  1. Re:RSS anyone? on Slashdot Goes Political: Announcing politics.slashdot.org · · Score: 1

All Slashdot sections have one, just put the section name before slasdot.org. So the politics feed is:
    http://politics.slashdot.org/index.xml

However, Slasdot has a policy where it bans you for awhile if you grab the feed more than once an hour (I think?) and this applies to all sections... so if you get the main feed and the politics one, you're screwed. That system doesn't really work too well, huh?

Come on, this is just a thinly veiled attempt at making an old-people-free lane. Since old people generally aren't heavy computer users, let alone heavy eBayers, this lane will be regulated to the young and fast! We've all dreamed of it, and now its here!

  9. I love The Sims... on Sim-Dud? · · Score: 1

I'm a big Sims fan, I bought all the expansion packs, made skins, etc. But I havn't bought The Sims Online yet, and I'm not sure I will. I don't have a lot of time on my hands, since I work full time and go to school full time (and I post on Slashdot.) What I liked about the Sims is you could basically play it from beginning to "end" (meaning you got bored with the character and hit the top) in just a few hours a day for about a week. I'd do this, then stop playing for a few weeks, then create a new character and house and start over. I play way too little to pay $10 a month for something that really doesn't offer this same experience, and I think most "Sims" players are the same, casual gamers.

Hopefully they'll be releasing their next system at the SAME TIME as the PS2. This is the key. If they build a quality product (like they have with the GameCube) consumers will compare the two systems and decide which one fits their needs.

I know a lot of people waited until all the systems were out (or at least until the PS2 was released) before purchasing a new one, since you want to see what the other companies bring to the table. I think that's what hurt the Dreamcast. On the other hand, people aren't going to wait 2 years to see what else is out there which was the case between Dreamcast and GameCube/XBox.

Have you seen Animal Crossing? You can play a number of NES games via emulator, and download them down to your Gameboy. Also, with the eReader you can buy packs of cards and swipe them to play NES classics.

Of course, their stance isn't hypocritical. They haven't given up on these old games, they're still making money off of them! Why would they want people downloading Donkey Kong for free when you can still buy the eReader cards for $5 a pop?
