If you're lucky enough to subscribe to Daily Variety magazine you might have gotten a copy. Fox included a DVD of "OMWF" in an issue about a month or so ago. The DVD does contain the full 'Director's Cut' of the ep.
Copies on eBay range from $50-$200. Good luck and watch out for VCDs
I was going through my CDs the other day and realized that I had purchased a full third of them (~200) because I had been exposed to the music on the internet first.
The only thing that is a pain in the ass is ripping my old discs. I'm only up to the "Gs" as of right now.
Crikey kid. Calm down. The original poster said/if/ it was a PC game it would be an add on pack. It's not. It's a console game. We all know that.
What he was saying is that the game will have minorly (if at all) upgraded graphics/sound/what not. Don't believe everything you read in a press release.
Sony didn't need to drop prices earlier. They were selling pretty much every PS2 they could get out into the retail system around xmas. Remember that there was a shortage of xboxes then too. Quite frequently shoppers who wanted a video game system for the holiday had a choice between a PS2 and a PS2 because of the relative scarcity of xbox and gamecube units.
They don't want JoeShithead browsing through their archives and using up their bandwith. They are going to turn adcritic into a service. And they will charge accordingly. Agencies will pay because it will be a useful resource. No more waiting for two days to see the latest commercial that is being test marketed in just a few DMAs. We can have it NOW. This coupled with CMR will let us know what they are running when they ran it and how much the spent to air it. This is cool.
Raise your had if you know what a DMA and CMR are.
Currently my clients pay upwards of $10M a pop to get people to comment on their commercials.
Is this a lot of money? Yes.
Is this a lot of money to someone that has a $25MM advertising budget? No.
There is definitely a difference in having multiple focus groups tell you what they like and don't like about a commercial. Subtle nuances that some people might glaze over might really tweak off a bunch of other people. Can a 1-10 "hot or not" scale duplicate this? No. Would an advertiser expose its creative to competitors before it airs? No.
With all due respect, I'll listen to you guys when it comes to tech stuff but when it comes to advertising leave it to the professionals.
Hell yes they're going to charge for access to the site. And agencies will pay lots of cash for a RELIABLE commercial database. Right now if we want to get a copy of a commercial on.5" or.75" tape we have to call VMS and pay $100. This will make things cheaper and easier. Let me put it this way: The new adcritc will almost be like a Commercial Napster for agencies. If VMS was the RIAA they'd be asking for legislation to put adcritc out of business.
(Insert multiple comments here about how advertising is the bane of society and how all marketing people are exactly as smart as they portray them in Dilbert cartoons)
But if HPaquard started selling only Linux they'd promptly go out of buisness. Sure they'd sell some servers but let's face it, most people into Linux build their own boxes (or buy whiteboxes) anyway. If you're smart enough to use Linux you're smart enough not to pay retail for a computer. It's as simple as that.
And I'm sure someone will spout something like, "But if HP only sold Linux then a lot of people would buy it." Bullshit. A lot of people would buy a computer from them without reading the specs then bitch that they couldn't install their copy of office 97
Warner has been really shitty about releasing their TV properties on DVD. Which is surprising because they were the leaders in putting shit out on DVD in the beginning.
Take their releases of Friends for instance (Shut up, I know it sucks. Yes I own them). Instead of releasing full seasons they have put out 2 lame 'best of' collections.
Perhaps they think that they can make more money off of the syndication rights rather than the DVD releases. They need to take a lesson from Fox. They know how to do DVD right. X-Files, Buffy, & The Simpsons have all been top notch releases.
You might classify me as the 'rampaging collector' type, but I love DVD TV collections. Sitting on my shelf I have Sopranos, Simpsons, X-Files, Sex and the City, Friends, Robotech and The Awful Truth (Buffy season 1 comes on Tuesday). I would love to add more to that collection. I want to see '24', the Tick animated series and other such things out there.
I'm not against 'piracy' per se. I've bought literally 100x more CDs in the past two years because of Napster/Morpheus than I would have bought with out them. TV is different becuse you can see TNG episodes every day if you want to but Trek fans are rabid. Anyway I'm rambling so....
I highly doubt that Yupps are going to move down to 51st and Cermak just so they can save $30 a month on their DSL bill. I know I wouldn't. My personal saftey is worth much, much more than that. Gentrification is happening, it's just happening slowly. The south loop is just being developed. Cabrini Green is slowly being torn down (Now that is PRIME real estate). Living west of Western avenue can still be sort of sketchy. Don't even talk about Uptown. You couldn't pay me to live there.
I'm quite happy paying my $50/month for Earthlink and living in my nice Wicker Park condo thank you very much.
I agree completely with your points. But the artists that I know (not dropping any names) realize most of what was stated above. They end up making most of their money on tours and they know this.

Why does eveyone automatically assume that any level of fame automatically equates to great wealth? I've never quite understood that one.
Did you even look at his website? That's some fucking scary right wing shit. I can't even believe he brings himself to post here. Must be infatuated with his low UID.
Optiplexes are some of the most overpriced shitty computers out there. I should know, I've got one at work. Underpowered is putting it nicely. I got a celery 466 w/ 64mb not even two years ago. I had to slap in some more ram at my own expense just so it wouldn't crash with word, excel and two mozilla windows open at the same time. (Of course that could have been the Mozilla factor but...).
The sad thing is that our IT guy knows better too. He's just to lazy to go and get 10 machines custom made for 1/2 the price. At least he knows that I know they're crap. Got a 19" monitor out of that. Everyone else is running on old 15"s.
I've got one of the IBM keychain dealies. It's only 8mb, but it's actually quite handy for data transfers. My parents have a slow modem (as opposed to a fast one? anyway) at their house and no CD burner. Sometimes I have to get some work done there and the 8mb of the IBM fits all of my Excel sheets just fine.
While 8mb has been fine for the 6 months I've had the thing, of course these new releases will force me to upgrade.
On thing though, its a serious Pain In The Ass to try and plug one of these things in blind. I've got a USB hub at home, but they really aren't all that common yet.

Yea, seriously. At least if you get shot with a.50cal you're pretty much dead and not in a lot of pain. Instead of, say, getting shot in the stomach with a 9mm. That would hurt like a bitch.

I'm an idiot. I didn't see the link. Thanks.
This is the third time I tried to post this because the slash filters punished me for being a good typist.
What platform? Where can I find it? I looked on eBay and found nothing, so I assume it's not a packaged game.
What is this "Combat Mission" game you speak of? It sounds interesting. TBS games are my favorite, but there is that 'aftificiality' you mention.
A Big Wheel.
Yep, one of those plastic trycycles. Loads of fun. Use an empty 12 pack of beer for a helmet. Put a skateboard under the bike to 'turbocharge' it.
Ditto man.

That all comes back to the old saying (I'm sure I'm butchering it):
Any one who wants to be a politician, shouldn't.
Thank you. I was just about to post asking if anyone had a copy of "Quantum Gravity for Dummies".
Great, now Hungry Minds is going to sue me for Copywrite infringement.

It's called Phantasy Star Online. It did (and still does) quite well IIRC.

It seems to work just like my IBM Disk On Key dealie. It works fine with ME/2K/XP but it did come with a CD-Rom with drivers for '98 on it.
Kind of a pain in the ass if you want to use it with a lot of different '98 computers, but it works perfectly for my applications.
