some stores (and it seems to vary within the different chains) will ask to see a driver's license before they'll sign you up, to "verify" the information is correct.
erm, without doing an exhaustive search for links proving otherwise, i'm 97% sure common law marriages are still legal and obtainable in texas. i believe texas ammended the laws dealing with common law, i think to force the couple to get married within a year of the common law marriage, however that was repealed.
well, when i'm trying to get past the tier 1 support guy by saying "yes, i rebooted", "yes i reinstalled windows" (on my linux box), "yes i reformatted my hard drive and made sacrifice to the gods of cable connectivity", even though i haven't and i know its a problem on their end, i don't want them to know i'm lying...
i thought this was a known thing. i even remember i'd seen it in the Great Brain series. Tom was always sleeping on problems and he'd have the solution in the morning..
i'd have to say that depends on the kid. one kid i know thought he was "really into computers". he asked me what it would take to get a job working on games. i told him basically a lot of hard work (especially since he played lots of games, but had very little technical knowledge). he decided against it. he was 16/17 at the time.
another kid i know started writing IRC bots when he was in 6th grade, and now in 9th grade is exploring assembly on his TI calc.
some kids will use the limitations they are given to do more than anyone would expect. others will say "that's too hard" and give up.
yeah, i know there are some stations that don't have these or have had them broken off, i just don't use those stations anymore.
of course as i get "older", i tend to have enough of a regular routine that i generally only fill up at one of two gas stations. either the one near work or the one near home.
from what i've...*heard*...saying "This isn't like most of the other sites out there that just has one girl... This one is actually run by me!..." is pretty common for sites like hers..
this reminds me of this article. it used an image recognition algorithm to determine if the cat had something in her mouth. could you modify that to "read" a digital (or maybe even an analog) thermometer and output the temp to a file?
i've noticed in my (semi-classy) area, the people who pick up the stuff aren't necessarily classy themselves, they just know that an old computer out in the trash can be sold for a few bucks to someone.
i just wish i'd acted quickly enough to grab those two servers down the street from my house before they were nabbed..
if i take over a computer and want to get the owner blamed for my mischief, wouldn't i need to upload my toolz of the trade to be able to do anything? and wouldn't any logs (assuming they exist or i didn't wipe them) show that the programs were used from that computer?
excellent point. i rememeber beginning in the 90's i vowed never to buy a console system because i wouldn't be able to upgrade it. now, i have a PS2, and i love it because i know that any game i buy for it will perform great without me having to upgrade something.
sure, for hardcore gamers onboard video is not an option, but my wife's new computer will have onboard video, and my work PC at home will too, because there's just no need for me to spend $300 on a video card when the onboard will work just fine.
because they didn't really steal from him. they stole from the credit card company. the credit card company didn't want to press charges. they specifically told him it was cheaper for them to write off the expense than it was to investigate, no matter what information he would be able to give them.
In addition the credit card companies do maintain large anti-fraud departments to investigate this sort of thing
actually, i've found they don't care if they catch anyone or not. a friend of mine had his credit card number stolen. a bunch of home office equipment was charged to it. when he got his bill in the mail he found the company that sold the equipment, and called them. they gave him the address where the equipment had been delivered. he checked it out (it was a house), and was able to easily see some of the larger items from the yard in front of the house. he called the credit card company and they didn't care. they just reveresed the charges. they weren't even interested in the address of the person who had defrauded them. they just apparently wrote off the expense.
a company develops a new lock that makes it easier for anyone in the house to open the door. instead of using a key they can just wiggle the lock a certain way and they're in. someone notices that all these locks are made the same, and all that is required to get into the house is this same "wiggle". this person notices that these locks are in use at a government building. fearing that any criminal could get in, he rounds up a government official and a reporter and shows them how easy it is for anyone to get in. he then gets arrested for breaking and entering.
most are though. if they don't specify otherwise, it's usually only so you can plug in one of their accessories. i tried hooking something into it one time, but it was apparantly looking for a sony accessory that did compression or something, the sound was all garbled..i have a factory panasonic that has a true aux in though, and it was nice to have my portable mp3 player in the car again..
some stereos have aux inputs, but they only take accessories from the same manufacturer. i have a sony and the aux-in will only accept connections from something other than a sony cd changer/md changer is a $100 adapter that itself will accept connections.

prepare for an offtopic..
couldn't figure out why my printer was jammed, looked inside, and i see a little green army man trying to help me out.
thanks son..:-)

you're right though about alimony.
yee haw!
why would you put your computer outside?
Damn, wish I wrote her name down...
wouldn't matter, most likely she would have been transferred by now to a completely new location/business/job description by now.

but no link for us? :P
don't be ridiculous. if we had more money we wouldn't spend it on such frivolous things as leather seats for the electric chair...
:->
we'd buy more electricity

i'd also attach a form for the Human Fund.
Coca-cola
Redhat
Target
Lucent Technologies
Pizza Hut
KFC
yeah, no big players there.
but then couldn't it be shown that the hiring is not being done to increase the minority hiring, but to increase the hiring of foreign workers?

i think its closer to this:

but again, there are laws covering that. if i raise my arm with the intent of hitting you, that is assault, which is illegal.
