My wife and I have watched BtVS since the first episode. As far as we're concerned, it's the best written show on television. Joss Whedeon has a wonderful style and writing ability. Marti Noxon also deserves cudos for her writing. I can't think of another series that has suprised and shocked us so consistently.
Joss loves to shake things up. He's never happy with the status quo or finding a "comfortable place."
We will both miss the show greatly. At least there's still Angel and a hopeful spin-off. Most spin-offs are crap, but if anyone can pull off a good one (like Angel), it's Joss.
If the fictional element is technology-based/driven, then it's science fiction (I hold no distiction between science fiction and science fantasy), if it's based or driven from another means (nature, spells, crystals, mind, potions, etc.) then it's fantasy.
Nowadays products are build for planned obsolescence. That new washer or dryer is expected to wear out and be replaced in 6-10 years. These old workhorses were built with quality and longevity in mind.
So you could replace a forty year old washer with a new one, but then you join the ranks of the rest of us who replace them every decade or so.
I bought the Activision one for my kids (alright, who am I kidding!) about a month ago from Toys R Us. They had different colors too (not just yellow). Same games though.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) today introduced legislation designed to protect consumer's ability to enjoy digital copyrighted material. Lofgren's bill, the "Digital Choice and Freedom Act of 2002," gives lawful consumers the ability to make personal uses of digital entertainment such as music, movies, and books. In addition, the bill recognizes that digital piracy will never be truly solved until consumers are given an affordable, reliable, legitimate and secure alternative.
"Consumers need a voice in this debate. Right now, it is the entertainment industry versus the technology industry, and the consumers are watching from the sidelines," said Lofgren. "Consumers have rights and expectations that cannot be ignored by industry goliaths."
How is this related? From what I'm understanding, the crystal method is highly random and STATIC. Static making it repeatable. The webcam idea is good for randomness, but it could never be duplicated.
Blame it on the Tramiels! After the incredible success they had with the Commodore 64, they lived out the rest of their professional careers believing that anything they did would succeed via word of mouth. They saw no need for advertising or professional marketing. The Atari ST, Falcon 030, and Jaguar had incredible capabilities at the time and, given the right marketing would have been much more successful and Atari as it was might still be around today.
My kids are still playing Jaguar today! They love Rayman and Val de'Iser (sp?) Skiing and Snowboarding. When they get a little older I'll introduce them to Doom and AvP.
You should be able to boot from the "classic" OS 9 that installed with 10.2. I've done that, at least.
If you have your own OS 9, (1) make sure it's 9.2.2. I believe nothing earlier will boot. (2) if you have one of the newest Macs, I've read that OS 9 will only boot off ATA/66, not ATA/100, which is what the internal drive is originally installed on.
As soon as someone wearing this walks in front of a painting or billboard or magazine rack...BAM!...you get them on copyright infrigement. No hope for you.
Excellent point! There is no right to have a web page, yet these companies are acting as if there is. They cannot and should not be allowed to change what the Web is.
If they don't like the concept of deep linking, then they should remove all deep linkable content from their site, or remove their site entirely. They choose to populate the web space they inhabit now.
Yeah, well, hopefully your PBS station has the accurate time! At least three times, the PBS station has set my VCR date one day ahead! So, I'd get home and find my program NOT recorded 'cause it's all set to record it the next day!
Definitely! My cousin and I tag-teaming Laser Blast (Activision) until 4am to reach 1,000,000 points (still have the pics I took to prove it somewhere). Adventure. Combat with riccochet bullets! Warlords. Great times. Moved from there to the Atari 800 (tape drive ugh!) then Commodore 64, then Atari ST with OMG! 1 MB memory!!!
I was very sad to see Atari (Tramiel's travesty) go out of business back in '97?
Beta is/was 1/2" just like VHS. I'm not sure about the consumer Beta cameras. At the time, all that may have been available were standalone cameras that connected to record decks, so the term Beta cameras and VHS cameras didn't apply.
If 57% never or seldom paid and 12% admitted to pirating software AT MOST there would be 31% left over! You can't subtract 12 from 57 to get the remaining percentage!!! That would total 114%.
Chowderhead.
I was hoping that in 200+ messages SOMEONE would have caught this stupid error.
Yeah, and I'm sure they condensed the whole movie down to this teaser. Right. What you saw in the teaser is the entire movie. You've seen it now, why bother going to see it in 2003.
"Let's put a complex, involved scene in the teaser! Sure it'll take up 90% of the length. And it will mean absolutely nothing outside the context of the finished film. But it'll make MisterBlister happy, 'cause he can't understand the concept of a normal teaser."
Absolutely right... Persistence of Vision is what allows us to enjoy television and film. Without it, we'd see the individual film frames being sprocketed along on screen. Film doesn't actually fly by at a constant speed, the sprockets advance the film and hold it momentarily 24 times a second.
I forget now the "retention" length the average eye holds, but it's pretty slow. We can't see the LED flash as fast as it does, and I'll bet the LED has three stages, OFF for no data, DIM (or something thereabouts) for 0 and HI for 1. Probably not something programmed in, but just a result of the data being sent and how the LED is triggered.

Of course, I speak with a little bit of bias - The Alyson Hannigan Appreciation Society.
I disagree.

Actual improvements?

Here are the pictures taken at the Holland party where everyone dressed up as Ellen. Some people are very scary!
It sounds like these "Black Friday" deals have been available in years past on the internet. I'd never heard of them before this post on /.
Thank you big-name retailers! Without you and your foolish lawyers, I probably wouldn't have heard about them again this year!

If we just would've listened to him, we'd have a much better view of the meteor shower later this month!
I certainly hope not. I think TiVo is great.
I submitted this to /., but it was rejected...
This is from her website...

Don't think that the "macosx" in the prompt is the default. It'll be your userid and not "macosx". Unless of course, you choose macosx as your userid.

Biggest buzz for me comes from a packaged Rice Krispie treat with a Mountain Dew chaser. I feel like I can vibrate through walls after that!
Same with that awful Lemon Twist Pepsi. You just aren't supposed to drink Lemon Pledge!
I introduced my kids to Rayman on the Jaguar 64 and they've been playing it constantly for several weeks now. Next up, Tempest 2000!
Depends on your definition of "major" I guess. Kyocera's 6035 is Palm OS-based and its incredible. The Treo as well from Handspring.
