The post should be talking about spoofing a location. Many "services" won't work unless they know your location. Having a hidden location doesn't work.
Even in monolingual people it's amazing to see that particular tiny pause following their utterance of a foreign word within a sentence, particularly when they've made an effort to pronounce it as they think it should be pronounced in the foreign language. Somehow the brain has to catch up before they continue the sentence.
1. The most fun in learning a foreign language comes on the day you realise you've been speaking the language and not realising it. You're on autopilot, in the "zone". If something interrupts the flow - yikes. 2. When I began to learn Mandarin having already learnt Italian, Itallian began to come out of my mouth. Weird. 3. I was once in a language class with a diplomat who was professionally fluent in three languages. He'd just come back from three years in a post speaking French. Now he was doing a lunch time class polishing his already excellent Mandarin. To his incredible frustration he would switch to French without even realising what he was doing (much like the woman in one of the story links). Amazing to see. 4. I conclude there is a part of the brain where all foreign languages are coded - not sure what happens to people using sign language? Anyone?
You really don't get it. The biology of some humans requires they wipe out other humans. History shows tyrants gain power and decide to wipe out masses of humanity. Imagine McCarthyism with NSA powers. Imagine Hitler with these powers. We're already seeing it with the Inland Revenue targetting of political opponents. Pastor Niemoller- First they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out - because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out -because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out -because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me!
Sorry to original poster. Slashdot software says include the above post and it doesn't apply to the COMMENT on the post, which was what I responded to. More bad Karma for me.
I don't think that is how it works in Saudi Arabia. You might be able to hide what you're doing, but that doesn't stop them from hauling your ass off to prison and beating the what out of you. You can hide behind Tor all you like, if the offense is using Tor in the first place you're screwed.
Physical printout is dangerous if the physical is photocopied or kept. 1. There's forensics on the physical. 2. Many orgs use a kerning algorithim (the tiny spacing between letters is altered in a code which records who and where and when issued the printer command.)
I suppose you were there? I suppose you know the comments weren't meant to be overheard? You geeks really need to learn some manners. The fact that slashdot editors decided to run this story again for chrissakes shows exactly how threatening it is for you. Reminds me of Zsa Zsa Gabor who summed you dickheads up nicely: "I've been married to a communist and a fascist, and neither would take out the garbage."
I think you're missing the point. If it's opensource, the software can be updated by anyone who cares to despite the fact that a developer or company may not be interested.
Linux is being used more and more by "unsophisticated" users like me and the group of elderly people I've helped by installing Lubuntu on their tired old computers. Please don't make assumptions for us about this sort of thing. As I understand it, good programmers (and hopefully that included people who make this decision, shouldn't make such assumptions.
Who on earth modded this up??? My Lubuntu runs fine on an old computer. I've been helping old people (another neglected segment of the population) install Linux on their machines. They are AMAZED by the things they can now do that they couldn't on various microsux iterations.
My experience was the powers-that-be in wikipedia are uneducated kids from the USA. They get their kicks from throwing their weight around. Yes they behave just like bullies in the school playground. I gave up a few years ago when most of the kiddies were anti-science and knew nothing about science. Hopefully that's changed but I can't be bothered "negotiating" with idiots and playing the role playing games referred to above. Their jargon is impenetrable too. As for the idea that the project is almost complete, I laughed so much I nearly fell of the chair. EVERY time I look at an article I find problems. Some areas are a huge vacuum.
I guess you meant "Security Theatre". Recently a rude TSA guy in USA ordered me go through the screen again - this time with my hands out of my pockets where he could see them. I asked him why and he said I could hide things in my hands (he did a scrunched up hand gesture to show me). Wow he was dumb - now I can tell the world how to fool the machine - just scrunch up those bits of metal in your hands.

live in a really fucked society.
Why did it take you so long to stomp on the anti-science bias of your admins? The mess a few years ago on altmed articles is a perfect example.

Thanks for wonderful list of torrent sites.

Agree 100%. Amazing how logic flies out the window when misogynist geeks are challenged.

either haha or where is the dup http://slashdot.org/submission/2444955/best-webcam-for-vision-impaired-on-linux
Thanks for that, I sorta gathered that was how it worked. I'm curious as to how long a submission can be "pending". Could you have a look at it? Can you "moderate" it? I think it's just the sort of thing I've seen on slashdot. http://slashdot.org/submission/2444955/best-webcam-for-vision-impaired-on-linux
Sorry to butt in here but I thought I'd get in early in the posts. I've had a slashdot submission pending for a few days and am wondering if anyone has actually looked at it. Other websites tell you how many views something has had. http://slashdot.org/submission/2444955/best-webcam-for-vision-impaired-on-linux
Mod parent up! I stopped using paypal anyway when they cut of Julian Assange donations. Scum.
How do I check my display resolution in Linux?

jeez I wish I had some mod points to mod you up. Couldn't agree more.
