The popping sound lead me to beleive that I had blown a capacitor in the power supply, so I switched in a new one, and a few days later, thought about the CD I had been reading, since someone wante a copy. I went to eject the CD, and the drive just stuck.
So, I took the drive apart, and spent an hour cleaning out all the various CD peices.
An m-80 is a type of small explosive, like you would pick up at a fireworks shop. It's about 4cm long and 1cm wide, cylindrical in shape with a fuse about 1.5cm long protuding from the top.
They're very loud, and illegal in many states now (don't know about foreign countries). They also happen to have the nasty reputation of having blown off a few people's hands.
I've seen a lot of people commenting on how this would be easier if it all stayed digital, but upon seeing the diagram he had, the first thing that came to mind was pattern recognition, perhaps in use for robots.
This is the kind of thing that people spend a lot of money on, and even if it is kind of crude, visual sensors combined with logic that works is a Good Thing(tm) indeed.
There's six apple/macintosh labs at my school. Now, this is a high school, with about 1500 students. Each lab houses about 25 computers. Now, the annoying thing is that two of the labs have brand new Emacs (you know, the bright white ones with the CRTs instead of the LCDs), running.... os9. Because it's what the techs know.
The PC Labs are better. They're running win2k or mandrake 9 (about 20% of the machines in each lab are running it, to the students choice), but they're done by a different admin.
Ok, was it just me, or did the "forum links" on the side bar read like a troll's wetdream?

I like this idea, although I'd like to add a corolarry (however you might spell that).
No real cash needs to be brought into this system (I mean, I made my first email account when I was nine, back in '93. I didn't have a credit card, and I didn't have much money for that matter. Just a salvaged POS PC and some copied software.
Now, the thing is, I think the credits should be returned when someone says "This is not spam."
Well, then you'd have to worry about being sued. Silence, as you know, is copywritten. Of course, which part of the silence is copywritten will end up in dispute
Heheh. I called them regarding this, and the tech didn't seem to have any idea what was going on. She told me that "..you should be using a firewall service, which is provided on the installation CD you were given with your self-install kit.."
Ergh.
I need to find this mystical *NIX person who works in Buffalo.
Outage? I, among nearly every other person I knew, kept disconnectnig repeatedly from the adelphia network last night.
I had recently set up a home network for a freind of mine, and he kept blaming the disconnects on me, until another freind called in and complained about disconnects while playing his MMORPG.
The eight-megabytes-per-second connection was as free...
Ok, am I the only one who caught this? I'm hoping (not really) that it's a terminology error, because a 64mbps connection sounds real, real nice, especially when it's free.
The project as a whole, though, sounds very cool. I think I would like to try that out when I go this summer.
Sony f520. It's the Best CRT there is, although I can't deal with 21" CRTs for LAN'ning.
I seem to remember a story about a soceity that grew seperate, with everyone departed from the crowded cities, living via telecommunication.
Problem was the extroverts went fscking nuts.
Moral: Kill that asshole who won't shut up.

I can't remember who said it, but I heard it said
"It only takes 20 years for a conservative to become a liberal without changing a single idea"
I had a CD spin up, and promptly shatter.

It still works fine.
Well, low concentrations are present even in your body. Your immune system uses the ozone to punch holes in bacteria.
After a rainstorm, that funky smell is ozone, created by the lightning passing through the atmosphere.
So, small amounts isn't too bad.
I don't have much bandwidth, but I'd send you a divx copy if you email me nice like.
Karma to burn

"Worst Episode Ever!"

Interestingly enough, I get this all the time.
I have 15GB+ of mp3s, ripped from CDs.
My CD's were stolen from my father's car, so now I don't have the discs anymore.
Well, this oddly reminds me of my school.
We have a lot of computers.

Moderaters, please mod parent up... he has a good point.

Well, in my case, it ends up being for games.
I can get an average of 40fps at 1024x768 in ut2k3 with everything turned on, and that makes me happy, and I'm running a fairly old system.

Actually, both pronounciations are right, according to The jargon file, but it's really a matter of preference.

UBSARPAUBSARPA had an ADV Panel at their last mini-con. They're interested in coming back, but more to the point.
They said that although they are interested in the network, copyright issues are making it very difficult.
Simple reasoning that they didn't "feel the need to list" sex. "Kazaa".
Same thing, right? Well, at least I see them as such. Mmm... pr0n.

Could you give me the name of the movie? I could use a good laugh. I'm on the line waiting for adelphia tech support, so I might get one anyways.
