  1. Do it the "stargate" way on Advertising Comes to DVR Owners · · Score: 2, Insightful

Stargate sg-1 recently featured an online companion to the current episode that was only visible while the show was actually being aired. This seems like a very simple and effective way to encourage people to watch the show as it airs and not to TiVo it for later viewing.

  2. Economy Ruined? on World of Warcraft Duping Bug Found · · Score: 1

So far the only "proof" that the economy is ruined, as so many people are claiming, is that lame ass screen shot.

A lot of people are getting worked up over what probably amounts to nothing.

  6. /. ? Run by Nerds? on Doom 3 Vaporware no More · · Score: 1

This site claims to be run by nerds, right?

Retailers have been listing release dates that are no where near anything official for years now. If retailers were right, I would have had HL2 on 11/15 like they promised. It's been shown OVER AND OVER AGAIN that retailers don't know ANY more about game release dates than average joe game buyer.

I honestly can't believe that slashdot even accepted this story let alone posted it on the main page.

If you want REAL game news, go to shacknews.com. People who actually play games and talk to game publishers and developers hang out on / run that site.

(no I'm not a shack troll, this is honestly my experience)

  10. ROTK on EA Trails New Lord Of The Rings Games For 2004 · · Score: 3, Insightful

I really didn't like the ROTK game. I loved TTT, but ROTK fails miserably for only one reason.

    The camera.

Most of the time while playing the game it is difficult to even see your character. Many enemies will gather around you and beat the living daylights out of you with little chance for you to retaliate because you have no idea where you are. Even if you know that you're in a general area, timing attacks is nearly impossible because your character is COMPLETELY HIDDEN. Even if you're doing relatively well, one enemy can completely obstruct your viewpoint and render your fighter invisible.

I really wanted to like this game because TTT was so much fun, but ROTK is a perfect example of how an otherwise well produced game can completely fail (IMO) because of a single problem.

  13. Party Games on Games For Both Of Us? · · Score: 1

The Mario Party series is great if you have a GCN. It's just like playing a board game with action or puzzle oriented mini games that occur after everyone has taken a turn.

Also, even if you don't like sports games try Mario Golf and Mario Kart (especially the new Double Dash which allows 2 players to operate the same vehicle, one drives, one aims and shoots turtle shells and those sorts of things). Mario Golf is fun even if you don't like sports games or golf (me).

That being said, I hate super mario sunshine and most actual mario brothers games.

The delay has not yet been confirmed by VALVe. Last time VU said there was going to be a delay, VALVe spoke up and said that everything was still on track for Sept 30 (and we know how well that worked out). It was noted at that time that VU has no control over the games release and any OFFICIAL word about the release date comes from VALVe, not the publisher (VU).
