I do pass them back if that's how they come to me.) As for these "statistics" which tell us we all use .doc I'd say it's just the usual FUD ;)

  2. Re:Rate of Expansion? on Ask Turbine's Jeff Anderson About LOTRO · · Score: 1

I disagree on this point. One of the reasons I shied away from MMO's before WoW was the ridiculous update cycle. EQ has 13 expansions and quite frankly I dislike paying for the game and then a monthly fee ... add buying 1-2 expansions per year and I'm just done. I like the fact that I played WoW for over 2 years before having to plunk down more cash for an expansion. I didn't like the fact that they added 0 classes in the XP but that's another discussion :)

Wow you still use yahoo? Crazy. Responding to your last point however, the anti-spyware/anti-cheat modules are designed to stop people from ruining the game, not making an ass of themselves. The spammers, while I hate them probably more than you do as I'm running an addon called WIM which makes whispers appear in their own window, while an annoyance, aren't ruining the game. What the AS/AC modules are for is people who would try to ruin the game by allowing their characters to do things they shouldn't be able to. Try fighting an opponent who seems to move in 30-40 foot "leaps" ... or, in the PvE sense, try beating that guy to the Mithril Vein :) Another thing to keep in mind about the gold spammers is that from the research I've done in game most are level 1 characters attached to trial accounts (one of the many reasons most MMOs don't do free trials over the web :P ) and thusly there's really nothing Blizzard can do to stop them short of stopping the trials alltogether ... which would lead to said gold farmers buying a copy of the game and getting it banned once a week :) My roommate thinks they should ban by IP but as I believe most of these guys are spamming from cyber-cafes I doubt this would be an option.

    Hope this helps!

    1. I think it's fairly obvious now that the retail box is to pay for the time and effort of developing the client and the monthly fees are to cover bandwith and server maintenance.
    2. Allowing you to sell your account leads to the sale of high level accounts which denies them money for having that same player buy the box new and level on his own.
    3. More than a few MMOs these days do have a Mac client. Plus if you're die-hard against Windows Cedega supports quite a number of MMOs as well.
    4. I've played a few MMOs and with the exception of Guild Wars none of them focused on PvP ... it was always an option.
    5. Yeah there's really not a whole lot they can do about that. Most RPGs in the non-computerized world are fantasy as well. Just the nature of the beast. That said look into Hellgate:London coming soon. :)
    6. Spyware? I assume you're referring to the WoW check for hacks? I wouldn't go so far as to call it spyware. Especially when it doesn't talk to Blizzard unless it finds something worth reporting. As for EULA's ... come on man ... what software doesn't have an EULA? Freakin' Linux has an EULA ... less restrictive yes ... but it's there.
    7. I played City of Heroes on my notebook with Intel video. WoW is currently playing on a 3-year-old machine. You can't crank the graphical settings but these games don't require "bleeding-edge" hardware.

    Hope this helps :)

  15. Re:Teachers on Improving Education? · · Score: 1

My biggest problem with the Canadian education system (and being partially a product of it I think I'm entitled to comment) is that it is targetted for a medium intelligence. Children who are average and can study do exceptionally well because the system is geared entirely towards them. Children who are above average (such as myself) tend to get bored, boredom leads to apathy, I never did my homework ... was docked marks ... then kicked the tests ass! In grade 12 I mocked my algebra & Geo Trig teacher to the point he offered to let me write the finals at the beginning of the year to show me I wasn't ready yet ... I got a 95% on Algebra and a 93% on Geo Trig and gained 2 spares in my senior year. Similarily the bullies (in my class) were all below average and the special education classes were looked so far down upon that they refused to go and most ended up dropping out to go work the rigs or other manual labour. I believe that they were failed as badly as myself cause if they could've received a slower more tailored education they could've earned a high school diploma too. They need to make a tiered school system and feel free to transfer kids back and forth. I realize this is difficult and especially when teachers are at such a premium it becomes harder but this is the only way I can find to make the system work. I have to agree with Markus as well though ... for each teacher I respected for actually knowledge there were two idiots (case in point the art teacher who didn't know what an optical illusion was & the comp sci teacher who tried telling me how CD's were magnetic media!!) This is just my opinion of course, enlightened though it may be (lol.)

Well there is Knightmare Chess which adds a random element to the game by having a deck of cards (either constructed by each player using a point value system or a common deck) to shake things up. It can do small things (make any piece but a king move like a knight for one turn no capture) or totally change the game (The board turns 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise your choice ... ranks move accordingly!) Note this isn't for everyone ... without the cards I have never beaten my brother at chess, with the cards he can't win, he's decided we can't play with the cards anymore :)
