including hundreds of golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, kestrels and other raptors
In case you didn't realize, raptors eat meat. Birds are made of meat. Raptors eat birds. Therefore killing a few hawks is actually *saving* birds !
Golden Eagles: "Up to 20 percent of their diet is comprised of birds and reptiles" Red-tailed Hawks: "The most common hawk received by the clinic, the red-tailed hawk is often the victim of vehicular collisions, shooting, and an occasional steel-jaw trap." Kestrels: "They will also eat small rodents and birds...The kestrel is an extremely common falcon."
How about an LED to indicate when the FBI is in 'listen' mode on your OnStar ? Any here old enough to remember the old 'Radio Shack' phone trace mod where you place an few items together with an LED that indicate when the trace tone is being sent over your line (usually accompanied by the 'big red button' mode for hanging up your modem real quick) ?
Ahhh, there it is, a V-Box. No plans though. Thanks Google;)
Sorry, I mean "a crawl" and not "a craw" = craw, crop -- (a pouch in many birds and some lower animals that resembles a stomach for storage and preliminary maceration of food)
I feel so much better now with my recent purchase of a handful of Athlon 1800, 512MB, 40G, Nic, no modem/etc boxes from my local neighborhood shop. I'm running them as app severs at home to try out a few things here and there. After reading this thread, it seems I'm not the only one who isn't caught up in the arms race to have the faster CPU... Lets see, I got three 1800s for around $1200 total. That's less than my sister paid for her high-speed Dell home spam/virus collector !!!
Are you suggesting they should have copied it ???

SOMEBODY TYPED THAT IN TO BEGIN WITH! My guess is that someone googled a definition of binary code and misread the text of the definition.
Are you suggesting that someone at SCO should have just copied the text directly ? You how careful they are to make certain that everything they publish is originally theirs. You Linux Zealots are always copying stuff ! Bad dogs... BaD !;)
I've been a Spamcop user for years (see above unobfuscated email) and participated in or have read the associated newsgroups (where the fun really is) for as long. The system just doesn't work unless the 'users' are reporting Spam regularly and in a timely manner (hours, not days). These people are rabid anti-spam and would scream bloody murder if there was a site under IronPort that was spamming and it wasn't being handled.
My optimisim comes from the absence of those screams since June when the deal went down. They aren't doing anything that bad (selling specialized server hardware?)
I don't think that's the case, but if it is, then I sincerely hope that Julian didn't sign any NDA/compete clauses - he could just start the whole thing over from scratch !
All conspiracies aside, the people who use spamcop (look at my *unobfuscated* email addy) are typically rabid anti-spammers... check out the newsgroups under spamcop.net !
Any hint of impropriety and these helpers are gone...
Good point... but Spamcop does pull in a few bucks (not enough to build an entire secure infrastructure I suppose). I hope Julian didn't sign a non-compete or anything, he could always re-create Spamcop from scratch again !!! (if IronPort goes to the Dark Side)
There is a huge incentive for IronPort to stay on the legitimate side of things. Spamcop rocks (thanks Julian!) - but only because of the constant vigilance of the many users who report instances of spam. This is a human-based review system of millions of junk messages... without the users, there is no Spamcop, and Ironport bought nothing. They can't afford to risk being the bad guy here or they risk losing the reviewers !

How popular do you think the mouse would be, if for random periods it switched directions, reversed buttons, or turned off completely?
You mean your's doesn't ? Time for a new optical...
Seriously though, websites are already notorious for inconsistent interfaces. Think of it this way, one behavior (using js) that works the same in all browsers for a given website...
Granted, these are all valid issues when learning a new interface, but with that thinking wouldn't we be better off using keyboards and f-keys with no mouses (after all, at one time you couldn't expect to regularly find a mouse on anything but a Mac)... or taken to an extreme - who would want to use a clinky keyboard where you have to type in everything when you can just re-use paper cards, and they stay sorted in their carts so neatly !
Not trying to discount your very valid points, but if there is one thing humans do well, it's learning a new trick (no matter how old the dog).
My first ooops with javascript gestures: I tried to select/copy the text to send it to a few pals so that in case (more like when) it get's slashdotted they can read it. I selected the text at the top, pulled down and to the right, and the window closed (as it should).
It only took a few seconds to notice the status bar at the bottom which indicates if a gesture will be activated when you release the click... keep an eye on that when using using these. You can see if the gesture is 'blank' = it's not going to run an action. Quite handy, pretty cool. I've already grabbed the.js file !
...of how effective SpamCop is and how much I trust their system.
Please notice (above) that I use my spamcop.net addy here at/. with *no obsfuscication* needed. I love it. (And it helps identify a few spams that require manual handling = trapped and reported)
It's the users that make SC what it is. If IronPort ever goes to the Dark Side, the users will defect and there will be no SC any more ! I trust also that they understand this and that this is a happy day for the SC folks.
Divide those pages up, and there are what, Three IBM lawyers for each page ? Heehehe... Darl is so done.
A Google Search (dina tersago belgium) on a supermodel babe yields as it's first result, not a bunch of spam/pron sites, but a new Linux project ? WTF ? hehehe...
Wind turbines don't kill birds... Birds kill birds !

I wonder if they are the same as the Sika Deer (Cervus nippon) that we have here in Maryland on Assateague Island ? The place is lousy with them
Only on Slashdot can a link that appears in the main story get posted again in the comments and moderated as "Informative" !
Why not just buy a scooter from the guy - then they will stop emailing you.
Seriously though, it seems to be questionable if any military network was actually compromised...
the research site is already slowing to a craw !

Stop Disney and the entertainment industry from trampling your rights.

Good point... maybe you could pull and archive the RSS feed ?
Doesn't Slashdot have an archiving system that helps pages stay alive forever ?
They just post a dupe of the story every couple weeks, thus maintaining the data forever...
