...when the engineer outlives the doctor. No engineer should have to see his doctor die.
-------- Jun 11 1999 3:15PM DeForest Kelley, who, as Star Trek's folksy spaceman Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, frequently issued the dire (and trademark) "He's dead, Jim" diagnosis, died today at the Motion Picture and Television Country Home and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. He was 79.
Terrorist notifed as to what areas of the olympics will be "rights positive". These areas will be free of "rights imposing" things like security and suveilance, who might look at you, thereby profile you, etc.
The "rights negative" area will also be in effect, for people who will submit themselves to tyranny and the like. Those who believe that security and surveilance are good things will be ushered to a secure area to view the games.
It will be no extra charge for the secure area to view the "fireworks show" on the insecure side.
Wheras you might be capable of reading something and coming upw ith good cunter arguments, the majority of the masses will latch on to a one sided argument aned run with it before they consider the other ramifications. Its not hard to say "rights of geeks are being threatened" here and get a bunch of people riled up, while completely missing the rest of the debate.
I do believe that the submissions are moderated by a few people. They are the ones who could take a moment and say "hey, this guy is clearly on one side of what could be a good, informative debate, and I'm going to post his submission, but either cut out or add on to it with some balance."
I just hate it when we are left with the most basic argument, when there are clearly some good thinkers here. How about we mention the base arguments, and then offer the higher thinking as a way the debate should go. That way those just starting out can get past the old, worn out issues, and move on to the issues that debate creates.
I think you should put in an app for moderator... you're one of the people I'd like to see up there.:)
excellent point.... and a much more interesting angle of conversation... the very higher debate i would have enjoyed without prompting it if the submission had been so thoughtful.
"This means all homebrew and hobbyist coders in the UK can no longer modify their consoles to run games they have written."
I think if you'd like the slashdot community to discuss this intelligently, the article needs to have both sides. It would have been just as easy to say "while this certainly is a big blow to piracy, the rights of other citizens, while a very small population, are being infringed upon.
All to often the submitters skewed view steers the conversation in only one way.
so we had books, but they were hard to find, so we got online paper book sites. but they werent digital, so we got e-books. got them on demand on e-book sites. so then we got digital books on demand, but they werent paper, so we got a machine that makes the paper books at digital speed on demand.
now if we can just get... i have no idea where this is supposed to go from here.
what i really want to know is can i walk into a place with a pdf and get my own book bound and printed. that would be awesome. I have an awners manual for my car no longer in proint that id love a hard copy of.... so i can take my digital copy to be made into a.... oh hell, forget it.
not getting patents doesnt make him better.... it just lets others rip him off.
now, lets say this obviously charitable guy gets his due, and decides some of it will be used to futhur even more charitable inventions, then his good can be multiplied greatly. maybe hire an assitant, or get some parts.
heck, he could donate it all if he doesn't want it, but he's lining someone elses pockets if he doesnt get it himself, and I doubt the other guy is as scrupulous as he is.
you might have a point, if those magazines had electronics and comic heroes in them.... and until they start being regulars in hustler.... its apples and oranges.
This is a guy on slashdot.... he should be praised for recognizing a female in the movie at all. After all, there were comic book characters and electronics everywhere in this flick... im suprised he even noticed her.
She must have had alot to do with the comic book characters and electronics, now that i think of it. If I mentioned a hot blonde int he movie, he'd probably reply, "oh the one being saved by that awesome spidey from that no good doc oc.... badass, yeah I sort of remember her".
grandfathering for the sake of grandfathering is the worst argument.
if some chick can get mad at me for calling the hours my team worked "man hours", instead of her preferred "person hours", then I can muse about whether or not "act of god" is dated as well.
of course, your still calling people negroes, right? granfathering that one in are ya? get over yourself as well.
if an insurance company told me something wasnt covered because it was an act of GOD, id kindly request they prove this "GOD" existed from which this meteor was cast down...
heck, i might even sue for slander, for them implying that GOD wanted to kill me.
I thought that a degree/diploma is something you get for things you did in your past, as in certain clases taken, grades acheived.... not a revokable license. If I go off in life and really suck, can I lose my high school diploma?
Even Dr. Evil gets to keep the "Dr." in his name, regardless of how many meteors he's tried to pull towards the earth with tractor beams.
"I can't wait for every shitty pop song to be blaring out of some asshat's saggy A&F jeans during class when his roommate's older brother calls to say he got the beer."
I know you've been wondering, so I'll confirm it to you. Those are the guys having sex in college.
If someone could play some tunes through their Ipod on an old radio, record it for me, and send over the MP3's, that would be awesome!
Thanks in advance!

lets see who ranks better.

This must be the first instance of an attempted stellar purse snatching.

About a thousand geeks just simutaneously
wondered what the hell paper is.
Oddly enough, all of those thousand geeks could tell you what a scroll is.
