  1. Hidden chats, what else is hidden... on Viber Update Brings End-To-End Encryption and Hidden Chats (gsmarena.com) · · Score: 2

Viber shares a founder with one of those Israeli shitware companies from Download Valley and has ties to several others https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Also, they have questionable security and/or sold people contacts in the past http://haydenjames.io/i-refuse...

On November 4, 2014, Viber scored 1 out of 7 points on the Electronic Frontier Foundation's "Secure Messaging Scorecard". Viber received a point for encryption during transit but lost points because communications were not encrypted with keys that the provider didn't have access to (i.e. the communications were not end-to-end encrypted), users could not verify contacts' identities, past messages were not secure if the encryption keys were stolen (i.e. the service did not provide forward secrecy), the code was not open to independent review (i.e. the code was not open-source), the security design was not properly documented, and there had not been a recent independent security audit.

On top of Opera being very fast, the sync feature is also nice if you have a lot of bookmarks dating back years. The new opera beta for the desktop has a built in 'sync' to sync the bookmarks with my.opera.com (same thing as Foxmarks plugin on firefox). All you need to do to get your bookmarks on your phone is import your firefox bookmarks into desktop opera, and sync mini opera for the win.

  3. Mark the parent up, it's right on the money on Students Downloading Jihadist Material Acquitted · · Score: 1

Students are rebellions, and although we are all curious well into life and most likely forever, we all have probably done things in college we would no longer consider with careers, family, children, etc. Something like this sets a scary president. For instance, I am no longer interested in googling search terms such as (at the time, it was yahoo):

    - Bet Middler from behind
    - Bet Middler Anal
    - Bet Middler, Flute, #2 pencil
    - Bet Middler, pot, cyanide
    - Bet Middler, Beta, Used, spycam, whipcream
    - Bet Middler, difference, satan (no search results)

Basically, it's just kids who are curious. I am curious how everyone in the world knows how to make bombs but me, yet I don't plan to do it anytime soon. I am also curious about this big black hole in those intertubes called 'goatse', yet I', old enough where I will not pursue further study.

I hope everything is clearer now. It's funny how Ron Paul haters love to point out he will never win. Well, his views won't die, and Nader had no chance either, but how many votes did he win in FL, 100k? And how many votes were in dispute with Bush, less than 1000?

I get the feeling big media, fox news, and hardcore dems or repubs love to live in denial that he isn't a threat.

I am sad to see it go too. It doesn't really matter what the 'state' of Netscape is today. It made its mark, in a tremendous way. Mark worked down the hall, in the Beckman Institute for Advanced Sciences, in what we call 'the fishbowl'. Many of us worked in the Viz, REL, and Numerical lab, and CAVE. We were all SGI based, and grew up on Netscape. Back in the day, IE was unheard of.

The accomplishments of Netscape will live on, no matter there present state (anyone remember that silly car called, oh Deloreon). I won't loose sleep over Netscapes fall, it's their time, but give credit where credit is due. They were the true leaders.

In reality, in was a stupid thing to do. I am all for '19 year old individuality', trying to push the limits, discovering who you are those first years in college, etc. Though the actions were probably harsh, as someone who generally flies monday-friday , did she really think they would just flag her through with open arms, a hug, and best wishes?

In addition, a bomb couldn't be detonated with a 9 volt battery? Interesting theory, though last time i read the multiple bombs that set off all the underground bombs in both spain and london were set off via cellphones, using much smaller batteries than 9volt. Not to sound like an old fark, but I really don't want everyone everything expressing their individuality at airports by wearing clothes with circuit boards and blinkiing LED lights hanging off them.

Unless the person picking you up at the landing airport is going to kill you unless you arrive wearing 'blinking clothes', I fail to see why it would be an issue to pack it in your carryon and put it on upon arriving. I am also fairly certain that the person sitting next to her on the plane will not think its "totally gnarley" to see a blinking shirt while sitting next to hear the whole flight.

We all know the saying "give someone an inch, they take a mile". Think privacy and our government for one. One can say "if they ban a shirt with a political message, whats next to go, etc. However, you can also say "if they start allowing shirts with batteries, blinking lights, and LED's hanging off, what the next thing a step up, joe schmo will try, shoes with a a built in cellphone that plays the afghanistan national anthem when it rings because "I thought it would be a hoot"...

Some of us have been using Mandriva since back in the day when the conversion happened (think Mandrake, not like any noobs remember that ol' thing). Mandrake was always Redhat on steroids. Mandriva followed the same path. It had so many apps that could be configured, easily, via http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ . I run 4 linux distros, and I still like Mandriva. Debian and Suse fanboys, what's your rational? Some people like rpm package management, others apt-get. Fine, fair enough, to each his own. NO, I don't like the French either. And yes, mandriva has some serios issues when it comes to wireless cards (ndiswrappwer DOES NOT work unless you compile from source with almost any car other than a BCM4xxx chipset). Overall though, they do a decent job, unlike debian, which doesnt have all the apts available, and its a bitch to get the network set up on an alienware SLI graphics card setup. I won't defend the French, but fanboys piss me off.

  15. decoding HDTV? on Universal Radio Grabber: the USRP · · Score: 3, Interesting

Ok, I must be missing here (the details of HDTV were not very specific). Do other people NOT decode HDTV, and is that milestone? Any product by DVICO will also decode HDTV. My Dvico USB unit decodes it. All you need is an antenna. Granted, only local stations are picked up. But it doesnt matter, you can copy everything else too using other methods. Is he referring to cracking the RCE broadcast flag that certain HDTV channels have (INHD/INHD2 in certain areas?). Does my comcast box not already decode HDTV? I guess I don't fully understand the issue. Even if the RCE broadcast flag is set in the HDTV content, you can still plug in a firewire cable (at least in the Motorola/comcast boxes), and output to your workstation, capturing the raw .ts HDTV streams. All the ports are already open (as required by law), just no firmware for the boxes. YOu can even verify the active firewire using the command power-select-select, then going to section 11 and verifying the active ports changed from 0 to 1. Once you have these .ts streams saved, you can output back to your HDTV using DVI if you have it. And doesnt the RCE flag (again, required by law) require you be able to save it at least ONCE (common for pay-per-view on demand). In that case you capture it while it is playing, and you still get it. You don't have to respect the flag, it's up to the client (comcast). If they didn't though, they would loose all their advertising money. However, I don't know why a client on a workstation would need to repsect the broadcast flag. And if you are that interested in saving your HDTV content: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&t hreadid=353608&highlight=windows+xp+firewire

All it shows is you stuck with something for a few years, thats pretty much it.

Personally I would go with marketing. That is one of the few professions where you have the ability to make vast amount of money, without anything to show for it. Might as well just send the marketing budget to /dev/null, and if you luck out and have a good year, wait for your bonus.
