I work as Loss Prevention in a Nashville area Wal-Mart. We've had problems here with them shoplifting. We had a door greeter stop one of them a few days ago. The "customer" had redeemed her Red Cross voucher and then went into the ladies clothing department. She stuffed her shirt full of bras and the door greeter stopped her on the way out.
Actually, many states now require you to have proof of U.S. citizenship before you can get a license. I moved to Tennessee and had to provide a social security card and a notarized birth certificate before I could even take a test here. They DO offer a certificate for driving, but it is not a valid ID for anything except driving. You don't have to be a citizen to get this.
Did any of you actually read the article? Or are you just so used to talkin out of your ass that it comes natural. The article states that the tags will be on cases and pallets. There might also be some merchandise on the floor that has tags, as some items are shipped as "cases of 1." If you've ever looked in the back of a Wal-Mart truck, you'll see that stuff like printers, TVs, VCRs, etc. all come exactly like you see them on the floor. They aren't in cases. They are just plain boxes like you see on the shelves. The RFID readers will also only be at the back door of the store. Why are you people worried about your condoms being linked to you? The only linking will be of the case of condoms linked to the store. Any item you buy that is a "Case of 1" will have the RFID in the packaging and will be trashed whenever you throw the box away. This technology is merely an attempt to reduce shrink through mispicks and internal theft. Each Walmart store loses a lot of money through mispicks. For example, what if a case of popcorn comes in that costs $20 for the case, yet the shipping label on the case says, "Big Screen TV $300." The store was charged for the $300 TV when in actuality they only got a $20 case of popcorn. This is a drastic example, but if the stockers don't read the shipping labels (which they usually don't), no one will ever notice that the store lost $280 because of a mispick. This will show up as shrink during the yearly inventory.
Just because you send out a large number of emails doesn't mean you are a spammer. Say someone has a mailing list that is completely ligit. They just happen to be sending out 5000 emails a day. With your idea, their account would be disabled. That would be denying use to someone who isn't breaking the law.
Seriously, for $1 or $2 per song I'd probably spend a fortune. I totally believe that the artists (and the record companies --- they do pay for the promotion and all the associated crap even though they are pure evil) deserve to be paid.
no they dont... the artists pay for everything. it's included in the expense for recording an album. it's kinda like a loan. the record company puts so much money into an artist and promotion and crap. that's considered a red balance for the artist. the red balance is paid off before the artist makes a cent.
I ran a story on my site back in July about this. Basically a guy got pissed about some spam and hacked into a spammer's computer. He posted some newd pics. Check out the article here.
actually, the record companies own the specific recordings of the song. they are paid performance royalties for them. ie, ascap, bmi, and sesac. anything besides the actual recording usually belongs to the publisher, writer, or artist.
You wouldn't really be hurting the record label with that. The record label holds a percentage of the artists royalties to pay for returns. ie, the artist isn't paid for any music that is returned. The artist would be the one hurting from this. The record label would make the same amount of money and just take it out of the artist's pocket. The usual percentage they hold is around 10-20%.
?!?!?!? This makes no sense. Doesn't everyone realize that it's much more secure to use different passwords on every thing you do? So in other words, if someone cracks one of your password (assuming you only have one) then they have access to all of your data. This doesn't seem like a very safe idea to me.
Most of you linux zealots probably don't realize that just the Release version isn't much to look forward too. I'll wait until it's 4.4 Stable before I upgrade any of my boxes. Also, for you FreeBSD newbies, go read the faq for cvsup and save yourself some cds. You can cvsup to the stable tree, then rebuild your system and your kernel. Unless your system is extremely slow, this is the best way to upgrade. On my old 56k connection, cvsup would typically take about 7-9 hours. buildworld on a 200Mhz system with 32MB of ram will take a while. I forgot exactly how long that takes. A few hours I'm sure. On a 550Mhz athlon with 128MB, I can buildworld in about an hour or two and installworld in about 30 minutes. 8)
last time i checked, none of the bsds supported any usb dsl modems. my isp (bellsouth) sent me a free alcatel usb dsl modem. i just went out and bought my own efficient networks speedstream and it works 100x better in fbsd than that usb modem worked in windows. =)
when i was in school, this was all they'd let us have. i'm almost 20 now. the apples were good enough to learn on, but you really couldn't do much else with them. i remember sitting there, waiting my turn to play oregon trail. =) hell, my latin teacher was still makin us use the apple 2se computers in 1998 and 1999 to do some stupid latin word program. we had 1 real computer lab in high school by then, but it had windows 3.1. imho, we should still be sendin apple 2se computers to at least elementary schools. they might have sucked, but they were actually great learning tools.
netbsd was on dream cast way b4 linux was. i remember readin about netbsd gettin on it a while back. then i saw some post about linux gettin on it and i was like "yeah... netbsd's been doin that a while."
i base my purchase of games on the amount of time i spend playing the warez versions. =-)
... man builds 70 foot tower in his yard because some dick built a 60 foot tower between him and his ISPs transmitter.

what about microprose? they use "micro" before the name of their brand of software.
dtdns.com is even better... i notice the changes within about 5 minutes. $20 a year per domain.
