I can't see the reason to play several games at the same time, nor the reason to play games in windowed mode.
That only makes sense if all games in the future would become flash based crap, and flash interfaced with DX10 in order to not be the slow garbage it is now (compared with almost everything else).
UHGG
OTOH, besides games and 3D editors, why do I need DirectX? Why do I need DirectX when editing text ?
I can see the ads now: Visual Studio 2008, now with DirectX 10-based syntax highlighting!
I don't think it is a good idea at all to mix Console and PC games.
Games that shine in one platform are usually not that good as ports in the others, and that doesn't mean that the game is bad.
For example: doing Deus Ex IW a platform game made it a total failure in the PC. I have it and it sucks compared to the original. Not being able to use the keyboard for entering passwords sucks. And console gamers want easy things, so the game is dumbed down and it makes it less interesting. And even today it has bad framerates.
Finally: I can't really see Starcraft 2 in a console.
For anything remotely resembling winners and losers, keep those two platforms separated.
"I don't know how it happened, but it amazes me that Spanish is a completely phonetic language." This happened.
In fact, it amazes me, that The Shift happened to your language. English used to be much more phonetic as well. Should have been the influence of those weird Frenchmen.
First there is a significant language barrier. To me it is a significant barrier only for lazy North Americans and their belief they are the centre of the world, miles/feet/inches vs metric, etc.
All the people I know from Europe speak at least two languages and in some cases it's five languages or more.
Languages pairs I have heard spoken: English/Gaelic, German/English, Russian/English, French/Spanish.
I play Halo in 1600x1200. It doesn't support AA (or I haven't found that option). I hate that I still see some rugged borders from time to time.
In Car simulations like rFactor I like it in 800x600 with all the AA I can get. It is an incredible different experience than playing it at a high res (much higher framerate), and it still looks amazing.
And in strategy games, f**k the framerate, I want both high res and AA.
As a programmer and student of mathematics, my personal philosophy on the issue is:
Nothing you have to reason that is obvious is ever obvious. As soon as you think that something is obvious, you will make and find mistakes in precisely this 'obvious' issues. In other words, I, you, and almost all people make mistakes in what we think is obvious.
Thinking that nothing is obvious makes you methodic and disciplined, and that's a good thing.
I agree with you. The writer was talking about graduating from Java/C# to more dynamic/powerful programming languages. I immediately though about Lisp.
I think any good programmer can easily tell which programmers are good/great/uber. In your case just try to see which ones ask the right questions, rather than focusing on what they assert.
It is for the average manager without any meaningful programming experience that is hard to tell. Probably hard for mediocre programmers too.
The difference is everybody knows that horoscopes are superstitious garbage. I've heard most people say: 'I know they are not true, but they are fun'.
In the other hand, the Majesty of Jesus Christ is superstitious garbage but must people behaves as if it was an universal truth.
Another point of view: I read a lot of science fiction. I KNOW it is fiction. It would make a huge difference in my life if I ever read a science ficion book and believe it is real.
If gaming in the Windows platform starts to suck...
The last reason a lot people have for sticking to Windows vanishes.
Now that sounds interesting.

Of course yes.
That's because it removes functionality of the tags.
They should be used to add keywords that can be used in a future to do 'smart' searches of the articles.
Instead they post opinions and frankly, that's what comments are for. Posting opinions in tags just corrupts the 'tagspace'.

Technically speaking you're right.
However overcompressed sounds without dynamic range is the stuff that sells CDs these days.

I'm still angry at AMD because of the discontinuation of processors for the socket 939.
>.<
"Es usted un Nerdo" comes to mind.
It has been proved that you learn faster and better when you have fun.
Some business already spend millions of dollars in training.
The whole problem is in the 'business should be mind-fucking serious' mindset.
Recently I bought a 8600GT, and it seems my Athlon 3200+ is a little underpowered for it.
As a result, I get almost the same framerate in 640x480 and in 1600x1200, that is, 60-85 FPS (200+ in older games with Vsync disabled).
In that case, I prefer to use the minimal AA (2X), and play at 1600x1200. Not quite the zero AA you use, but very close.

Totally agree.
I guess Paul Graham was really spot on when he said: 'hiring is obsolete'.
Any smart people should start a startup instead of getting a job. That's the only way to get the deserved recognition, and money.
I agree with you.
The writer was talking about graduating from Java/C# to more dynamic/powerful programming languages. I immediately though about Lisp.
Then he says Perl. All I could think was 'WTF?'

Because driving drunk is a crime while driving tired is not?
There's a chapter in the Carl Sagan's Cosmos book devoted to this issue.
The flying life forms depicted there are both logical and beautiful.
Here is the high quality video:

Well, apart from the good video quality, it is another Youtube ^^

Well you just gave me an idea.
Ads could lead to calls to a service.
So you hear and add for Omaha steaks and then a prompt says: 'Press 1 to order Omaha steaks, press 2 to make a normal call'.
I see some people ordering the steaks, or contacting the vendors in this form of advertising.
Icaza is not a poor misguided fool.

His actions are too precise and strategic for that to be the case. I actually believe he is in Microsoft payroll.

I somehow can't really see the difference between vengeance and 'comfort the victims'. The victims want vengeance.
It's more like: Vengeance is the justice of the uncivilised man, and justice is the vengeance of the civilised man.
