I consider myself a core gamer and I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot poll on launch day. [...] I'd pre-order a Revolution right now if I could.
Uh, you spelled "MS hater" wrong. Seriously, the developers have had nothing but praise, everybody who's touched it says the hardware is good stuff. Yet Nintendo hasn't said *anything* about the Revolution other than, "look at this controller"; and you're ready to pre-order it? Whatever.
Sure the launch titles for the 360 are not great, but launch titles never are. Especially on a console that was sped to market to beat the PS3 (apparently not at the cost of hardware quality).
I can see why someone would want a PS3. I can see why someone would want a Nintendo Revolution. But why would someone want an XBOX360?
For me, it's simple - Xbox Live. I'm not interested in role playing some elf wandering around enchanted islands. Get real. As far as I'm concerned, gaming is all about the challenge of playing real people. And Microsoft thoroughly walloped Sony on the online gaming front. Turning on the Xbox and firing up a game of Halo 2, Ghost Recon, or Madden is a nice 45 minute diversion.
Sony completely dropped the ball with online gaming with the PS2 and so far its looking like they're going to do it again by leaving gaming networks up to the publisher. Big mistake. Microsoft delivered a consitent, reliable, and fun online experience and the next generation can only be better.
From where I stand its pretty cut and dry. The hardware differences between the two will be neglible. Sony will have the edge, but their hardware complexity will make it a wash. The only real differences between the two will be the titles. MS will dominate online "realistic" gaming and Sony will own the "fantasy" titles.
Uh, a pyrrhic victory is one in which the winner suffers tremendous losses. It certainly does not only apply to human casualties. The prediction is that Sony will win the format war but the economic cost to do so will be great.
I've had my Prius for over 2-1/2 years and over 75,000 miles
Obviously you're a highway driver which means you're not even capitalizing on the main benefit of the hybrids (very high in-city mileage). You've saved somewhere around $1000 in gas over owning a Corolla, so you've certainly lost significant money on your decision. And somebody is going to have to recycle that toxic battery at significant electical and chemical cost. A win for the environment? I'm not so sure.
You could do the enviroment a much bigger favor if you'd ditch the hybrid and get a job where you weren't putting 82 miles on your car every single day of the year.
[I don't mean to single you out - it's the knee-jerk environmentalists that I'm criticising here.)
Another masturbatory Apple story to make the Mac buyers feel warm inside. *Sigh*
Not that Apple doesn't produce nice tech, but what really is the point of these stories? Slashdot is so formulaic, it's ridiculous. How is it "news" by anyone's measure when every other story is: A) Google is great, B) Linux is great, C) Apple is great, D) Microsoft sucks, E) RIAA/MPAA sucks. Doesn't this crap get old for anybody else?
I used to think that Slashdot has been going downhill, but I don't think so anymore. If that were the case, it'd lose popularity and evaporate. No, I think I just have "Star Wars Syndrome". The quality of the item hasn't changed over the years, my standards have just improved. I think it may actually be time to find a more mature geek news outlet. Any suggestions?
Oh yeah - go ahead and mod this as a troll. Like I give a shit.
The blatant lack of spelling and grammatical errors in this post can only lead me to the conclusion that this story was posted using CmdrTaco's stolen identity. I beseech you to end your ironic postings with his account.
NAT is not defense. The stateful firewall is defense.
NAT *is* a stateful firewall. That's how it works. It has to keep track of outgoing connections to remap those ports on the external interface. No outgoing connections == no port remapping on the external interface.
If you disagree, then explain to me how one could connect to a machine behind a NAT device if said machine has initiated *no* connections to the Internet. Sounds like stateful filtering at work.
Now, stateful firewalls are just as easy to implement on IPv6, so NAT is certainly not a valid reason for sticking with IPv4. But NAT is indeed a stateful firewall.
administration did nothing, then too little too late, and turned around and blamed state and local officials
The truth is that Louisiana and New Orleans City dropped the ball at least as much as the feds. We have state and local governments for a reason. Why the hell would you have a city near the ocean AND below sea level and not have adequate disaster planning in place?
FEMA's response has certainly been poor, but people should also be angered with the state/local response.
If that were true then it would mean that Jobs secretly thinks that windows is somehow better than OSX and that it needs to be supported by their hardware in order for Apple to survive.
It doesn't mean anyone thinks Windows is better than OSX. It just means that Apple would be delivering the most flexible solution. People used to have to decide between Windows or OSX. Now they will be deciding between a Windows-only machine and a Windows/OSX machine. That makes the Mac a much more attractive solution.
But those of us with hybrid cars are already reclaiming that energy...
Hmmm. Maybe they could design a ramp that's powered by your own sense of self satifaction...
I remember a day when once a new technology came out we tried to put it to the best use possible... PORN!
Blech. Note to self: do *not* eat cereal at this guy's house.

I expected the XBox 260 to be a really smooth console.
Nah - you're thinking of the Xbox 360. The 260 was a piece of shit.

Sounds more like a problem in search of a solution.
This is such a troll, but it's still a funny and apropos quote:
Linux is for people who hate Microsoft... BSD is for people who love Unix.
Oh, you fucker. I just hit "Submit" on an identical joke. Grrrrrrr.

Hmmm - keeping useless information from clogging the "blogosphere" has got to be one tough gig.
So wait, do we love or hate Apple today?
You must be new here. These fuckers always love Apple.

Wow - you're like that guy in A Beautiful Mind. Only instead of working with numbers, you rearrange letters into the names of comic strip characters.
Seriously, how are they going to sell these drives for a reasonable price when blue laser diodes are insanely expensive?
And I'll bet she still complains that you never do anything sweet. Women...
Actually, I believe that was supposed to be based on ammonia absorption.

What the hell are you talking about?
I'll bet this amp goes to 11.
The real question is, how much energy production do you get back out of pork?
Ha fool! You've obviously never seen the swine-powered running wheel that keeps my house off the grid.
I'm a gay, black, geek - you insensitive clod!
