  1. Because Slashdot needs Friday night BS forum fuel on Ask Slashdot: How Do You Explain 'Don't Improve My Software Syndrome' Or DIMSS? · · Score: -1, Offtopic

    See?

  2. It's bizarre to me that so many commenters seem to trust Google more than Microsoft. I get not trusting either of them. I don't understand trusting Google.

  3. Those who don't object to gmail won't object to this, and MS eats a share of Google's gmail lunch. I'm surprised it took them this long. Not that I'll be using this or anything, but I admire this move from the surveillance as a service perspective.

Let me be sure I get it. If I think of "dog", the targeting system aims at the dog. If I think of a smile, the targeting system aims at people that bare their teeth. Am I getting this right? I just want to be sure the long-term customers can make proper use of this.

  7. Why are we surprised? on Twitter Allegedly Deleting Negative Tweets About United Airlines' Passenger Abuse (thenextweb.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Steering people to a platform where they get used to being censored is the entire point of Web 2.0, isn't it? What, do you want people to learn how to host their own webpages again? Luddite.

  8. Hey, teen, stack rank this pile of feces! on Teenagers Think Google is Cool, Study By Google Finds (theguardian.com) · · Score: 1

  9. Re:I'll keep recording the streams, thanks. on Netflix Now Lets You Download Videos Onto Your PC (pcworld.com) · · Score: 2

With Netflix, you're paying for a limited-time license to view the material. Your license immediately expires when you stop paying Netflix.

Try your "I'm entitled to record and play back..." argument in front of a judge after you get kicked out of a movie theater for using a video recorder.
Same thing. You're not going to get very far with that argument.

Not the same thing at all. How dare you compare my usage of a VCR with a person trying to take a camera copy at a paid exhibition at a movie theater? Are you spreading disinformation? Who pays you, coward? http://mentalfloss.com/article...

  10. Re:there are bigger risks than breaking drm on Netflix Now Lets You Download Videos Onto Your PC (pcworld.com) · · Score: 2

And if you can't stop live capture, then drm will only stop the truly law-abiding and the moderately lazy.

Live capture is law abiding. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a troll. http://mentalfloss.com/article.... Folks, seriously: never let a statement or implication about recording being illegal slide. Always correct this. It's worth arguing about.

  11. I'll keep recording the streams, thanks. on Netflix Now Lets You Download Videos Onto Your PC (pcworld.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

I am entitled to record and play back my recording that I made. Caching a DRM copy of Netflix's actual file is inferior in terms of my rights. Breaking the DRM will definitely be some kind of violation. No thanks.

If they looked that far into it, why would anybody want a Kodi box at all, except for piracy? That's really the only reason to get one, whether they say "this is great for piracy!" or not.

It's spelled "privacy", and the files are stored on local servers in the Kodi users's homes.

  16. President Zuckerberg scares me on Facebook Announces Crowdfunding Service To Back Causes Such As Medical Needs (androidandme.com) · · Score: 1

You think things are scary now? Just let Zuckerberg follow his plan and watch what happens. Polarizing pundits like to call the other side (whichever side) "fascist", but this could be the real deal if we don't keep Facebook in check.

  17. I was just about to cancel Netflix! on Christopher Nolan and Sofia Coppola Urge Fans To Watch Films in Cinemas, Not On Netflix (theguardian.com) · · Score: 1

Really, I was just about to cancel. But now I'm keeping Netflix for sure. When are the entitled Hollywood types going to realize that they are not in a position to ask for charity? Nolan, Coppola_ go back to work making content. You have no influence over where that content will be consumed. When I feel like going out and getting popcorn with friends or family, I'll go to the theater. I may or may not pay to see a first run movie when I do so. I may go to the cheap theater or a rivival house too. Nothing has changed. You two, though, Nolan and Coppola---you're TERRIBLE popcorn salespeople. Theater owners take note. Next year, talk about how the popcorn is better than microwave.

Right, because when you have legal forms or complex explanations to communicate with your friends and relatives, you've been using Twitter and Facebook for that since....2005? Why don't I believe you?

    Right.

He essentially claims anything that doesn't play out exactly the same for everyone who observes it is not an artistic expression.

Not right, and irrelevant after he revised his opinion after his experience with Beatles Rock Band.

  24. He was not at all fair to animation either. He just didn't seem to know what to do with it.
