The point of Blu-Ray is High Definition. So your analog video and audio outputs are not going to get you HD. You are not going to plug your HDTV to your DVD player using analog if you want HiDef.

Since Blu-Ray will allow digital transfers of the movies across a network and copies to be made, that won't be an issue.

Without allowing that they would have lost some big players and ended up competing head-to-head with another format.

This is doable in movies, but a television studio recording is typically too expensive for taping/filming alternate scenes. And I think the advertisment of the alts would make people buy the DVDs even more, instead of watching the broadcast.

They don't film a whole show in one take. The huge amounts of blooper/deleted/cut scenes on DVD format of TV shows show this fact very well.

With the $400,000+ per 30 seconds of advertising that some shows get that will assuredly go to DVD and make money, the studios can easily get 2 good takes of each scene and not stress about it too much.

The loss of money isn't mostly the retakes, it's the massive amount of shows that don't bring in a lot of revenue that are the problem.

"For clients without need for U.S. exposure, Publicidad En Cines is able to offer DVD product placement and cross promotion for the Mexican release of a film and DVD."

Unfortunately, it's not like they can edit that crap back out before the DVD release without affecting the show even more.

Sure they can. They don't just film one version of a scene.

What they have planned is that they will switch products depending on who will pay for it on the DVD and who the target audience is for a particular version of a DVD. For example, DVDs destined for Mexico will have different products shown vs what is seen in a North American DVD release.

Of course, the world will never see NBC Dateline truly questioning what is said on FOX News, nor will the New York Times truly question the reporting of the Washington Post.

Of course they won't. That's because they're all wildly inaccurate and the main reason they don't question each other very often is a) they are in direct competition unlike Register vs Wikipedia, b) they do the same thing and they'll accomplish nothing by challenging what is being said except bring people's attention to the fact that TV is usually inaccurate, and c) they're constantly 1984ish "rectifying" what they report each day by morphing the "facts".

If everyone took a few notes about stories and then watched reporting on the same issue again a few days later, far fewer people would believe ANYTHING that is said by TV News networks. They'd notice facts are constantly revised and the organizations absolutely will not ever have the scrolling text say (for example) "sorry, almost every single bit of crap we reported about Hurricane Katrina was wrong".

Instead, they'll just keep on reporting slightly changed new "facts" to replace yesterday's "facts".

It's completely unfair. My Best Buy receipt should be enough for a warrantee. After all, it's not like they can't look up in their database and notice that if I've tried to submit the same receipt for multiple routers.

I don't often purchase those routers from Best Buy. But, sometimes the situation arises where I can't avoid it without delay. And, in those cases, I'm worried about eating the cost of a router because I wanted to get the $10 rebate, so I don't send it in.
