    For some resoan even though they cant get you a person on the phone for hours they are never to swamped to sell more.

    I just looked up the hard drive size in the 360 its 20 gigs
    $53 bucks for high volume 20 gig drive ?

    Maybe they should have bought thier components retail

    The article stated costs of $106 for the chip and $53 for the hard drive ?

    $53 dollars for a hard drive sounds pretty steep, maybe not if you goto best buy ot what not but call up seagate and tell em you want 500,000 hard drives and that price drops dramaticly im sure.

    Does anyone on slashdot do purchasing for high volume components and can comment on this ?

    To me it just sounds like marketing
    "Buy this xbox 360 cause it costs us way more to make it than it sells for"

    Plus the costs of $55 for the controller, cables and power supplies sounds kinda high also.

    Really think about what is 4.5 billion these days ?
    The us national debt increases more that 100 times that amount every year and they cant fund the hubble.

    The problem probably is the people in power want the budget to be 45 billion but it will need to goto a no bid contract.

    Im sure my crappy fans cost me 40 cents extra a month but the initial cost was very low.

    If you are talking about just the energy savings you would be better by increasing average automobile mileage by 10%

    lets try to keep usenet obscure and hard to use.
    Ive seen every other thing come and go, the faster they go seems to be related to the ease of use.
    Lets go back the the days before par files and nzb files when usenet was hard work and dedication to actually download anything.
    Its been around this long lets try to keep it around longer.

    Aside from reliability speculation, think about where this would be needed.

    Drasticly lowers startup costs if you need to supply a large number of employee's.

    Bussiness's can scale much faster when experiancing rapid positive growth.

    For places that always deploy the latest software this can certainly make things cheaper.

    For linux only shops this can provide a windows box without licsense worries.

    Whats needed now is a really thin client box, if ms can sell a sub $100 dollar box for access that will further increase the doability of this.

    Its certainly not for me but thats not to say it will not be extremely popular.

    Aside from all this its that full circle thing come back to haunt me again.

    Which is why ebay and paypal are using the free advertiser driven model now.

    Throw all the config settings from an apache conf file and then make apache changes.

    On slashdot why defend the hacker. Yes i call him a hacker because i dont know what his intentions where, only he does.
    Maybe he was a budding hacker trying out his leet skills and maybe it was an innocent mistake on his part we will never know.
    We do know that hopefully his troubles now will deter others from testing my server for traversal attack or port scans or whatever.
    Next time your logs show an attack attemp will you just ignore it thinking its just someone testing for security.
