pack a wife!
If this movie does well, I hope the PKD estate allows someone to do The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch.
That book was quite the head-trip, and with the right director would make an awesome film.
One way to handle this problem is low bandwidth codecs on the cable/DSL links and for your lan links you can go full out PCM Alaw/Ulaw.
Jitter can be a problem on unreliable links, but for the most part VOIP can be done right. When it's done right it's a Good Thing.
Alright....next step is to add a couple extra pounds of propellant, and 3 guys
You must be talking about Darl, Chris, and Bill, right?
Don't you mean weapons of *ass* destruction?

Talk about putting the "Arse" in Arsenal!

If you come from an MFC background, you should give wxWidgets (Formerly wxWindows) a try. It's quite similar, but lacks much of the insanity of MFC.
The damn systems keep Overheating
Same old cut and paste troll from comp.os.linux.advocacy. See Here

On a more serious note, maybe were seeing the Quantum Zeno effect on a global scale.
Why mod people up without actually reading the fucking link? I mean why? How can you justify giving someone mod points without seeing whats posted?
How is it done in python?
Any takers?

Does the primary language of the person who programs your dialog boxes really matter?
Yes, imagine buying a new scanner, having something happen, and getting an error dialog like this.
How would you feel about having to suppport 50+ users using this software?
Honestly, though, how many PHB's and/or CIO's read slashdot and keep up with the test kernel releases?
