    also kinda OT, but hey, /. is to help each other right? If you don't mind using a long distance (calling MA) calling card, it costs 1Cent a minute to Japan, and a bunch of other countries.

    RNK Tel I am NOT affiliated in any way w/ this company other than being a very loyal customer for many months. They are excellent (never had to call customer service so can't answer for that), and the rates are impecable.

    But we must remember that this is analog transmissions. 2006, that will be history, w/ Digital transmissions being used. IANARE (Radio Engineer) but wouldn't it be so much easier to filter out or ignore WiFi noise?

    Super Loki This is a link to the rocket site. If I remember correctly, we got upto 105,000ft according to the radar tracking (or was it GPS...) I don't know, been a while.

    And on a side note, how well does GPS work at that alt?

    I was part of a Super-Loki rocket team in WI a few years back that went sub-orbital. (I was a camera systems specialist=ohhh, pretty pictures, look!!) It was an Amatur rocket, so does that count?

    Yes, I RTFA, but can this be used as a DRM measure? If a piece of software is unsigned (as determined by the OS), the processor can be instructed to not execute. Someone smarter than me explain this.

    You know, I don't care.

    Its not like I have the secrets to nuclear weapons research, nor do I have tomorrows stock market numbers. I and average Joe 24 Pack.

    So you can listen to my keystrokes and decipher what I am typing. I'm sure that if you asked me, I'd tell you anyway. People are far greater a security risk than computers.

    And well, if you have such sensative documents, Tempest your computer, unplug it from EVERY network and work.

    I agree that these are good academic exercises to see how one person can spy on another, but does it matter to 99% of the world. NO. Anywho, my girlfriend just yelled at me so I needed to vent.

    I can't agree that Gmail is fast. I don't particularly like how it "loads" for seemingly ever. I havn't tried it in IE, but its slow on Firebird (or as it is called now Mozilla Spacesquid)

    I do have to say that the little one button keyboard shortcuts are amazing. If only Gmail had the ability to download from another postbox.

    Is this too good to be true? For such a simple idea, it makes me wonder why hasn't anyone thought of this before. I would like to see some more information on it. I really hope this is true, as we could use these in cars, or even ceiling fans to reduce energy use.

    What happens to the regional AT&T Networks? In the South East, there is a company owned by Triton Communications called SunCom, and they PROUDLY state, everywhere that they are part of the AT&T network. Website Just look at their logo! I wonder what this means for companies like them? Will AT&T Wirless be mirged out of existence?

    I have SprintPCS Vison service and to test it one day, I hooked up my laptop in my car, and started driving. I had a two hour drive, so before I left I turned on a ShoutCast streaming station. For the duration of the 2 hour drive in which I traversed 137miles, the radio did not skip once. This was a 128kbps stream. My buffer setting was at 64K, and I was using winamp. On the other hand, I've noticed that to have my connection retain its speedyness, I need to keep a ping window running in the background. Its like Keep-Alive, but w/ 2.5G Cell Serivice. Anyway, YMMV and all that.

    Yea but thier server just BIT THE BIG ONE. I 'put' 5 USD onto my VIP account (using their terminology), but it wasnt credited. I bet that 5 dollars goes off into the ether and I won't ever see it again. Its not really thier fault (yea, it is...but...), because the Slashdot effect killed their secure.allofmp3.com server. anyway, just a warning. I'm going to wait till the morning to try again.

    I cannot agree with you more. As a college student, I NEED voice connectivity, but getting a landlind is ridiculous. How often am I home? Not enough to justify 40USD+/month for shoddy local service. I have a cellphone w/ a loaded minute plan and thats ALL I need. I'd LOVE to have a VoIP phone in my apt so people can order pizza, etc w/o asking me to do it w/ my cellphone. I was going to buy a Linksys Net2phone router, but even Ebay has a hard time keeping those in stock.
    Anyway, VoIP is what I want NOW, not in 5 years, NOW.
