Are there cheaper mass transit alternatives? Of Course.
Do many areas of the United States need better mass transit systems? Yes.
Do Americans need better, less costly and less stressfull commute options? Absolutely.
Should Americans be forced to cram themselves into crowded, polluted, crime-ridden (tho less so now) major cities just to satisfy urbanite arrogance towards the automobile? Bite me.
Read that law again. Third party collectors can call (communicate with you, which is why they hang up if they don't get you) you once per day. You have to inform them in writing (postal mail, folks) to stop.
First party collectors are not bound by the postal "do not call" rule.
Also, they can call your cell phone all they want if they don't "know" it's a cell phone. The "do not incurr charges for the debtor" rule only refers to intentional charges.
... that symantec's fixblast doesnt' remove the progenitor of msblast.exe, the spybot worm and it's payload: msconfig35.exe, the 4 random-character copies of msconfig35.exe, webdav.exe, or the tftpXXXX copies.
I've seen these files on every machine i've cleaned msblast off of, they appeared on these machines last saturday (in every case), and norton anti-virus only sees webdav.exe, not the rest.
EVEN WITH fixblast.exe, this saga ain't even close to over yet.
I discovered spybot on a friends computer last saturday. It appears to be a "prequel" to our friend slammer here. My guess is that spybot created a number of staging hosts in order to quickly propagate slammer yesterday afternoon.
However, there are alot of nasty little payloads that spybot brings in. I'd recommend googling for msconfig35.exe for removal instructions for the spybot payload.
I think people wouldn't be dropping galeon if they core team were vigilant with maintaining the UI from version to version.
For instance, I used to be able to have my tabs on the bottom, then i couldn't, then i could, and now i can't again. I vastly prefer galeon's tabs to mozilla's, being one of those features that keeps me with galeon even now, but i'm sick of this on again , off again feature.
Another on again, off again feature I like was the ability to right click on the handle of one of my custom toolbars and opening the entire folder in tabs. They recently re-added this feature in the bookmarks menu, but I really miss it on the toolbar itself.
Frankly, if there were another browser that had a similar level of control of bookmarks and custom toolbars, I'd switch to it in a second. Nothing else comes quite that close to galeon's level of customizibility.
I just wish Galeon wasn't so flighty in it's feature set.
As a conservative, like I am, you should know that everyone to the left of us, including most Republicans, regards "Conservative" and "Republican" to be entirely synonymous.
He used to routinely spew is leftist garbage in his postings, and you don't see much from him anymore, do ya?
That's not a bad idea, really

IIRC, (and it's been a while since I read Roman history)
the Roman Senate did not "make" or "write" laws. Instead they "discovered" them, the theory being that through study and observation of society, imutable rules of civil order could be gleaned.
It's no mistake that Common Sense and the concepts of Common Law tend to be so similar, because law should not only make sense, but also reflect the needs of civil order and society.
I think an interesting "distributed" project would be to pour over the mountain of legal codes (which tend to read similarly to most programming languages, imo) and build a new "kernel" of law that makes common sense.
Another thing learned from the early 1900's socialist/communist movement is blatant propaganda and using "model" villages to demonstrate how great things are. This is what's going on here.
I have a couple of teacher friends, in Westbrook and Windham (2 towns near Portland and near Freeport) who've indicated to me the complete failure of the laptop program, due to vandalism, theft, accidents, cracking, and neglect.
This story is no better then those "perfect" North Korean model villages they have cramed up against the DMZ.
It doesn't f'n matter if Maine's shitty schools churn out kids who know how to use computers, when the state does everything it can to chase good people and businesses out of state with prohibitive taxes (Maine is the highest tax and most socialized state in the US).
Also, all they're going to accomplish by training tech saavy kids is an even faster flight out of this state.
Those bastards tricked my last company to come to Portland, and now that I'm jobless, there aren't any jobs here 'cept those McJobs for the tourist season. I'm not getting any bites nationally either because everyone wants local talent these days.
So all I see out of those laptops is $37M headed to Cupertino and out of Maine, in addition to the long-term benefits of faster out-of-state flight as soon as these kids graduate!
They should've spent that money encouraging business development thru lower taxes.
What are the chances you guys are going to bring in experienced PHP developers? or are you guys going to simply insist your dev staff add it to their repertoire.
I'm seeing lots of companies moving to PHP based online development, but rarely are they aquiring PHP developers in doing so.
The right to distribute is given to the company using/licencing the GPL'd software, NOT to the lowly coder who's using the code in whatever product that company is building.
Well my /. ID is four digits!!!
Nyah!
Another good reason not to get into credit card debt in college...
bad credit = no clearances.
If i could get a clearance, you wouldn't be able to STOP me from relocating to San Diego.
Is maglev an economically a dumb idea? Yes.

i MIGHT consider switching from galeon once i figure out how to put the tabs on the bottom where they belong!!!
I use Vonage, turned off Verizon forever, and I am Spartacus ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H a geek too!
Oh yes they can call you.

it's getElementById() if you capitalize ID, it won't work...
went thru a good 2 hrs of hell with that one recently.

I don't know about the environment, but I always think of car insurance when using a gecko-based browser.

Yes I'm bitching... I hate being unemployed.
but then you can't be called an engineer!
I was two years old as well and I distinctly remember both waiting in line to see star wars and seeing star wars. They were among my first memories.
;-)
Ha!
Please be sure to turn in your geek card before you leave, thank you and drive thru.
That's easy.
The right to distribute is given to the company using/licencing the GPL'd software, NOT to the lowly coder who's using the code in whatever product that company is building.
A) It is.
B) Burn in hell you whiny-ass uber-pussy pinko tree hugging porcine-orgasm-inducing communist
well all of our staffing needs have been for graphic artists (which portland has buckets of) and customer service reps.
;-)
Besides, this is a one geek shop, and i knew when they asked me to move that they would have extreme difficulty replacing me if they tried....
