the difference is tape formats get worn out from normal use. a dvd only gets damaged if you're being careless with it.
and maybe i'm wrong, but if a d-vhs did get worn out, it wouldn't just start degrading in quality, it'd be perfect until it got to the point where it couldn't read it at all, and then be all static in the unreadable areas.
Although you do have a good point, I think you're asking for too much. Most high schools don't just give the sports teams a bunch of money, the team members have to do fundraising to get the money to buy new things. Why should the nerds and geeks get the money handed to them while the jocks and cheerleaders have to work for it?
Oh, and the star athletes are usually the ones with charisma and they'll probably end up being that boss everyone has that has no idea about anything related to the job but still has control over you, the educated, talented "nerd."

Like others have said, if this is the kind of game you want, play Serious Sam, or go back to the original Doom games. Doom I and II were the first PC games I really got into, I loved them. And I couldn't be more pleased with the direction Doom III is going in. I'm not looking for the same old Doom with prettier graphics, I want something new, thank goodness id understands that.
The only people who I could see protesting the cameras are people who like to go over the speed limit and speed up to see if they can make it through the yellow. Personally I slow down at a traffic light, even if it's green I still slow down a bit. It's not a privacy issue at all. Changing the length of the yellow so they can catch more people, that's just stupid and makes the intersection more dangerous.
i doubt we will see the dozens of monsters. if you want gameplay like that, Serious Sam 1 and 2 can satisfy your needs. from what i've heard doom iii looks to be a "make you crap your pants" kind of game. which is fine by me!
the guy is obviously speaking out of his ass, since he's boycotting hollywood he hasn't seen the film and cannot judge it without sounding like an idiot.
well the category isn't "best independent foreign film" it's just "best foreign film." i don't see what difference it makes where they get their money, it's about where the movie is made.
ok, let me ask you something. did you see all of the nominees in the best foreign film category? if not then I hardly think you have the right to say that Amelie deserved it more than the others. If so, well sorry to tell you, the academy awards aren't all about the "best" movie, because obviously no one can say what's best, it's a matter of opinion.
if you care about box office earnings and all that crap.. this site has a nice comparison of lord of the rings to harry potter to phantom menace to titanic
well as long as nvidia keeps using unified drivers i dont think the second problem will ever be a problem. i'm still using a TNT 1, but i use the same drivers the GeForce 3 Ti500 uses.
yeah.. damn them for providing us with millions of files and expecting something for all that bandwidth! what were they thinking.. you can't just go around asking people to register with you, just because you would have taken a nose dive a long time ago without it!
Colobot claims to teach you the basics of programming through a game, and I haven't gotten very far in it yet, but it seems cool. You have to program robots to go do tasks that you need done.

Well it doesn't have to be an Aliens© TC. Like Gloom for Quake II, it was sort of the same idea as an Alien tc, but they didn't use any official alien things, so they didn't have legal problems, but still had the cool creepy gameplay.
It's more than a tech demo for me. I enjoy id's games, not just their engines.

It sounds to me like you're just an old gamer stuck in his old generation of games. I'm sorry to hear it.
That's great, but what they really need to do is to find a way to keep the fruit flies away from my monitor!
Why was this even posted on slashdot?

yes but getting scratched is a result of carelesness... tape gets worn out from regular playing.. no matter how careful you are
Pressed discs (the kind that movies come on) last longer than you will, anywhere from 50 to 300 years.
DVD-R and DVD+R discs are expected to last anywhere from 40 to 250 years, about as long as CD-R discs.
The erasable formats (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW) are expected to last from 25 to 100 years.

Wow..another tweak3d article that explains the painfully obvious and manages to drag it out to 3 or 4 pages, which of course have banner ads on them.
i dunno.. maybe it's not that obvious to someone.
actually the arm they threw in at the end was the arm they got from the lab.. the arm that got ripped off Arnie is still in the facotry somewhere.

well..uh.. it starts about 20 seconds faster, is that worth upgrading? (NO!)
