Googledot receives a few hits everytime someone mentions it on Slashdot. I've been keeping track of the hits and such, which show 67% of slashdotters (who are willing to click a link for a laugh) are using firefox, and only 14.5% of them are using Internet Explorer. It is interesting to look at how many people still use Windows over *nix too. I guess it is all very much depending on what type of website you're counting from too.
You can look at a few statistics here that have been collected since over a few months.
If I could have modded the guy I'd have modded him underrated (+1 mod, unlike funny, which is +1 but non-karma, thus his -1 troll took from his karma even though he had +1 funny).
It isn't like they have much to lose. They sell hardware, the drivers simply let that hardware operate. They probably also know this will earn them points with the Open Source Community.. which is always a good thing.
It is far too limited to be useful to anyone. Users who need to use the computer will pirate. Government will not be stuck with a stripped down almost unusable copy of Windows, when they could build their own hack of linux and use that on their boxen. The only people I would expect this could be useful for are Computer Manufactures.. who will just throw a copy of Starter on the computer for a bit less money.
I really got annoyed at how they always clogged up the path way, or lured onto me. If anything, I tried to get them to run across the field to die, or across the bridge and lift it. They were often useless to me.. I like being slow and taking problems on that I can handle, not charging in like the guy who, just before whispered "Be careful!".
The end of the game left the question and the real only possibility was she died -- So she lived? Does anyone have a storyline write up about all this? I did find a few sites that tried to piece together everything, but anyone know anything else?
Actually, some schools would frown upon the use of Wikipedia. I note an instructor at the college explaining to his students the evil of the internet, and all content void.
If you read a bit about their history (back when I read it, like, years [implying not very "now" like the submitted states]) ago, they speak about how it was once just a pretty memory hack. It still is a pretty memory hack, where they have mapped out different parts of the program's memory and alter it. There are other additional changes also done but I don't believe they ever touch the exe, thus they're not doing anything illegal (replying to some comments).
To be honest, I look forward to this launch. In the past five years we have had terrorist attacks, wasted wars, and sad accidents.. and I really miss watching the launches too. I'm going to enjoy this launch.. and you know, it is good that we're still going up, instead of becoming too scared to tinker and explore.
On a serious note, do you have anything that documents this? I want to print it out and let my father have a read at it. He has been staring down telescopes for years at the moon or random planet, and when I tell him it will damage his eyes, he simply rants on that he is a million years old and should know better.
Yeah, it is pretty cool to burn something with mirrors alone, but why not throw in magnification? Or does anyone know anything that has been designed similar using magnification?
Recently I noticed on a certain college website, every employee's email address was listed on a type of 'contact' page.
Every employee.
It actually was a three column table, on the left side it had the employee's name, next column was for e-mail, and the last for their phone number.
I was sitting with the Administrator that handles the email servers, when I heard recently there has been an ever more increasing spam flow to all the college email addresses.
Maybe Debian will finally start moving again. I understand there have been problems, but I really wish something would happen.. and as much as I love it as a server OS, I dislike spending my time updating every package or recompiling half of the software when I do a clean install to a server.. then I'm stuck with some very old packages that, though I don't use, I fear may be dangerous. Maybe I should use Sarge?
Off topic a bit, but what is a good distro for servers in general? I've always picked Debian due to the fact it feels Unixish to me, and can be very cleanly installed. Local Community College uses Red Hat, and the SysAdmin swares by it. Any comments?
As a recent former High School student, I concur. They spent so much time trying to prepare us to take a test, they didn't stop to think that maybe they should prepare us in general, and design a test that would -- test -- us. We seriously had a class everyday that was nothing but practice testing for the FCAT.
Teaching to educate the students became a lesser priority. Teaching what we needed to pass a test so the school could get a good grade, that is what happened -- and still occuring. Out of the day, at least two hours of it is being spent teaching students nothing but what is on a test. Every single day.
To the first post above, good idea.. Never thought of it, I've been just doing this on the side so never bothered to go into all that. I do dress neatly though.
Second post, I do it on the side and don't want to screw people out of money if I have to take alittle longer then the bigger guys. I've taken many computer related courses but have yet to take the time to take the tests (that and I keep buying shit). Wonder if I can take out a student loan to pay for the tests.
Well, someone tell me what they think of mine (note, I don't have any certifications [yet]),
$50 for the first hour of work. $30 for each addition hour of work I do for them. Usually I resolve the issues in the first hour. If the issues are more prone to fully formatting a box, I usually take it home and charge them $50 for my time at home.. since honestly, formatting / installing drivers takes time but not enough time to waste their money.
If it is something like their computer doesn't work (and its rather stupid) I usually just ask for gas money + $20. I usually always work for a friend, or a friends friend.. I don't do professional calls (e.g. companies) unless, again, are small and a friends company.
Eric
P.S. I used to do the whole "$50 to wipe it, $20 to install hardware, $15 to install software" thing, but when I started dealing with friends of friends, I upped it.
One of the reasons I didn't mind using LiveJournal for my journaling was due to the fact it was run by a group of average people, and my excuse for paying for it was to help support open source. Now, I fear soon small "adverts" forcefully added, or some small changes that will annoy people. In general, I figure its about time I return my blog to the only piece of hardware I trust, the server sitting in my closet.

I found it incredibly funny.
If I could have modded the guy I'd have modded him underrated (+1 mod, unlike funny, which is +1 but non-karma, thus his -1 troll took from his karma even though he had +1 funny).
Actually, you should mod them Underrated.. that is what I do for posts I find funny.

Actually always thought this one was the funniest I've seen.

You mean like how long Valve waited to release Half-Life 2? They've proved they could pull it off once.
The end of the game left the question and the real only possibility was she died -- So she lived? Does anyone have a storyline write up about all this? I did find a few sites that tried to piece together everything, but anyone know anything else?
For the price of classes? Definately. You're not paying to change the mind of your instructor or impress anyone. This sadly, is what it is reduced to.
Actually, some schools would frown upon the use of Wikipedia. I note an instructor at the college explaining to his students the evil of the internet, and all content void.
I justed donated.
I'd like to see the GPL tested over this a bit more. It just adds one more opinion in future events.
That and this guy blatenly misuses GPL'd code repeatedly and then has the audacity to tell the world that he wrote it all.

I still see fine out of my other remaining eye.

I feel like complaining to someone.

no less, thanks for your views.
I like that. I've done the same, just haven't came out that well ;)

Specifically, they're dealing with this. The first link was more generalized.
