Yeah, when I discovered this, and the fact that Lineage isn't even supported on any of the Samsung tablets available for sale, I finally gave up and switched over to Apple.
I never thought I would do that because I prefer having more control, but Google has no follow through on anything they release. If you like an app or feature, it probably won't be around in a couple of years. And trying to keep an Android tablet updated is a nightmare. I've pretty much given up on Google for anything but search, and even that's not as good as it once was.
For some time now, FB may or may not notify me, if somebody posts on my wall, mentions or messages me, but they will notify me every single time any of my friends does something on their own wall. This spam of stuff I don't care about, combined with failing to notify me about the stuff I do, is why I hardly ever visit FB anymore.
Powershell is bad enough, but having to run Windows, everytime you need to use it is even worse. And if your job requires you to deploy to the Azure cloud, then I can see a use for this. Although I believe they now have Linux CLI utils for that as well.
Yeah, I remember him once saying that he'd regret what he had done, if no reform ended up coming out of it. Not only did we not get any reform, the American people seem to have fully embraced it. Every bill that increases the power of these agencies, sails through without a hiccup.
Not on my Linux. Gentoo will have this stuff around forever. Still using OpenRC too without a hiccup. Bit of a pain to keep up-to-date, but it always does what I want, with no talking back.
My company uses Skype. We all have a Skype for Business account, but nobody uses it because it's inferior in every way to the regular Skype (which isn't that great itself these days). So we all have to have two accounts.
Yes I do. Back then they had the smarts to understand that state sponsored hackers would never attack a target, without routing through some other country first.
Pretty much anybody posting on Slashdot is capable of making an attack or tweet look like it came from whatever country they'd like. Or at least, the people who used to post on slashdot were capable of this.
You're under that impression, because of the people in this country stirring the shit, attempting to keep the left and the right distracted and at each other's throats, while they continue to loot what's left of America.
Just about every war we've ever gotten into has started over a lie. You'd figure people would have learned by now. Yet all you have to say is that country X is looking at us the wrong way to get everyone back into the fighting mood again. Pro-gun Russian bots.....give me a break!
I wish Youtube would go back to being normal old youtube and stop trying to be the morality police. I don't know of a single category of youtuber who hasn't been complaining about the censorship and demonetization going on over there. It's not just a political thing, it's gamers and travel vloggers too. They've all been impacted.
Everyone gets that we're watching subjective opinions on youtube. Here's a hint, there is no authoritative unbiased source of information on anything. Everyone should be skeptical of everything. You don't need warnings for that. As for the advertisers, tell them to take a walk, if they don't want to advertise on the most popular streaming site on the net. It's not worth attempting to cater to them. Without content and viewers, the ad revenue dries up anyway.
But the worst is the newer algorithms that have driven everyone to putting out watered-down daily content, over the more polished stuff, that would actually be worth sharing from time to time. It's become such a grind over there to make anything at all. The established youtubers get bigger and bigger, while I get less exposure to anything new or innovative. It's not as fun anymore. Feels more like cable TV.
By the time you walk to the station, you might as well have just walked to your destination, they're so far back. And it's expensive on top of it. At least the one on the east side. It's a complete waste.
There's a free monorail on the West side of the strip, but it only travels between a few hotels (Monte Carlo to the Bellagio). That's the only one that makes sense to use.
They need just one monorail, going down the center of the strip, with "bridge" stops that let you get off on either side. Hell, I'd even buy a travel pass for that. I'd ride it just for the scenery.
Yeah, while I never found either particularly funny, whenever I'd flip between the two channels, people would laugh at Leno's jokes and applaud Letterman's jokes. The audience was just happy to be there and understood their part. But they almost never laughed, it was strange.
Kind of disappointing to see them fold so quickly over something so minor, but then, as a soon to no longer be Youtube Red subscriber (just for the commercials, not any of their bland original nonsense), I'm not surprised by any of this.
I subscribe to a lot of different channels from gaming to science to entertainment and politics and almost every single content producer has complained about the new algorithms that have forced most of them to either greatly cut back (it becomes just a hobby for them) or they have to ramp up to lower quality daily videos (which I can't and don't really desire to keep up with). And many of the people I'm watching are apologizing and explaining why they've been force to do it. I feel bad for them. But it's also destroyed what I once loved.
And now they're talking about censoring anything controversial. Ok, well not censoring, but making it so you can't like, share, monetize and it won't show up in recommendations, meaning yeah, censor. Like most normal people, I like controversial. It's fun. Google execs are not (God that place has to suck to work).
Youtube has been so much more valuable to me than Netflix ever was, but it's gone off a cliff in the past year due to poor management decisions. It's such a shame, there really isn't a viable alternative.
It's more the CEO (and other execs) who need to be fired, not this poor sap.
Pretty sure every slashdotter here knows how to send you an e-mail from "Russia." Just as I'm sure the Russian's know how to send an e-mail from America.
And for those who don't know, King Alfred in the son of Viking's Athelstan, so it's kind of like a sequel series. Not that Vikings has much real stuff in it.
I actually liked the Get Down. It may have not had the viewership it needed, but it had enough stars and I gave it a shot. But once they did away with the stars and replaced it with thumbs/up and down, I no longer trust the recommendations. Especially on their in-house shows. I don't think I've given a new Netflix show a shot since then. Especially after seeing previously 1-star trash rise to "98% recommended" overnight (whatever that means).
Thumbs up/down isn't granular enough for me, so I don't even rate stuff anymore. My previous ratings were almost always somewhere in the middle. This in turn just makes the algorithm even worse over time.
With so many other streaming services out there and an increasingly limited selection on Netflix, I can actually see myself unsubbing someday. I'd almost rather go back to a pay-for-whatever-you-want Vudu option instead. Not sure that it would be that much more expensive, over time (might even be cheaper). And I just don't find myself watching Netflix that much anymore. I just wish their algorithm worked better.
That's the thing though, internet memers aren't news worthy. This should have never been a story, regardless of what Trump tweets. There is no other way to interpret this, other than as a grudge from a disconnected corporation that couldn't handle a joke.
And then there's this line:
"In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same."
If you think he came up with this himself, I've got a bridge to sell you. It's a freakin' meme. Nobody cares except CNN and this guys lawyers.
Not really. He claimed he was concerned for his safety and CNN flat out said that protection of his anonymity was dependent on his public contrition and refrainment from meme posting in the future. That's is pretty much a direct threat, not "a matter of perspective."
And no, I'm no fan of Trump. But then, I don't think he's the anti-Christ either. This issue has little to do with him IMO.

Everything has been politicized. There is little escaping it these days unfortunately. It's ruining everything.

Everything Microsoft touches turns to ash.

...the show is awful. Well, the first two episodes anyway. I hear the last two or three are worth watching. Tempted to just jump right to those.
By the time you walk to the station, you might as well have just walked to your destination, they're so far back. And it's expensive on top of it. At least the one on the east side. It's a complete waste.

Looks like we're going to need to go back to multiple devices soon.
Some Europeans have trouble understanding this same fact about the United STATES of America.
Yeah, while I never found either particularly funny, whenever I'd flip between the two channels, people would laugh at Leno's jokes and applaud Letterman's jokes. The audience was just happy to be there and understood their part. But they almost never laughed, it was strange.
No they didn't. Which is why they applaud, when he tells jokes, instead of laughing at them.

You can read it any way you want, but they outline everything they might retaliate against him for. Or to put their article another way:
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of this change:
* He retracts his apology.
* He fails to show remorse for posting a wrestling video.
* He ever posts a meme again.
Not really. He claimed he was concerned for his safety and CNN flat out said that protection of his anonymity was dependent on his public contrition and refrainment from meme posting in the future. That's is pretty much a direct threat, not "a matter of perspective."
