Seriously, calling currently-held religous beliefs "myths" is incredibly rude and disrespectful to slashdot christians. Of course, I don't think that anyone with half of a brain takes someone seriously when they go welll out of their way to make a snipe at christianity simply to shore up their own insecure weirdness. Bleah.
A secure atheist wouldn't have felt the need to make a *gratiuitous* [sp?], while realising that if they made such a swipe, they'd have no right to expect any kind of respect for thier viewpoint. (this is, of course, ignoring that you can no more have an "secure atheist" any more than you can have a "jumbo shrimp").
Or, to put it more succinctly: back under your bridge!!!
There's tons of Java IRC applets out there, ready to be customized to whatever specifications Google needs. I don't think they would need [or that they should] rely on Chatzilla or mIRC plugins.
You're obviously un-aware of the low regard for integrity and high amounts of corruption going on here "in the states". Most of the politicians in Az, Ak and Wa would be in jail if they were private citizens [or vulnerable to the effects of breaking the law they way joe average is]. I don't know about any other states, but I doubt they are different.
Regardless of my standing in the legal proffession, Solaris has the perception (real or otherwise) of having far better support for SMP. Addtionally, I'd venture a guess that this support may even extend down to the compiled-in libraries used by each application used on the solaris platform. The end result being, that even those apps (which are probably GNU in the main) which are not written to support Symmetrical processing have crude support for mulitiple processors just by virtue of what libraries tthat they are linked to.
Assuming that you can find applications that are written to take advantage of multiple CPUs. IANAL, but I don't think that's an issue with most Solaris apps.
You're assuming I'm voting for a *canidate*, I'm voting third party for the sake of "getting the foot in the door"--meaning to open the process up to more than just the democrats and republicans. Of course, since the democrats and republicans control the process and the system itself, that is impossible so any vote -in my opinion- is either a wasted vote, or a protest vote.
So, with that, I'll vote green, for the sake of protesting the two-party lock-in, and because, frankly, their party has the best platform (again, in my opinion).
I've voted green in the last election, and will in the next, but I love my country and I'm sure the grand parent poster does too. Does that make us 'nazis' in your eyes, junior?
But I was reffering to the mindset behind the whole dot-com era, which involved vague notions of advertising and half-cocked revenue 'concepts' such as basing businesses on giving away products and services for free [eg. gnu].
It was when the investors saw that they were being scammed by madmen and scammers and pulled out that the economy collapsed.
learn your history, it was only a couple years back, dumbass.
The book 'invoked' was written by people more highly accredited than you can ever hope to be. Had you have stated "lisp hackers" you might appear more clued, but instead it's pretty obvious you didn't look beyond the URL and made an accusation based on that alone.
Your assessment of my second paragraph is so wildly inaccurate, one can only conclude you are blinded by anti-M$ hatred to the point of having nothing intelligent to contribute to any conversation which remotely involves them.
In short, you are the typical no-nothing slashdotter. Me too, but at least I cop to it and try to keep a decently open mind and halfway informed opinion...you would do well to do the same.
I never published my 'hello world' to sourceforge or expected it to get distributed with the major linux vendors. Yet how many frontends and crappy editors are available just with debian alone?
My point mainly being, because there is no ego gratification in re-using code written by someone else, most people tend to not re-use code. I backed this up by pointing to the overwhelming number of applications and os's written by people hoping to be the next RMS, when there is scads of code just laying around waiting to be reused by someone.
People are too busy reinventing the wheel, though, simply for the sake of putting their name on it. where are the oxcarts?
"and why community-supported software won't put developers out of a job" sir, all your jobs are belong to india, pakistan, and other third world nations. hope you programmers like pushing brooms
That has nothing to do with OSS versus propretary [sp?] models and everything to do with corporate profit and the achievement thereof at any cost.
When the US is another bananna republic in 10 years, it will be because of GWB, not RMS.
Mod DOWN!!!

if some one can sell a domain named 'goat sex', I'm sure there's a buyer for yours too. :)

"So no, it is not funny."
The grand-parent post meant "funny weird" not "funny, laugh".
And it is most certainly funny/weird.
Cars "took off" because they solved a specific set of problems [distance, speed, etc]. What unique set of problems do the segways solve? ........
;-)
Didn't think so.

are you serious?
As long as they're, do they want my computer as well? It's even older [thank god for lynx!]
You must not be a fan of following links [bakla.net, tubgirl.com, etc] then. :-P

Exactly how well are they doing in the embedded and gaming markets, though?

No need to see it now.

However, I AM currently accepting donations to NOT use Linux!
LCD monitor+pawn shop=profit
works for me, at least.

the topic is coding, however.
Really? Well, I trust you've seen the latest numbers.
discuss.
