The basic idea is that you convert out of game cash into an ingame object. After that(since a recent change) all bets are off. There's no way to ever get the money out of the game again, it's a one way street.
However, there's no good reason to move them around unless you want to trade in them. And when you *do* decide to move them around, there's far better options than the one this specific player chose to do the moving around in.
I am *seriously* reminded of that somewhat famous heinlein quote about specialization and insects. And what makes it worse, is that even the specialization is apparently being ignored now, appears they want to "do" anything else but work/build/create/explore. Just some sort of existence with no real purpose, no drive or something, anyone but them needs to "do that" so they can...what?? Just live, contribute nothing back, expect to go their entire lives like that??
Congratulations, you just figured out that the majority of humans is basically stuck in:
Governments, at least those in countries with a democratic system, are beholden to the people to a lesser or greater extent, depending on just how badly said country has fucked over its electoral system.
The corp grown into a government doesn't give a shit about anything but the bottom line. If you think what governments are doing now is leading us down the slippery slope towards 1984, wait and see what happens when AOL-Time Warner-MG-Boeing Inc. kicks out a local dictator somewhere and starts running the show.
You can't expect people who make, sell, advertise, distribute games for a living to sit back and say "Oh, 90% of our users are pirating our game, I bet they wouldn't have bought the game anyway if they couldn't have gotten it for free," even if that were the obvious logical conclusion to come to (which it really isn't). They're going to say "Oh shit, 90% of our users are pirating our game, let's stop that and hope even a couple percent of them end up buying it and that will give us 10, 20, 30% greater sales," even if it's not necessarily possible to prevent a most of the piracy.
Or they could say: "hey, we spent 10k worth of manhours on a game that made 50k. nice job, let's do it again"
For the record, I bought Machinarium because I want to support indie games like this. But let's be honest here, there's friggin' Flash games that offer almost the same level of gameplay for absolutely nothing. If they don't want my money, fine by me, plenty of other places where I can spend it.
If you let business be you don't have a patent system. A patent system is a state-granted monopoly, the exact opposite of what the free market stands for.
If you let businesses be at some point you end up with a single one that is really big, has a lot of guns and men to carry them around and no loyalty whatsoever to the people of whichever country it chooses to own.
Making jokes the way Americans do about "pound me in the ass prison" indirectly condones the fact that such a prison system exists. Heck, how many tv shows have a cop quickly whispering into the ear of the just arrested (and hence not convicted eg innocent) perp about what's going to happen to him in jail?
If the government wants to save money, it can abandon unnecessary war, Trident, public-private partnerships and mid-level civil service bureaucracy. It can adjust the tax system not to favour offshoring, and stop bailing out bankers.
Not much has changed since "Yes, Minister" was broadcast, was it?;-)
Yeah, that will sure be sustainable. At the 1 in 70 households being able to have 1 car like this, I don't see this as an ultimate solution, but it might be a start at least.
The 70 households is just a typical journalist trick to make it comprehensible for average Joe. Once you start taking into account all the biogas that can be generated from others sorts of waste(livestock, excess farm produce, etc) it starts to add up.
And no, none of these solutions will solve our energy problems in a single go. But if we keep chopping off 2% here and 5% there, that will get us towards energy independance in the long run.
As a scientific minded Christian, I believe it may be some of both. The earth has been here much much longer than the propaganda conservative christians promote. I also believe the earth may have been a petri disk for biological experiments (so to speak) before we arrived. Additionally, I recognize intelligent design in our cosmos. There is SO much we cannot possibly understand regarding the true physics of the universe. All we can surmise are unprovable theories based upon observation. This is the way is it. Debate of the unknown is stupid and a waste of time. Just live in the day, one day at a time. Believe whatever makes you happy without infringing the rights and choices of others
As far as ET goes. I'll reserve judgment until I meet ET. Until then, ET sits on the same shelf as the tooth fairy and santa clause. Fakes are easy to produce and require no proof other than Photoshopped images and/or hearsay.
So ET, the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus all require proof, but God gets the benefit of the doubt? How do you reconcile that? This isn't meant as a flame against religion(a truly pointless endeavor) but as a genuine question.
For one thing, it would be interesting to see how long they keep on whipping before switching to a more "enlightened" method of government.
In any case, Civilization completely fails as a method of testing the abilities of a modern politician, since it refuses to let you spend money you don't actually have;-)
Sunstorm by Clarke / Baxter deals with the same issue, albeit in the scenario where they know a massive storm is coming 5 years ahead and take measures to prevent Earth from being turned into Mars.
Not a bad read, can't say how accurate the science is.
Really, selling online I've noticed that Europeans are terrible consumers. They don't listen well to our support staff, they immediately charge back if the service is not up to par, etc. etc. It's a hell dealing with Europeans.
If you're looking to make money, honestly, invest in US consumers first. Much easier to part them from their money and to convince them not to cancel/buy more.
So what you're saying is that we're less gullible and more demanding? Why thank you, that's really nice of you.
I'll let you get back to assraping ignorant 'merkins now;-)
Considering the US already has a law that states they can and will invade the Netherlands should any of their personnel be captured and held for trial in The Hague...
Now one could argue about whether or not Shrub falls under that definition, but considering that if he were to be put on trial it would be for his actions as Commander In Chief.
Just a hint for the 'merkins, whenever we're invaded we flood the country. Make sure you bring wading boots.
Maybe because a lot of those you quote-and-quote call innocent people actually prefer not to have the Taliban back in power? For fucks' sake, if an Afghan chooses to aid the Americans fight in in his own country against a group like the Taliban, who the hell are you to question that?
One man's freedom fighter is another man's collaborator...
Tell me, if your robbed and your stuff is traced back to a house with two occupants; one who the police are pretty sure did it, and the other who they don't think did it, but don't know. According to your logic they shouldn't be able to talk tot he second one. Are you really sure that's the argument you want to make?
Yes, the police would be allowed to talk to him...on public property and so long as he is cooperating. If they want to force the issue, get warrants to search the premises and for his arrest, evidence permitting.
It is not an out of game object.

EVE is rather harsh on idiots ;)
This is just spin to try and make MS look like the bad guys getting special treatment.

In other news: water is wet and the sky is blue. Film at 11.
Hell, I've talked to professional computer people in their earlier 20s, say 20-22, who think that 'kermit' is just a Muppet. That's truly sad.
I'm in my early 30's and I frankly don't see the point of knowing about a protocol that was outdated when I started going to highschool.
Then again, I suggest you stop driving cars until you have memorized every breed of horse and what tasks they are most suitable for.

while(not_dead) {
eat(food);
sleep(anywhere);
make_money();
spend_money(stuff);
fuck(anything);
}
Now the big question is...who are you to determine what is and is not a valuable use of one's time?
Governments, at least those in countries with a democratic system, are beholden to the people to a lesser or greater extent, depending on just how badly said country has fucked over its electoral system.

And how many would have chosen not to buy it if it had DRM? Is that number > 0? Probably.
I bought it partly because it had no DRM. So I'll see your probably and raise you a certainly :)

You're a fan of anticlimactic endings? :)

Nah, not really. It's just good old fashioned ignorance rearing its ugly head.
Guys like him have been around since Ug argued against trying to use fire for fear of angering the sun.

I don't exactly have a posse or anything but if I'm out walking around and I see a someone mugging someone else I'm going to step in.
Except in a lot of countries that isn't vigilantism, that's just being a decent human being.
Keeping track of the guy doing the mugging and beating his face in after he's released on bail...*that* is vigilantism.
Sunstorm by Clarke / Baxter deals with the same issue, albeit in the scenario where they know a massive storm is coming 5 years ahead and take measures to prevent Earth from being turned into Mars.
Not a bad read, can't say how accurate the science is.
I can only sleep under one roof at a time. Then I'd take the comic.
There's worse investments than owning a second house and renting it out for a steady stream of income ;-)
For more giggles, watch last monday's The Daily Show.
The interview largely focuses on fecal decapitation in space ;-)

Back in *my* day we used to talk about Natalie Portman, naked and petrified.
And something about hot grits.
And the worst part? Even goatse was less painful to look at than some of kdawson's work...
