Are you licensed by the state? Does your profession have a code of conduct? Are there standardized tests for entering the profession? Is there an accepted body of knowledge?
Sadly, the answer is no to all of these. The person who cuts your hair has more certification than the person who writes pacemaker software.
So the gold vault at thee New York Federal Reserve is underground. When I was there piles of gold had little pieces of paper on top saying who owned them. I wonder what would happen if a bunch of water rushed down there... Hopefully the massive door is waterproof.
Let's not forget that FISA allowed warrants to be granted *retroactively*. So before this law there was *nothing* slowing down or preventing the government from wiretapping suspected terrorists here in the US. Can someone remind me why we need this law?
Oh please. Romney isn't a villain. How about Cheney... He set up his own office in the CIA to cherry-pick intelligence to drive us into war. In his view president == king. I'm sure he encouraged Bush to issue "signing statements" basically overturning law.
Instead of assuming that they don't know how to do a web search, isn't it more reasonable to assume that they did it, found 100 references to metro, and decided that they were distinct enough not to be a problem? Remember when Pilot came out, got sued by the Pilot pen company, and became PalmPilot and then just Palm?
I'm no Microsoft apologist, but let's assume that the company isn't full of complete idiots.
Don't forget it *punishes* the company, even if people don't get a dime. In fact for some things like pollution I'd rather they just take the award money and burn it, thereby increasing the value of everyone's money equally.
Javascript would be an obvious choice. It's a sucky language, but would dovetail nicely with what you already know. Then you could switch to PHP on the server side, then Python or Ruby.
Yes, class action lawsuits don't help the victims. Neither does putting murderers in jail. But the goal is to give people and businesses a reason to think twice before committing a despicable act.
Right. Let's pretend we take all the money from Microsoft to settle the class-action lawsuit, then burn it. No one in the class gets a dime, but the company is punished and everyone benefits equally through deflation of the dollar. That's still worth doing.
We did the math in our electromagnetics class where we compared the energy delivered to a person standing near a high-voltage power line. It was less than the thermal energy of a human body.
Everyone knows that in order to spy on every conversation there is, you just do it. You don't need any legal basis. Instead you claim your executive authority to protect the people from terrorists. If a whistleblower or leaker reveals what's going on, you tell The People about how you're listening to conversations involving The Terrorists -- being very careful to never say "only The Terrorists". That will placate the people, while you ram through the laws needed to make your actions legal, which is easy since no lawmaker wants to help terrorists. If someone mentions that you *already* had the authority to wiretap terrorists, and to even get a warrant after-the-fact, just keep repeating about how you need to move even faster to catch terrorists and need to bypass the judicial system.
The Walking Dead is another one. Killing zombies is subservient to the characters and story, and the comic book art suits it well.
You don't need reams of paper. Just do about 50 pages, and repeatedly flip through those 50.
So basically he's reguritating a plot point from Black Ops 2? Except with high falutin' language?
So if an eagle catches fish, and the catfish catches birds to eat, who wins?

Everyone knows the time crystals have a 4-sided shape.
It's not this one?

Where do I sign up?

Will cockpits now have a USB charging port? If so can they help a guy out?
Hold long will the (hu)man hold down the proud black fly?

Romney doesn't even come close.

I for one am shocked... shocked... that any cattle eat grass these days. I guess ethanol really is putting the screws to cattle farmers.

Texas environmentalists... Isn't that an oxymoron?
I'm surprised no one has already said this: get a master's in CS, then get a software engineering job.

This is why I read Slashdot. I don't know what any of it means, but I do know I wouldn't read it elsewhere. :)
Because Tor wasn't slow enough already...
I've wondered if this was some sort of deal Microsoft made with Intel to avoid retribution for WoA.
