Evolution is not for the die-hard linux user who's been using linux for years and thinks X is for wussies.
Evolution, and Ximian Desktop for that matter are for those individuals out there that make up, oh, probably 65% to 75% of the computer user market. You know, the people you love to bash on.
Computers aren't just a hobbiest or an uber-Geek domain. There are accounting, sales, marketing departments out there that require something butt simple. If you give them somethink like Pine they will Whine forever because Outlook was so much better. If you give them Evolution, they have less to whine about because evolution is a lot like Outlook.
It's an important announcement for the rest of the world that manages large amounts of NT/2K Server Farms to support Exchange, IIS and other things and needs a business case to move. things like this help make that business case.

I'm growing tired of being protected 'for my own good'.
Looking over at CNN you see that over 100,000 people have voted that the 'new powers' of the government are not too much, while only 30K or so think they are too broad.
There are a number of Beowolf clusters produced by IBM for their customers. I helped build (build = carried servers into room and racked) one setup for in New Mexico.
However, if you look at the Top 500 Clusters Site You will see many a IBM Linux cluster on there. Specifically numbers 41, 106, and 125. There are numbers more that aren't listed on that site that are going into many a commercial account every month.
There are many a political game played when new systems are attemted to be brought in. Many times when trying to convince an account to move to a different hardware platform I've heard 'if this fails, I'll loose face' or similiar comment. Many are scared to do something different because no one has gotten fired for running Windows.
Get a clue people, everything is not a rip off of 'The Matrix'. While 'The Matrix' was one buttkicking sweet movie, every movie that comes after it can't be dissed for using technology they invented for it!
The One is a great action flick. The plot is decent, and it's fun to watch Jet Li smash a guy between to motorcycles.

Quirky is the guy that comes in, goes to his cube, and sits there staring at his screen for hours on end, eating strange combinations of food.
The 'quirky' person can also be identified by this reaction. When asked a question, they look up blankly from their CRT and stare at you, making you uncomfortable, jittery, and then they look back at their screen, type something for a bit, and then answer in a stream of conscious thought to mouth so fast you think the guru on the mountain has answered.
The guy in the article was a reject posing as a uber guru.
But that is the point! The entire point of the excercise was to show how idiotic the copyright process is!
They took something that has been available for what, 30 years? Copyrighted it as something, and now are legally right to sue anyone with that combination of numbers, or to charge a licensing fee.
I now have two Athlon systems that I've purchased this year. Guess I'll have to do my part to increase consumer again and get another one for DNETC crunching. That's all my last one is doing.
Apache runs just fine on NT, as do many other web servers such as Notes, Websphere, and others. They aren't telling everyone to dump Windows NT and IIS, just IIS.
I've always found these ideas intriguing...

I did not expect HP to go out and buy Compaq.
But is this a good thing? HP has never been a player in the corporate desktop world to the extent of the other vendors. So I see the desktop line dropping away. Being in the Intel server business I can safely say that at least in the KS/MO areas HP is not a competitor either. So there goes the Intel Server line from HP.
But, HP is a R&D company. HP has big pockets from other divisions. HP has a service arm that can execute better than Compaq's (even after aquring Digital, I'd say Compaq Destroyed Digital in their blundering of that purchase) and hasn't had a decent service arm (at least in KS/MO/OK/AR region) ever (for Intel Servers).
Should be interesting. A merger of this size should take a good 12 - 18 months, so the fallout will be a while. Wonder what the heck they're going to do. Dell is still destroying the market into a commodity driven vs. quality driven, especially in the server market.
Please ad grains of salt to the last one, I don't like Dell. I'm sure many people do, I don't.
