For example, Ford almost certainly has an ongoing business relationship with MS, for their office PCs, maybe they use Outlook, etc. - they probably don't want to sour that by saying in public that their car-OS is crap.

In all seriousness, what I want the iPhone to do that Android does is be able to control the hardware from a quick access screen - ie, turn the wifi or bluetooth on and off quickly without having to use the main settings app.

evasi0n jailbreak + SBSettings would fit that bill. Even works from the lockscreen.

Current PPAU policy is for 15 years, so I'm guessing RMS would be OK with it?

Bugtraq and Full Disclosure mailing lists are a good read. Almost all new vulnerabilities are posted to one of these lists. In addition, many Linux distros post their security notices here (Ubuntu used to, but now only posts on their own list). The CERT list mentioned by previous commenters is also good, even if it can be a little slow at getting the news out. Microsoft, Apple and others report their security notices through this list.

All major web browsers have supported JSON.parse() for a long time; including IE8. Anyone who is still using eval() for parsing JSON should come out of their cave and get with the times. I doubt you would find any serious web developer who still uses eval(), except in "extreme" circumstances. There's just no real need for it in most applications.

I can only hope the new "Mobile Experience" actually works this time. Viewing slashdot on an iPhone is like playing Russian roulette. Only about 1 in 10 times will the site actually show up in the "Mobile" layout. Every other time, I'm stuck viewing slashdot in the "desktop" interface/layout on this tiny screen. Seriously, how hard can it be to detect a mobile browser and use the mobile-specific interface every time?
