One of the big problems I see with copyrighting source code is how do you teach programming (no matter the language) without showing examples? Looking at examples and then trying to replicate something similar is how we learn to use a programming language. If all the ideas (hashing, tables, objects, etc) get copyrighted, then how do we teach the next generation of programmers?
I have a friend who is a professional recruiter. Several years ago he told me NEVER to answer the question of how much I currently make. Instead, ask the interviewer "How much is someone with my skills worth to your company?" If they interviewer continues to pressure you to reveal your current salary, politely bid him a good day and leave.
You are under no obligation to reveal your current salary. It's even against the law for your current employer to disclose that information. The only information they can ask your current employer for is if you work there and how long you've been employed.
The reason interviewers ask this is so they can offer you just enough to make you leave your current employer even if they were planning on paying more. For example, the last time I told an interviewer what I was making, they offered me only $5,000 more. Shortly after getting the position, I found out that they had been paying the previous person, with a lesser skill set, about $20,000 more than I was making. It was while bitching to my friend that I found out about answering the "How much do you currently make?" with an answer instead of a question.
What next? Is Target, Inc. going to complain about the red target symbols for archers that you see in games like Dungeon Seige or WoW?
While I agree that they have used the red cross as their "trademark", it has become known worldwide that, if you see a red cross, it means medical care is nearby.
doesn't set in until an individual is willing to take responsibility for ALL of their actions, good or bad. I've met young children who are very mature and senior citizens that refuse to take responsibility for anything in their lives.
Like others have said, get out of your chair and exercise. Doesn't mean you have to join a gym you can always go for a 1-hour walk, ride a bike for a couple of hours, or whatever you like to do EVERY DAY. Just get off of the couch.
For those days when I feel like my arse is dragging (we all have those days), I like Xcess Energy Drinks. All they are is liquid vitamin B12 with flavoring (the rootbeer is great!). No jitters from caffine or herbal additives, you don't feel burned out afterwards, and it is absorbed by your body in minutes.
I see there are quite a few people arguing wether or not this pill would be a good thing or a bad thing. While we could argue ad infinitum about this when it comes to soldiers, rape victims, etc; I see the medication as a good thing for people who undergo traumatic medical procedures. Studies during the past decade have shown that people who undergo things like heart surgery, organ transplants, chemotherapy, cancer surgery, etc experience PTSD due to the physical trauma the body goes through. After having several open-heart surgeries to correct a defect I was born with, I spent most of my life depressed and dealing with PTSD, although I didn't know it at the time. Now that I'm getting treatment for the depression and PTSD, I'm happier, healthier, and a whole lot nicer to be around. I'd rather have the medication available so others won't have to go through the hell I did.
is that nothing is perfect. We flawed humans created flawed machines and flawed software. No matter what OS you run there will always be flaws that someone could exploit. I use Macs but I certainly don't count on OS X being secure enough for me to connect to the internet without using a correctly configured firewall.
I have several CD-ROMs that I created over 10 years ago using Kodak Ultima CD-Rs and I can still read them in my PC and Mac. The Ultimas were the best CD-Rs, IMHO, that were ever made. It's a shame that Kodak no longer produces this high-quality line of CD-Rs. I certainly would willingly pay a premium price for these if I could find them or CD-Rs of the same quality.
especially if you *think* you know what your programs are doing.
Pfft... I've been writing programs and working with computers for over 25 years. I *STILL* haven't figured out what they are doing. Come to think of it, I could say the samething about my wife.
I wonder if they will offer a steam whistle as an option to replace the car's horn. It certainly would get the attention of the person in front of you preening themselves in their rearview mirror!
And that's the flaw in your B2-Bomber-argument. The aliens would be stuck with using our (extremely primitive) technology. We know pretty well how our computers work, and can figure out most ways to break/hack/crack them ourselves in a short timespan.
You also have a flaw in your reasoning that the alien level of technology would be greater than ours. It could be the same or even a little less. Radio has been around a bit.
That picture of you will really grow on someone! Watch as the eyes of the picture really do follow you around the room! E. Coli never looked so beautiful!
Can you use it to make small paper swans?
like the minds of millions of /.ers have ceased to exist.

It's done wonders for my income.
Don't you mean Core Wars?

Nice to see that Deutsch-bag got outed by his alma mater.
Even Aggies have high standards!

I believe what you are talking about is referred to as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collusion collusion.
What the telcos are doing certainly sounds like it.
Resistance is futile.

Yeah, right.
Now where did that ice cap go?

Thanks for the information on Mitsui! I'll definitely look for their media!

Perhaps it's going to part of the next Lego video game: Dance Dance Robot.
Sounds to me like they want our virtual lives to reflect our real lives: rich vs. poor.
And who said we have a classless system?
I wonder if they will offer a steam whistle as an option to replace the car's horn.

Why can't women who are intelligent, strong, and powerful in games ALSO be big-breasted?
Hey, that sounds like my wife! Well, except for the "in games" part.
Nice unit, but I'd prefer a green machine!

And moving to Australia!
