  1. Decentralize it on Showdown Set On Bid To Give UN Control of Internet · · Score: 1

The idea of someone "owning" the internet is pretty ridiculous. Between the IANA and maybe a revisit of the ol' DNS infrastructure guidelines, I don't think anyone globally would need to have the final say.

  2. Amazon on Hurricane Sandy Nears East Coast · · Score: 5, Funny

I'm sure it will somehow take AWS down :)

  3. Could be worse on Japan's Softbank Buying Sprint, Creating Third-Largest Global Carrier · · Score: 2

    CenturyLink could have bought them.

  4. Malazan Book of the Fallen on Ask Slashdot: What Books Have Had a Significant Impact On Your Life? · · Score: 0

I was looking to get into an epic fantasy, and I got a lot more than I asked for. Malazan is huge, and it touches on so many aspects of human nature. The series can be seen as a debate about everything, from poverty, to war, to politics... So much is touched by that book. It really gives a different viewpoint on what is really good and what is really evil. It's also jammed pack with action and intrigue. I personally hated GM's Song of Fire and Ice series (especially after book 3), and I found Malazan to be exactly what I wanted out of a fantasy epic.

  5. Keyword: Android on Samsung Creates New File System F2Fs For Linux & Android · · Score: 2, Insightful

I don't think Samsung would've created this if Android wasn't a huge driver behind their mobile success.

  6. I can no longer sit back on Russian High-Tech Export Scandal Produces 8 Arrests in Houston · · Score: 4, Funny

and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious microchips.

  7. I blame the ISPs on IPv6 Must Be Enabled On All US Government Sites By Sunday · · Score: 4, Interesting

A lot of the government offices will face challenges with IPv6 connectivity to the internet because a very large number of US ISPs are not IPv6 ready. Especially up here in midwest, you mention "are you IPv6 ready?" and your ISP sales rep gives you a blank look and asks what you're talking about. Maybe if the governments push for this at the ISP level we might see it filter down.

  8. Why Are They Jerks? on What Should Start-Ups Do With the Brilliant Jerk? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Some types of autism or personality disorders make people come across as "jerks" to other more extroverted people. If someone is just quiet or short with you, it doesn't necessarily mean they're a jerk.

  9. Rolling Remotely? on Suitable Technology's Telepresence Robot Lets You Roll Remotely · · Score: 1

How would a robot assist me while doing ecstasy out in the wilderness?

  10. The Only People Who Benefit From This on Plans For Widespread Monitoring of Communication In Europe Revealed · · Score: 4, Insightful

Are consultants and hardware manufacturers. The government has no idea what to do with this information, and its going to spend an enormous amount of money for what will end up being a data vault that is locked away because its too big of a failure to admit they were wrong in the first place to attempt this.

  11. Get your head out of your ass on Ask Slashdot: How To Ask College To Change Intro To Computing? · · Score: 2, Insightful

For most of the country an intro to Office 2010 is all they need to know about computers. College should prepare them for future employment. If you're complaining about other alternatives, realize the course wasn't targeted at you.

  12. I don't get the point of Kickstarter on When Kickstarter Projects Go Missing · · Score: 4, Insightful

Call me a scrooge, but the idea of donating money to projects that will eventually charge you to purchase the product they produce seems ridiculous to me. On top of that, there is no guarantee that the project you donate to will see the light of day. Honestly, can someone tell me why this is such an appealing option?

  13. No one on Google Stops Offering Free Music Service In China · · Score: 1

  22. Push for Secure SMTP on NSA Official Disputes Chief's Claim That Agency Doesn't Collect American Data · · Score: 1

SMTPS needs to be adopted as the replacement for traditional SMTP. The fact that it's not could be coincidental or outside influences. All you'd really have to do is put it in as a requirement for PCI/HIPAA and the majority of big business would be forced to adopt it.

  23. Evolution of Pop Music on Study Finds New Pop Music Does All Sound the Same · · Score: 1

Wasn't this inevitable? It's way cheaper for "concept" artists to use tried and true melodies than really break the mold with something new. Who would want to invest in crap like that?

  24. Waste of Time on The Rise of the Junkweb and Why It's So Awesome · · Score: 2, Funny
