    AMD was making every attempt possible to escape the chipset business

    As far as I know AMD has never really been in the chipset business. They will usually create a chipset for a new processor but then expect Via, Sis, and now Nvidia to pick up the business. Think of AMD's chipset as a reference, You will usually find very few mb's that use the AMD chipset.

    I don't know about canada but in the US ISP's are NOT common carriers.

    I have said this far to often and I am not sure where everyone gets this idea from but they are wrong.

    ISP's are considered customers in the telecom industry and are classified ESP's (that's enhanced service providers).

    Actually, I don't think security should be in that statement at all. The declaration did anything but make us more secure.

    And freedom ain't free, one has to work just as hard to keep it as they did to obtain it in the first place.

    One possibility is that trying him will endanger operatives.

    So what, thats not anyone's fault and in no way affects every citizens "right to a speedy and public trial".

    If they are so worried about sensitive information, the courts have provisions to deal such situations.

    I fail to see this hipocrisy you speak of.

    It reads like a damn press release. How low is /. going to stoop. I mean if this were a newspaper the top of the page would say ADVERTISEMENT.

    And as others have probably said the Apple Airport has had this functionality since it's inception ( I can't make any claims about the later versions as all I have is my silver UFO) and I have used it many times in the past. So while yes this can be a useful function, it is not something new.

    Way to go Timothy, I hope they paid you well.

    Correction. CERN (via Sir Tim Berners-Lee) was responsible for HTTP and the world wide web, but the web is not the whole of the internet. It is just one application that runs on the internet. There are many others, some have died, such as gopher. Others are thriving, Like email, Some continue on in obscurity, NNTP and IRC, and new ones are coming along all the time, VOIP... (i'd list more but my head hurts).

    But the initial development of the distributed TCP/IP network called the internet was funded by the USA.

    That is only if you exclude the Pentium-m from the mix. IIRC the Pentium-m has the best performance per watt for any desktop/laptop chip.

    How is this informative. First in only ONE movie were zombies wanting to eat brains and that movie was a spoof of the Romero films (it was Return of the Living Dead) mostly they want to eat whatever part of you is closest. In most Zombie movies (Lets disregard the Return of the Living Dead movies as they were never meant to be horror flicks) a head shot is what is required to kill a zombie, just one to the head will stop it, Taking out it's legs just means it's gonna be crawling after you. Hmmm... run away bravely, I didn't know you could do that.

    As I have said numerous times before but I'll say it again.

    ISP's are considered by the FCC to be ESP's (Enhanced Service Providers). They are NOT subject to the same regulations as Telecom Common Carriers, they are not regulated under Title II, and they are exempt from the access charges of long distance carriers ("Access charges" are fees collected by the local telephone companies for the origination or termination of any interstate or foreign telecommunication).

    All in all ISPs are end users of the telephone network, like you and me, and while they are not entirely responsible for the content which crosses their network, they may be required to monitor and turn over the names of their customers who engage in illegal activity which is something that common carriers are protected from.

    What makes you think that universities could be considered for Common Carrier status. I think maybe you should go look up what Cammon Carrier means in the telecommunications industry. Since neither ISP's nor Cable networks are considered common carriers I think a private network like a University would have no chance. Just so you know, you can't claim common carrier, it's a classification that the FCC bestows on you and it comes with massive regulation.

    Since it was a newspaper that did the sting and notified the police there is no entrapment involved. Also even if the authorities had attemted to buy the information I do not think entrapment would apply as "one must have no previous intent to commit" the crime.     I think Apple is looking to Intel for something along the lines of the pentium-m not the P4. the p-m is based on the Pentium 3 and does not have hyper-threading. I don't think apple is looking all that closely at the p4, but who knows I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

    Maybe I'm getting old but I tend to find that theaters soud is way too loud and the bass is set a bit too high. There have been times I have left the theater because the sound was actually painful.
