hmm.. all this talk about gills makes me think about the evolution special on the discovery channel i watched the other night about how humans evolved from Water apes
their target audience doesnt have 50 bucks plus 10 bucks a month to fork over just to play the sims, on top of that, I don't think anyone would pay that.
The only place where I saw a scheme like this work was with microsofts "fighter ace II" or whatever where they gave you the game with a demo for free and for 9.95 you could play on their servers in this global aero-battle arena.
The folks at EA should have done the same. Give the game away for near-free and then get people on the subscriptions.
i dont think this would be the case, they do data and television services over cable lines and the two systems don't interfere with one another..i would think the power lines would be similar.
I can see it now, the new threat will be al queda cells training to get comp. sci degrees in US universities.
it's scary that it has come to this, I guess the real question is to find out exactly which parts are the flawed ones and start reverse engineering them and replacing them with secured versions.
One thing MS seemed to overlook is the added advantage of open sourcing.. you get access to an entire world of programmers who will help create a secure distriution (see also Linux).
After reading that court transcript in full, it's scary how much weight his website writings had in regards to the way the judge percieved his character as a "flight risk". I'm certainly not saying he wasn't guilty of other things but it seems that the defending attorney definately had a point when she said that he hadn't acted in violence at all.
Every time one of these web site related cases arises it's as if the ideas of free speech and first amendment rights are evolving into nothing more than an illusion which, when extrapolated further, could also describe American democracy itself.
I'm not anti-american by any means, i'm just saying people need to give these kinds of issues more attention.
just log into excite.com 's games section.. they have "intermission" quite frequently..of course.. their version of intermission is disabling the game, switching to a full ad, and then returning after a minute.
As scary as it is, it works.
burlee.com is even worse, if you read the fine print on their unlimited space and transfer plan you really end up getting only about 14 megs and 3 gigs of bandwith. They scammed me with this (250 for one month of hosting) and many others (at least 3 that I know of) for over $1,000 each for one month of hosting.
They try to redefine the term unlimited and are a major scam.
but i think of fight club.
all we need now is for all the high school kids to move to the bay area to add to the pool of overqualified out of work techies.
Dont overlook a college education or you'll end up like those whiny guys on craigslist.

just my two cents.

I'm no expert of course, i'm still an undergrad.
I agree, sf is in desperate need of something.. anything..
The high priced sbc global dsl is a rip off.
i never got kicked, it worked perfectly. I would just set it to some random share size like 47.3GB and it worked like a charm.
get that dc share hack program and set it to fake 200gb's. thats what i do.
i can only imagine the horror if everyone had personal submarines.. not because of the dangers, but because of the regulations..
hell, they banned the segway in SF already.
50% of /. posts are duplicates
I refused to upgrade my account,
the new contract prohibits the running of any kind of server on their service.
It wont be long before they start portscanning people and sending off nasty letters like @home did back in the days.
I really dont see what the problem is, they limit your upstream data to around 12/Ks. It's not like anything could clog the network.
"Mr. Christmas said he didn't even know what email was. Obviously a PC user.
If PC users are so dumb, why are you writing a story about you shipping a $3000 laptop COD.
Moron.
i could be next..

sierra has already been doing this for years with team fortress 2.

k-pax was a cross between bicentennial man, patch adams, girl interrupted, and every retarded robin williams film since good morning vietnam.
it was entirely way too over dramatized and hollywood-like for me.
very good point.
This is the equivalent of suing home depot for selling hammers.. after all.. hammers cause accidents.
aspiring, or inspiring? inspiring text messages I can do, aspiring ones take a little longer.

you're not kidding..from what I gather they don't have a positive ID yet.. it could be a large rock or just some martians playing games.
nerds dont watch movies, we download them and burn them.
