I am my 15 year old son's friend. We share common interests (computers, video games, technology, etc.) and so we get along great. But his computer is in the basement right next to mine and it's going to be that way until he moves out. It has worked well, and while I did have parental control software on it when he was younger, I removed all of it and gave him admin access a couple years ago. Raise them right, give them some freedom, but supervise, and it all works out. Can he access porn when I'm not around? Sure. But at 15 1/2 I'm not too worried about it.

And it's not exactly a 2D grid like the GP suggests. There are over 5,000 star (solar) systems but each is basically full size. It's true that like a normal star system, the overwhelmingly vast majority of that is empty space, but you can be anywhere within it. Most of the action does take place around celestial bodies, space stations, star gates, and anomalies, but EVE does a good job of making a galaxy feel mindbogglingly huge, which is appropriate.

I'll second this. The thing I like about it is it doesn't bug you to renew/update/subscribe, etc. As long as you have a "genuine" copy of Windows, it just works. Odd, coming from MS and all, but I do like it.

Hey, YOU thought it was a bad joke. I think it was appropriate, and so do the slashdotters who used mod points instead of comment. :p

That said, this has been a good discussion with some valid points raised. Myself, I've just about run out of faith that this can all be fixed with elections. I sure hope it can be, and I sure hope what we get next is better, but I sure as hell wouldn't bet on it. Sadly, the USA has seen better days...

The thing that pisses me off about the do not call list, is the fucking politicians have conveniently exempted political calls. When I say do not call me, I mean everyone - no charities, no politicians - EVERYONE. It gets nuts in the month preceding an election.
