  1. Cellphone would rapidly discharge in quarry on Exploding Cell Phone Battery Kills · · Score: 1

When a cellphone is turned on, it keeps in constant contact with the cell towers. Since this man was in a quarry, likely his phone couldn't make the connection and boosted up its power, overheating the battery. In the electronics industry we have the same problem when people accidentally leave their phones on in a screen-room. (ie Faraday shield)

  3. But what about sterility? on Radiation Not As Hazardous As Once Believed · · Score: 5, Interesting

Nuclear radiation will produce sterility in men. I know this as it happened to my uncle. Who knows what other diseases might show up that don't necessarily produce immediate death.

  4. Smuggling nukes is uneccessary on New Neutron Scatter Camera to Detect Smuggled Nukes · · Score: 1

All one has to do it put a nuke on a ship and get it close to a major port city, then detonate it. Total destruction without going through Customs.

  5. Criminal background checks often wrong on Flawed Online Dating Bill Being Pushed in New Jersey · · Score: 2, Interesting

Criminal background checks are often wrong if the person has had his case dismissed or expunged. There are so many data brokers who collect this information that its hard to change it. They pick up the initial arrest but then neglect to pick up whether the person had his case thrown out or expunged. Thats especially the case for DUII where people go through diversion and then have their record expunged. But they are never able to escape that history of DUII.

  6. Triple boot, Vista, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD on More Evidence That XP is Vista's Main Competitor · · Score: 1

Yes I'm a BSD person and I don't mind Vista at all, excepting how expensive it was. It runs fine on my Sony ViAO laptop, but this is a new laptop so it was probably designed for Vista in mind. The only problem I ever had with Vista was some blue screens caused by the USB subsystem, but MS has fixed that and all is well now. I have to admit though that I turn off all the eye candy and crap and it ends up looking llke Win2K. Maybe I have turned off all the bugs as well.

Actually if you go to Match.com for Thailand, there are plenty of women in their 30's and 40's looking for Westerners. And not all of them want to leave Thailand. So basically you are full of shit.

I still think that company needs to comply with the terms of the license)

Who gives a shit about pervs. Thai women are beautiful and exotic. I think the cutest in Asia. Hell the ones 40 years old look like they are 30. And they love older Western men. So I would say the major import is Western men looking for a woman >18 years old.

  17. Re:Where are the HiFi Speaker Wires? on 10 Great Snake-Oil Gadgets · · Score: 1

I have found a new type of speaker wire that is great, but not really better sounding. It is a flat adhesive tape with two hefty flat wires attached. Monster sells some I believe, but I picked mine up at Best Buy. Comes in 100ft rolls and is colored white. Supposed to take paint well. So you can hide the zillion cables in those Dolby systems. I stuck mine right to the walls. (I approximated the wires at 14AWG using tables of gauge vs. circumference in mils)
