Something was seriously wrong in that office and for Kundra to not be a participant or not even know leaves me wondering why he is still going to hold a position in President Obama's administration. Obama's vetting process sucks to say the least, worse is the pass too many get in the press till the vast right wing conspiracy stirs up enough dust on radio to force the printed press to jump
and think they can simply circumvent the law when it suits them.
I remember all the crying over Clinton, all the crying over Bush, but regardless of which party held the whitehouse or which held congress, the real problem has always been Congress.
Congress has turned into the ultimate entitlement, the ultimate expression of power corrupts.
It matters not which party is in charge, unless you count how eager the press is to chase them, it only matters that the same old people are there year after year.
Congress knows better, they just don't care. They think they are above the law because they are the law in their eyes. They have become judge and jury and we let them get away with it.
For all the claims of wanting a more transparent government this is the best place to start. Hell the thing isn't even transparent or mostly answerable to Congress.
The fact remains hundreds, if not thousands, of American banks are fine. Better yet it the position of America's credit unions - who by the way are going to be ruined if Congress gets its way because they are trying to force the same loan rules on them that got banks into trouble. Essentially forcing them into making bad loans so as not to be declared discriminatory. Sorry, I want my credit union to discriminate against those who cannot financially uphold their end of the deal. People should not get a pass of responsibility just because they are politically favored class.
Dishonest doesn't even begin to adequately label the President and Congress. We know have a group in Washington who not only has no problem inciting mob rule, violence even (there are people stalking AIG employees who are not even executives.. let alone responsible), and getting away with it. All Americans should be very afraid of our own law makers, for if you become a political liability, you fall out of favor with the political class, they will use the power of law to take your property. They will use their power to get free exposure in the press and on tv and goad other's to harass you , shame you, and hate you.
We have a US President going on a comedy show and disingenuously declaring shock over an event he knew was coming. Geitner was quizzed in public (look it up on cspan) panel discussions in Congress by a Democrat!
Yeah, Bush was annoying, but these guys just went beyond the pale. They are inciting people. Worse the President is joining in. All against people who broke now law, people who were LAWFULLY owed the money. People who Congressmen who by signing the stimulus bill declared were legally owed the money!
WTF?
AIG is just the vehicle that these guys are using to trounce all our rights. We now have a political class who shows no fear of abusing the power vested in them to threaten, cajole, and steal, from those who they think they can get away with.
---- Among the reasons for Nebraska's economic strength is a long history of strong executive leadership and an independent legislature. But mainly these factors exist because we have an inquiring public that demands to know how tax dollars are spent. That's called accountability, and it was the inspiration behind my effort to create NebraskaSpending.com, a searchable, public database that discloses every aspect of state government spending. By allowing the public to examine how its money is spent, we are equipping Nebraskans with great tools to hold their government accountable.
Kentucky, Missouri and other states also have established, or are establishing, similar Web sites. These sites have cost states millions. We did ours for $38,000.
----
Nebraska sets a great example to follow when it comes to open government. While what they did did not specifically cover the format of said documents they did present expenditures in a method by which citizens of their state and others can see where the money is going. That is far more important to me than what format the information is in.
Look, presentation is key, not the format of which it is stored. Yes, it would good if the data was stored in a truly neutral format it does guarantee access to it or easy access.
So, quit banging your own drum when you don't even know the tune being played.
I am so tired of you "Bush stole the election freaks". Any excuse to ignore the fact that the person whose views you supported was not accepted by the majority. So how does the 2008 election get a pass? Is it only because the person you wanted to win did so?
Really, I want to know, is it only a problem when you lose?
because in my cousin's good old hometown of Chicago a paper trail never stopped anyone. Hell electronic voting has been a travesty to some counties here in Georgia because voter fraud became difficult under the new system. Until they figured out that good old paper fraud was possible with absentee ballots.
Paper trail, I want an national repository for all votes immediately.
is spinning up or co-opting something similar to wiki leaks. We can get the text of most the bills passed in PDF and maybe in other forms. It would be difficult but I think challenging them is the best route. Using this site they get a cop-out. Some will claim it is better than nothing but that isn't true, they will hide behind a guise of transparency without giving any. Oh it might be there but there are other routes to get it. Why are we trusting them to do this?
Heck, I would love to see every Congressman's page on Wikipedia updated with all the earmarks for their districts and states and their vote on the bill which funded them. Try it and it won't stick because it will be irrelevant which unfortunately the view too many people take.
The biggest issue other than getting the information in the first place is creating a process to break it out and categorize it properly. Then backing it up with a real search engine. The first and foremost rule must be that it is not under the moderation of a government entity. The amounts of money they are spending is criminal and since we can no longer rely on the press to call them out it becomes the duty of the community to do so.
but if you want a write later file system shouldn't it be restricted to hardware that can preserve it?
I understand that doing writes immediately when requested leads to performance degradation but that is why business systems which defer writes to disk only do so when the hardware can guarantee it. In other words, we have a battery backed cache, if the battery is low or nearing end of life the cache is turned off and all writes are made when the data changes.
Trying to make performance gains to overcome limitations of the hardware never wins out.
if I don't have to go I am not going. Call my faith in question all you want if that makes you more comfortable with your lack of faith. Really the "bash believer orgies" that occur here anytime something like this comes up are at times hilarious and other times they are depressing. Do some people really need to find, invent, whatever, flaws in others to feel good? This is like the study where they found people would give up money if it meant people better off had to lose more.
Our we that selfish we have to jump up and down, break out the balloons and confetti, anytime we can find fault with someone else?
I have the same mindset as my grandfather... I am not going till I have done everything I can reasonably do so. Sorry, far from lack of faith it is the expression of faith. Why would God want you to give up? Who wants a quitter? Go read the Bible and understand the mindset, nothing about faith is easy. Nothing about living is easy. I was raised to not give up, do it myself, and so on. I am sure quite a few others were raised the same. My beliefs and the way I live my life come from my faith, others may come from their upbringing which does not involve faith in God. So what? The end result is the same, we have our lives and to live them to their fullest is to try anything we can to live.
Just quit the relishing the hope of find fault with those believe, it really is immature and only cements the belief of those who believe that your seriously lacking something... something like faith... either in your beliefs or lack there of.
So the big companies are probably getting a better return on their investment. They have the money to let you know they have a game to sell. They have a track record, they have the names, and they really do put forward good quality games with a lot of content.
The cost of breaking into the big time, and most indie games I try would get lambasted for lack of content if a major released them - let alone some of the damn buggy ones I bought, is money. The problem I see is for them getting themselves picked up by a big enough distributor to get their name out there without attracting the attention of one of the big time developers who either tries to buy them outright or squash them with similar products.
Using Intel's 4500 series? OK, so graphics are not its forte.
It actually cost more than the Air and gives less power? Processor speeds are lackluster as well.
You just have to hate Apple to buy this over the Air. I am not a fanboi of Apple, I do have an iMac (7600gt variety) and a Touch, but damn I always thought Apple notebooks overpriced cases with average internals...
So what happened? What are they truly aiming at? This new laptop of theirs is practically a sales pitch for the Air.
Now, if it started at 1299 then it might be worth looking at...
Sorry, but I really don't understand how this shipped at its price point, especially with such a weak feature set compared to its obvious competition. Slower processors, 1/3rd the speed in graphics, oh I will just stop there.
Oh, Blu-Ray, well it has something at least I cannot do on an Apple...
Great, I am going to have to check myself in at Apple's Fanboi Anonymous group after posting this.
Yeah I will accept that some of the safety features may lead "some" to think they can drive harder are more risky than before but I put most risk on the fact too many believe they can use a cellphone without diminishing their driving ability. The biggest threat out there is the cell phone occupied driver. I still see them slip off the road, tailgate, run red lights, and weave.
Until the car drives itself allowing such distractions will undo any advances in safe driving. Simply put, if your on the phone your not focused on driving and moving sixty or so miles an hour; slower as well; requires your attention. Driving should not be the distraction.
what exactly is too keep me coming back? Rubber dinosaurs? I liked a few of their movies, mainly their take on Wizard of Oz was refreshing if a bit quirky, at least it wasn't a rehash. It was fun to watch.
If it had not been for BSG I doubt I would know what is on their channel after they canceled Stargate.
Sorry, I don't a commercial laden channel of crap, I got a few dozen more of these as it is. Their popularity isn't great because they cancel what people watch and load it all up with so many commercials you just have to TIVO it so you can fast forward through to get that 2 hour show back down to the 90 minutes it used to be. Weren't these the guys who ran original star trek episodes uncut but took 90 minutes to do it?
I am still waiting to see what Bill Clinton's official position will be.
If anything it has already been proven his vetting service needs a lot of help. I really don't understand why people expected it to really change. He has no real experience so he is going to have to heavily rely on the advice of others who probably already know what they want.
I am giving him one more chance that is on reforming our education system. Considering he signed the bill which essentially ends the district's voucher program I don't think much of whats going to happen.
to toss in the fact that if they aren't getting what they think is fair it probably is discrimination because some colleges seem to instill that into their students. It works especially well on women and minorities. It really blows my mind that something as simple as assigning a task within a big project to a fairly new hire could actually have had "Racial overtones" to it. Sorry, but the "Junior" in your title is an indication of your experience and not a slight... working on the maintenance of new programs isn't because we doubt your skills because your a women it is because it has to be done and your the bottom of the seniority pile and have yet to prove yourself... and your not getting far fast with a chip on your shoulder.
I only blame TV/Movies so far. Some of the ideas they bring from school is what really blows my mind, let alone their politics, their ability to solve all the worlds problems but not a simple data mapping error, their ability to churn out text to their friends but not code.
My favorite is always when they discover all the deductions in their new "big" job and are pissed. Throw in having to contribute to their health care and retirement and I really wonder what some places feed them.
Fortunately the majority, like 90%, work out just fine. We have had a few downright problem children that are unfortunately going to afflict a few more businesses before they grow up.
Its not fair all the times, but its life, not because of who you are.
and yes... sometimes you have to stay late, get a tivo.
isn't exactly a petty detail. Granted I don't hold a lofty title like CIO but I damn well know what all my directs are doing. If I didn't I would not hold down the job I do. I even have to keep tabs on what the other guys outside of my direct control are up to. Plus some of what his directs are accused of isn't exactly something that just goes by without some questions arising somewhere down the line.
You also don't take leaves of absence. Just what in the hell is wrong with Obama's vetting process?
I honestly don't see how anyone can take his "change" seriously with so many past Clinton officials on his staff and in key positions. His whole administration has been screaming "beltway" and "politics as usual" way too often. I was willing to give the guy a chance; didn't vote for him or McCain; but damn he just has a stink about him of Washington.
of people are not responsible for their actions. Sorry, yeah he might have been embarrassed but still he was wrong. More than likely he told others he was leaving on his own recourse or that some PHB fired him because he was too smart, too good.
What is it with people owning up to what they do? I thought we left behind that in elementary school, that idea that "not me" did it.
it is a burden on future generations.
I don't see how funding for a short term any job is stimulus, it is simply a dog and pony show for the ignorant.
Had to laugh when Obama flew around on AF1 to tout 25 and 65 odd jobs - government jobs funded for ONE YEAR only.
Stimulus, maybe only for politician poll numbers
are we to assume other cycles were similarly spaced?
Really, they jumped the shark a few too many times and did a SF board fan end instead of a sci fi fanatic end
I do agree with your assessment.
