As far as I understand, fair use restricts vendors from making a medium that can not be copied for backup purposes. On the other hand, you have the DMCA which states that you can have copy protection on a medium, but that it is illegal to circumvent that protection.
So let's put it in layment terms. You can have copy protection that can be broken, but never tested, since that would be breaking the law.
Lady's and Gentlemen, I do believe its time we start shooting lawyers in mass numbers.......
Yea, just what I want. The first time windows blue screens while you're connected, you have a permanent BSOD picture in your vision. There's also the problem of Linux kernel compatiblity. I figure kernel v.3.0 should be compat.
I have to hand it to M$ on this one. Having your old hardware and personal software put out to thousands of BEGINNER computer users(ie. children), as a form of punishment for bullying the entire tech sector is just brilliant. Who ever thought of this one needs a fucking raise.
Its to bad someone this smart works for M$ though.
Someone explain to me how a nationwide government network, PHYSICALLY seperated from the "Internet/public ISPs/and population in general", is unsecure? With the exception to the human factor, this is theoretically possible. And for all realistic purposes, I support this move by the government.
"AK47. When you absolutely positively have to kill every mother fucker in the place. Accept no substitutes."
This makes a load of sense doesn't it. Lets "protect" our citizens from terrorists by taking away their access to government information. This type of knee-jerk reaction has been tried in the past and HAS NEVER and WILL NEVER WORK!
About a year ago, I was purusing(?) the web and came across a bunch of active DARPA projects, specifically biological, technological, and military. I was blown away at the detail with which they described and outlined the project, its goals, and its overall implementation. I emailed the DARPA contact for questions concerning DARPA projects and asked him why this information was available on the web, and much less to the public at all (I know that may be a little naive, but there are some things I think the public doesn't need to know). Anyways, I recieved an email back stating that due to international security agreements or some shit, that we must provide information about our military projects (DARPA) to our allies over seas. That also meant it was provided for our enemies as well.
I have many mixed feelings when it comes to our governments role in the global stage. This example above, is one instance in which I totally and completely disagree. This information should be kept within the confines of the intelligence community(contradiction). PERIOD. Information about landmarks, geographical data and so forth I could care less about. If you remove the ability for terrorists to physically attack us within our countries border, what does it matter what information is out there?

So who's gonna be the first to put Linux on it? It's pretty much a stripped down PC right(or not)?
You never know though. MS could put some funky coding and design in there. Just look at Windows?
Did anyone think that MS is just biding their time? That, at some point, they will do a complete 180 and embrace OSS? I know that may sound ludicrous, but is right now the best time for them to accept OSS? If OSS is in its infancy, then how do we not know if MS's end goal is to exploit what others have created under the GPL once OSS gets to an across the board level of superiority.
Frankly, I take anything that comes out of the Redmond crew as just what it is: A LOT OF HOT FUCKING AIR!

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE LINUX TO A MICROSOFT PRODUCT! You should be tied up infront of a WINDOWS 3.1 screen for 1 month with 100 Linux Machines compiling code behind you for that remark.
Like many/.ers, I've been following the Sklyarov case since it started. When his case finally went to trial, in all honesty, I thought that democracy would shine through and that he would be put on probation. He and ElComSoft Co. would have to pay a big fat fine, and that would be the end of it.
NOWHERE in my wildest dreams did I think they would convict him for conspiracy and trafficking, of all things. But it has happened. He has been convicted and could face up to 25 yrs. (THAT JUST BLOWS MY FUCKING MIND!)
So as a disgruntled citizen, I feel it is my duty to inform everyone who "SUPPOSEDLY REPRESENTS ME" in the government, to tell them just how FUCKING PISSED OFF I AM!
I STRONGLY URGE ALL OF YOU WHO READ THIS TO DO THE SAME!
Since XP is being pushed so hard by MS as the future desktop OS, I wonder what type of questionable changes like this will have on those in the programming community who write for MS products. It would seem that ANY software corporation not directly in contact with MS, might possibly be hung out to dry and on their own in terms of support. From where I stand, Windows 2000 may be the last functional OS MS has released.
While I'm babysitting your children why don't I pay your bills, fuck your husband (assuming your still married) and wash the car while you go to your brunch at Debbies house.
If this is the future of political involvement in the country's social issues, I'm moving to Canada.
I may have started the fire, but you let it get out of control!
Does ones beliefs not extend to those whose beliefs differ from yours? I would seem that this case would deem one of their own scientological beliefs wrong.

I am all for using the latest technology for our endeavors, but using CGI for movie characters just sux. Especially in movies like Star Wars. Does anyone know if Lucas has even considered going back to muppets, costumes, and all the techniques used in the first couple movies?
This is just another example of how fragmented the educational system is. The teacher's first instinct was to take it down because it might upset certain individuals. Nevermind that it was done scientifically. They aren't looking at it scientifically. Your concern for the future of the children has to grow when you see teachers acting like the children they teach!
Isn't Gene patenting similar to the buckyball patenting situation. Certain scientists discovered/created buckyballs and tried to patent them. They soon found out that they existed naturally and were denied the patent. Doesn't this issue similarly fall under the same category?
Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear!
I'm glad to see someone out there is not being corrupted by the corporate greed.
I had a change to first post and i let it pass. What was I thinking!
At this point, I think help is out of the question!
Bad spider monkey's! Bad!
Hey. Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?

Dude! Your not supposed to NARC on J. Random Listener! Jeez. Now the RIAA's gonna sue his ass next.
I had a sig, but it found out I was using it.
Wasn't someone going to do something similar to this and then skydive out of the balloon? And break a couple records in the process?
