No problem! They'll just whip up a supply of Mr. Fusion generators to go inside the shipping container! That should produce the 1.21GW they'll need to power the thing!
I believe in the literal translation of the Bible. I believe that the Bible is God's words (penned by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit) and thus must be followed because it is what God wants for us.
Did you ever think that God had the foresight to realize that the men He chose to write the Bible wouldn't understand something as complex as evolution? Have you ever considered that a being, supposidly one who is omnescent and infinite, would realize that He had to explain things to His followers in a way and with words and concepts they'd understand? If you really believe that ALL of the Bible is absolutely true, I invite you to go teach a tribe in the deep Amazon quantum mechanics without giving them the requisite college education first.
I'm as Christian as you are, but I really wonder about people like you who seem to think God meant for this universe to be static and unchanging. I don't know if you've noticed, but this whole universe is about learning and growing; He wants us to become more than we currently are, not stagnate. Questioning your faith and what is written in the Bible is perfectly acceptable as it deepens your faith and understanding of what He wants for us and of us.
Try using the mind God gave you to understand His word. Also realize that He gave us all free-will and He wants people to believe in Him of their own free-will, not to be mindless slaves.
I was raised to be a Roman Catholic and even went to an all-boys Catholic school. Funny thing is the priests taught us evolution in science class. In theology, they taught us that the story of Genesis was a euphemism that was used by the writers of the Bible to explain how the universe came to be because they didn't understand the universe as we do today! (and, yes, we still have much to learn ourselves) There is nothing incompatible between religion and science since, as a newspaper columnist pointed out recently, science is about HOW we came to be here and religion is about WHY we are here. Unfortunately, the rise of the televangelists and other people who claim that a literal reading of the Bible is the only way to understand it miss some of the points that the stories try to make. For example, the story of the loaves and fishes isn't about Jesus "magically" making more bread and fish appear to feed a crowd. The story is about Jesus leading by example, giving what little food he had to the crowd and the each person in the crowd adding what little they had to it to feed everyone. Showing that being charitable is the way to encourage others to do the same is the "miracle". This is the kind of stuff I learned in Catholic school. I also find it funny that so many evangelicals are willing to believe Jesus did "miracles" (aka magic) but don't want their kids reading Harry Potter books because magic is "Satanic".
Yes, most patents that are being filed these days are about restricting competition. Unfortunately, it's leading to a situation where all the companies have their hands around someone else's neck; they'll end up strangling each other and innovation to death at the expense of their consumers.
I agree. Pandemic diseases don't care if you have money or not; even the businessperson would end up being a corpse. What matters is stopping the disease before it spreads.
Actually, there are quite a few Star Trek fans in the military. I'll never forget a Halloween when a Air Force captain came to work dressed in a perfect replica of Captain Kirk's uniform (insignia and all). We were all giving him the Vulcan salute all day! \\//
It's not that the satellites were just left up there longer because they couldn't be replaced, it's because they've lasted longer than they were intended to. Kind of a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" philosophy.
Actually, the military's philosophy is to over-engineer items like satellites to make sure they last awhile. If you don't believe me, read a couple of the military specifications (MIL-SPEC) manuals. There is a joke that goes:
Q: What is an elephant? A: A mouse built to MIL-SPEC.
It's also a case of the corporations, who control the media, using repetition to make people believe that something is "illegal". Most people here don't bother to read what the law actually says and count on "news" organizations to educate them. It's the Orwellian "tell a lie so often that it becomes the truth."
W went and retaliated against Saddam not because of oil, WMDs, being evil, but because Saddam tried to assassinate W's dad.
Now people want to modify the GPL to retaliate against people who patent software? Maybe the people who want to change the GPL should see how retaliation is working for W and reconsider.
Is there a myth that you absolutely, positively, unequivocally will NOT do? If so, what is that myth?
Take what he says with an extremely large grain of salt.
Would that grain of salt fit in a 40' cargo container?
No problem! They'll just whip up a supply of Mr. Fusion generators to go inside the shipping container!

Has NASA contracted with John Deere to build them?
No, really, it is about time.
Bravo! Couldn't have said this better!
WooHoo! Now I can get my own death ray satellite!
World conquest, here I come!

There goes the free internet access my neighbor provides!
Fortunately, he doesn't seem to mind the amount of pr0n I download.
IBM has actually found two more ways to slow the speed of light:
Subject photons to their software development process.
Put photons through the government procurement process.

You're not supposed to eat the laptop!

cause the government already owns our butts!
It's modified PR, really.

Didn't you know that "Less is More"? Except for the price, of course. It'll cost just $24.95 + tax + your freedom = Profit!
Anyone know how many meows-per-gallon you'd get?
Tell us how you really feel!

An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.
'supernovae are catastrophic electrical discharges focused on a star'
But will these discharges provide the 1.21 Gigawatts I need for my time machine?
