    hes not exactly all the way off base since its possible for the registry to have bits referencing the MAC of any and all network cards (note the winXP/Vista DRM is partly keyed to your MAC(s)). Also its very possible to in software scramble the MAC of your network card (and or change it to some other nonrandom number)
    (wanna have a MAC of DE-AD-BE-EF-DE-AD ? it can be done)

    there are charts that show this but basically what has happened is
    1 the Baby bells got made
    2 a shell game worthy set of splits and mergers happened
    3 With the exception of Verizon all of the former Baby bells have remerged to form AT&T (why do you think the new att logo is a new version of the "deathstar"?)

    in the Closed > GPL device range you have a number of options
    1 fully closed deliberately locked
    2 closed but the protocol is guessable
    3 closed using a known protocol
    4 spec sheet available
    5 closed but workable ap given
    6 open but not hackable ap given
    7 GPL ap given
    I would like to run into somebody that has an Ximeta NDAS box that can code a GUI ap for the driver (i would also like to get a current and working driver but...)
    btw somebody needs to convince Ximeta that they can get what they want and GPL the linux driver

    this is also marketing but Novell does have that deal where they get access to certain bits of MS code
      (and supposedly MS coders are told not to do some stuff that will break the shared code)
    If I had a business that was part MS part Linux I would have a SLED farm just to make sure i could get

    if adobe had kept going with Atmo we could have had actual decent "worlds" going by now (and horror of horrors it was built to allow running your own server!!)

    the problem is VP ads trumpet the "free cd" thing and do not mention that you will be paying for a subscription for X cds in this case the "fine print" is written on a stone tablet in the middle of the african jungle in an obscure dialect of sanscrit. (you ltierally only get the details after you have your "free disc")

    okay first thing you are forgetting the BSD/ATT code split (and a rather nasty lawsuit) then att? sold the rights THAT THEY HAD IN THE FIRST PLACE to Novell Novell in turn sold the licensing business BUT NOT THE COPYRIGHTS to a company that if you follow the shell game is now called The Sco Group.

    Funny thing is they wrote the contract with a bail out clause if TSCOG went bankrupt (basically the money generated was considered to be Novells and merely held by TSCOG)

    Who here works in a cube farm and doesn't see on a daily basis a few people that could stand to do the exercise and would be better off generating power for the folks that are effective. It would work (and we would get healthier geeks to).

    1 everybody that registers to vote can also register as Party 1 Party 2 Party N (or none of the above) and are given a chip and reader
    2 about a week before an election the central poll computer is loaded with the public keys of all currently living registered voters
    3 the voting systems then present the options (in some federally mandated way) and then use the private key (from the chip) to encrypt the vote data
    4 the central computer then looks up the voter number (maybe ssn) and then attempts to decrypt the vote data given voter number X has public key Y
          a the vote decrypts and is then added in (and the public key is then removed since its no longer needed)
          b the vote does not decrypt
    5 the count is made with everybody that voted and the "votes" of the folks that registered but did not vote* (if None of the above "wins" all votes are rolled back)
    6 begin registering votes 4 days prior to the "election day" (so you could have voted anytime in 5 days)
    7* if any election does not have more than 51% actual votes roll back and retry

    and the problem is what happens if
    1 some worm/virus decides to begin scooping keys and they then get posted
    2 somebody uses a keygen and begins to post/broadcast lists of keys
    3 Microsoft then finds the listings and begins to block those keys
    4 your key is posted
    5 you get a new key and then 1 happens again (or 2)
    6 the rep decides that you are the one posting the key

    yes are they going to release the specs for the All-In-Wonder chips (i have a Radeon 7500 AIW and it works more or less but

    1 3-D sucks on it
    2 i can't get close captioning to work on it
    3 No capture
    4 i don't even bother trying to use the tv out-put

    and the easy way to get around this is have a setup written in english in the form of single license =$ group license =N*Y*$ (where N is the number of copies and Y is a discount factor rigged according to the number of copies say 0.9 for the first group and 0.25 for the 100,000 range). Server authentication is wrong if its more than once
    (i will give you a push on auth during updates)

    okay so try this one create a document in MSO2007 and save it to OOXML
    then open a copy of Open Office 2.2* and create the same document

    then give me stats on
    1 file sizes both bundle size and unzipped tree size
    2 actual readability of the payload file

    and as a bonus in the OOXML file try to find "legacy tags" only the program importing a legacy file should give a [redacted] about how a legacy file is hacked

    and besides Gregory House and Simon T are very close so i don't see a problem with grabbing a cell phone and puting it in a lead lined Ziplock(tm)

    Of course if hes really hacked off he might just use his cane to smash the phone (hope hes got plenty of Vicoden).

    In this case AT&T should have called the phone at about $500 and then said "sir i see you have an iPhone and you seem to be doing some traveling
    are you aware that some of your current settings seem to be incorrect and your current bill is getting a bit high..."

    easiest way to figure out when is to have the slashdotter firefox entension (shows a /. icon in your status bar when you have points)
    otherwise you will notice 2 things
    1 a message stating "You have N mod point(s) ..."
    2 after each posting you will have a drop down box with the mod options (make sure you hit the [moderate] button at the end of the thread)

    In the hospital ICU with Gregory House grouching his way through entire cases of flip pads to try and figure out whats wrong (oh and DR house is pissed off a bit and is getting low on Vicoden) But No TSCOG is not dead yet.

    Oh and the current status (see the Site Which Can Not Be Named for details) is
    1 TSCOG is trying to get a jury in Novell
    2 The IBM case may have been mooted
    3 BSF is down to using interns for filings (the reality checks started bouncing a while back)
    4 The PSJ rulings in IBM are still pending

    yes I have in my box a radeon 7500 aiw and the open driver works well but

    1 no Close captioning
    2 no stream capture (this didn't work well at all but..)
    3 the 3d performance sucks

    and what IP is actually left in the driver (heck mail the source to the Windows driver and a Spec to the X.org team)

    the problem is a NONZERO amount of torrent traffic is legit (licensed with one of the CC licenses) What i would propose is ISPs begin to put SLA language in their agreements with the following bits
    1 NO ZERO NADA filters all ports wide open
    2 X% of the time for 90% or better bandwidth
    3 NO CAPS
    i would offer a say 10% upcharge for each single and a 5% for 2 and 15% for all three

    3 require code be "signed off" by all authors as to any existing impairments (i think this is happening anyway)

    There was a filing in the IBM V TSCOG case if the judge agrees with IBM filing then TSCOG can fail to appeal the IBM case at the same time.
    the question was given the PSJ filings what is left in the TSCOG V IBM case (since the matter has overlap)

    IBM : Nothing left

    TSCOG: the Dog ate my homework
    i would expect a PSJ filing in the IBM case oh say friday at 05:00 EDT so whats the line on SCOX being delisted by next tuesday (i would bet on a STOP TRADE order by 03:00 on next monday)?
